A question for Catholics. Pt 3?

Let me start by saying that this is not an invitation for attack Catholic, I know that the mention of religion in any YA is provocative and usually leads to a long line of nuts and foam on ALLSORTS ranting.
Please respond to this only if you have an eloquent, non-abusive response.
  The question is …
After the death of Pope John Paul II, Pope (in my opinion) was thrown into chaos ..
Is Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger), a setback for Catholicism?
Can a man who takes half a billion Catholics around the world really has been a member of the Hitler youth?
If your credentials are such a spiritual, not as a child rejected the intrinsic evil?
The Lord moves in mysterious ways, I know. I am well versed in the Old Testament.
God often takes the candidates to do their job. Isaac (through his mother) stole the birthright to his brother, Moses was raised in Pharaoh's house, David was an adulterer and murderer .. We are all born sinners.
I come to call the Pope, just ask your opinion.
Praise be to God and God alone ..
  Thanks in advance sensible answers.

  1. Faye says:

    Just to clarify some things:
      1) He was one of Pope John Paul II of close friends and a good and loyal Catholic Cardinal (as it had been for many years)
      2) Pope Benedict XVI was forced into the Hitler Youth Group joing - sometimes in Germany is also its citizens, especially those who believed in Hitler. If you have not joined, his family was suspicious and possibly sent to a prison or a concentration camp as other citizens who openly opposed Hitler.
      3) Do not reject evil in itself but only as a child, what could be done? His parents were openly opposed Hitler, but other friends and family and not informing anyone of "suspicious activities". His own brother with Down syndrome was shot in front of him, and if he had not joined the Nazi threat in their lives too.
      - There have been other great Catholic saints who led a life of sin, as St. Augustine said a sign of many sins committed by most of his life without regret later. St. Paul openly rejected Christ and killed many Christians, but later became one of the most popular saints and martyrs of the Catholic Church.
      * You're right, we are all born sinners and God works in mysterious ways. BTW - that Jacob stole his brother (Easu's) birth, and not Isaac.

  2. Farsight (The anti-Chris) says:

I would say no, he is not a step backwards. People like least, but for some reason, the conversion is up.
And while he was a member of the Hitler Youth, membership was required of all young Germans. He had no choice in the matter. In fact, he did reject the inherent evil - the abandonment of the organization as soon as he could.

  3. imacatho says:

As a teenager and young man, Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) was drafted into the Hitler Youth and the German Nazi army as any other non-Jewish German men. He was not given an option.
The Pope is not and never has been a Nazi. Unfortunately that was born and raised in a country ruled by the Nazi party.
Every recruit in the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German army was not a Nazi.
Thank God that you and I live in a world very different than the Pope did in 1930 and Germany 1940. Or do we?
      With love in Christ.

  4. Sldgman says:

First, I do not think the Pope was thrown into chaos by the death of John Paul II.
I do not think the election of Benedict XVI was a step back to Catholicism.
If you read the story of Benedict XVI, was never a supporter of Nazism.

  5. gismoII says:

You are blowing our way Hitler matter of proportion. To the extent that one rejects evil later and, finally, life is all that matters. St. Augustine is practiced paganism in its infancy, even young people living with a lover and a child. He loved the life of sin in his youth. Later in life, he repented to the point of becoming a priest and a bishop and doctor of the church.

  6. Chris S says:

—- After the death of Pope John Paul II, Pope (in my opinion) was thrown into chaos ..
      Why?
      — Is Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger), a setback for Catholicism?
Again why? For the church there is only one direction, which is led by the Holy Spirit. He might be a step backwards for the PC brigade, but then the way of Christ is contrary to this world.

  7. Shinigami (FAC) weeaboo says:

Perhaps God is trying to tell us to love one another.
God challenges us like that, and it is totally possible
We are not to challenge God
Do not you think that God takes care of everything?
Do not give power to the leaders of your country?
      Does it all.
      God is great.

  8. H says:

Saul who became Paul was a prosecutor in this "new religion" and Christianity was still present when Stephen was stoned to death. So what is so difficult to answer your question? A question for Catholics, Part 3, you say? Keep 'em coming, the Catholic Church has the answer.

  9. J.P. says:

1.) All the children his age are obliged to join. There was no objection clause.
2.) So you're saying that nobody can ever leave behind his past? I do not know, I like to think a little that I can learn from my mistakes and be a better person.

  10. Denis C says:

My father was very strict 5 ordered my brothers to go to a Catholic school,
That does not answer your question.

  11. nobody says:

I think it was German, but apparently all the young people had to be at that time.

  12. Markus says:

    ¡Viva el Papa!

  13. James G says:

The Pope is only a man and like most human lives with errors. I think it would be a little hard to see most of the people of their youth just by itself. Also, as a gay Catholic, I must say that this pope has said the hardest word about homosexuality. But even with all that, I think this man is a great leader of the Church. His appearance in the U.S. unified for most Catholics. His encounter with victims of sexual abuse was genuine. I saw a photo of her encounter with adolescents in a detention center. He visited those who are terminally ill. He has spoken out against the Islamic-based terrorism. It is important that the Pope is a man of peace and oppose war, and this makes the Pope.

  14. Catholic Mythbuster says:

I do not think that our current Pope is a step backwards. I think it is actually very intelligent. He said that Latin vs. vernacular Mass is now merely a choice. He has several degrees. He has studied and understands the other religions and other sects of Christianity. It is also one of the most prolific popes in history.
Yes, he was a member of the Hitler youth, but not by choice. Many do not know, but our current Pope has a younger brother who suffers from Down Syndrome. It was not just Jews that Hitler was the persecution. Also homosexuals, the mentally ill, Gypsies, and, yes, Catholics! (Ironic, considering that Hitler was the son of a Jewish mother, and therefore a Jew himself under Jewish law.) The mentally ill category includes, unfortunately, children with Down Syndrome.
Nazis came in one day, the young Joseph Ratzinger was shot, the brother in front of him and then threatened to do the same with the rest of his family if he did not come together. Thus, while it rejected the Nazi beliefs and ideals, he was forced to it.

  15. himan275 says:

although I'm not religious about anything, Paul was the third model of peace actually did something to stop the fighting. the rest of the pope sat on his azzes including Benedict.
that you do look bad. who once turned down the French PM to attend to some things because he is married to a man. this doesn't help the whole "end prejudice" that you preach.
and, finally, I will say that catholocism was a step backwards for catholocism

  16. 48 Crash says:

Catholics tend to follow the Pope, who is a bad move. No man deserves that much power.
