Catholics and atheists, I have two questions for you?

To save me some points, I have decided to put two questions in one.
  1) My friend (who is Catholic) told me that it was technically a Catholic, but I'm an atheist-mind. What was he trying to say?
  Please note:
  • I was raised Catholic and passed through baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, and all proceedings before the age of 8 years.
  • From the age of 12 years, I considered myself an atheist.
My friend was trying to say that just because I was raised Catholic and have gone through some sacraments, I am always a Catholic?
  2) What exactly is an "atheist-agnostic?" I have a vague idea of what it means, but I just want to make sure.
  Thanks in advance for responding!

  1. mrs_cath says:

You were baptized Catholic, therefore, you will die a Catholic and will be judged by God as one.

  2. Wolfebla says:

Unless you have formally renounced their membership in the Catholic Church, which would be considered a valid (non-practicing) Catholic. If you want your name removed from the register, send a letter to that effect to the parish where they were baptized and confirmed.
And the term "agnostic-atheist" sounds like a kind of two Beastie talking heads from both mouths. I would think that he is certain there is no God (atheism), or uncertain of its existence (agnostic.) I'm not sure how you can keep the two views at once.

  3. IJR says:

Technically, once a Catholic always a Catholic. They welcome you back with open arms if they desire to return. IJR was baptized but raised RUSSIAN ORTHODOX BYZANTINE CATHOLIC. IJR asked a Russian Orthodox priest, is still considering whether IJR orthodox, and was told yes, but not practicing, and IJR celebrated again with a mere declaration of Orthodox believers. A Byzantine Preist IJR said basically the same, but said it was a Cathoic IJR IJR because he made his First Communion as a Catholic and therefore was welcomed back with open arms with a statement of the Catholic faith and creates a valid. IJR said Thanks for the info, but no, thanks.
An agnostic in the sense of the word, it is impossible to tell / show time God exists or not. AGNOSTIC-an atheist is the belief that God does not exist while a theist-AGNOSTIC leaves the possibility open. Both views are valid.

    1) Your friend is wrong. Sounds like you have a "once saved always saved" mentality.
      2) "agnostic-atheist" is redundant. Atheism is the lack of belief in a deity. Agnosticism is the insistence that we do not know, who is also a lack of belief. Hence, agnostics are atheists who insist we know why a lack of belief.

  5. perttier says:

    1. If you consider yourself an atheist, it's probably an atheist. It may be a Catholic in official books, even if you do not believe in God, but they really do not make you a Catholic.
      2. An agnostic atheist is someone who is not sure whether god (s) exists or not, but leans a bit closer to God (s) for not existing.

  6. Pangloss- Ancora Imparo says:

The Catholic Church views to anyone who has been baptized as a Catholic. If you are no longer a practicing Catholic, it is called lapsed Catholic.
Atheist-agnostic means you believe that there is no God but do not claim definitive knowledge of this. Many atheists fall into this category.

  7. Amber says:

    1) That sounds like what you are saying, but I do not think that's true at all. I was raised Methodist, but I'm certainly not now.
      2) You are one or the other. Agnostics say they do not know, atheists say there is no god.

  8. BOBA FETT says:

It's baloney. The term agnostic-atheist is redundant since all agnostics are a subset of atheists. A person can be a believer or not. If you're not sure, I do not think and therefore an atheist.

  9. hmmmm says:

No you are not a Christian, you will and have decided to deny Christ (God) and His Church. You are an atheist. Is a theist who believes in God. Agnostic-I do not know if there is one God.

  10. CMT says:

some say that once you have raised a Catholic always a Catholic but I do not believe that, until its

      Tell that to your friend.

  12. Darwin says:

Only one can be if you want to be Catholic. Do not let your friend or any label in the church.
An agnostic is an Atheist who does not want to offend.

<<Catholics and Atheists, I have two questions for you? To save me some points, I have decided to put two questions in one.>>
You will notice better question is individual. Shipping questions, firstly on the collection of responses, and no points.
<<1) My friend (who is Catholic) told me that it was technically a Catholic, but I'm an atheist-mind. What was he trying to say?>>
Yet Catholic unbringing I had, of course, that has cast off their faith, so they no longer Catholic.
<<Please note: • I was raised Catholic and passed through baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, and all proceedings before the age of 8 years. • From the age of 12 years, I considered myself an atheist.       Sacraments leave an indelible mark on his soul. You check with you to take in life after cases which may or may not be responsible to live or not live up to what those brands represent.
Let me put it to you this way. Turning back to the Catholic Church, if you decide to get rid of atheism, it is relatively easy which has already received the Sacraments of Initiation.
<<2) What exactly is an "atheist-agnostic?" I have a vague idea of what it means, but I just want to make sure.>>
Agnosticism and atheism are ideal anti-God. Specifically atheism professed disbelief in a higher power. Agnosticism does not endorse any belief at all. Therefore, can not really be such thing as an "agnostic atheist" or vice versa.
