  1. Røwan says:

    But here, John says:
"Then he said to the disciple, 'Here is your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. "- John 19:27
If she had other children (natural), why have one in his disciple?
John 19:25 - The following verses show that James and Joseph are Jesus' brothers and not their cousins: Mary, the wife of Cleophas is the sister of the Virgin Mary.
Matt. 27:61, 28:1 - including Matthew refers to Mary, the wife of Cleophas as "the other Mary."
Matt. 27:56, Mark 15:47 - Mary the wife of Cleophas is the mother of James and Joseph.
The problem with translations, and with the way we used to refer to others, seems to have been lost. It is possible that Mary had other children, but may * not * mean that it is a reality *

  2. moondogg says:

The word "children" in this verse is the Hebrew "nightmare."
Here is the site of the entry:
"a child (as a builder of the family), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition …"
That is followed by about 20 different terms used to translate this word.
The equivalent Greek word says, "apparently a primary word, a" son "(sometimes of animals), widely used for immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship …"

There are many arguments for and with respect to the mother of Jesus having brothers and sisters. First, the virginity of Mary is clearly annouced in the Scriptures when they describe the birth of Jesus. One of the more controversial teachings of the Catholic Church concerning the perpetual virginity of Mary. This doctrine maintains that Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus and biblical references suggesting that Jesus had brothers are actually references to his half brothers or cousins (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 499-510).
The Bible does not come out and said that Mary remained a virgin throughout her life, and therefore had no other children. In Greek, the language that the New Testament was originally written in the word brother is "Adelphe and sister is" Adelphe. This word is used in different contexts in the New Testament: the children of the same parents (Matthew 1:2, 14:3), descendants of the fathers (Acts 7:23, 26, Heb. 7:5), Jews as a whole (Acts 3:17, 22). To use an example from the Old Testament, Abraham and Lot were called "brothers", but had an uncle-nephew relationship. Therefore, the concept of brother and sister and can not relate to the cousins in the Bible. But just because the word means brother or cousin fellow Jews in one place, not necessarily have the same meaning in all other places in the Bible.
Some theologians point to the Messianic Plan in Psalm 69 to reinforce his argument that Jesus had brothers. Psalm 69:8 (NIV) says, "I [the Messiah] I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother of the children," but again this may simply refer to the nation of Israel.
Others point to John 19:26-27 (NIV) which says: "When Jesus [the cross], saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, told his mother," Dear Women, behold your son, "and the disciple," Here is your mother. "From that moment the disciple took her to his home, either as proof that the" beloved disciple "of Mary was the mother or the child that the word" mother "was used in losely writing. Both scenarios would be a mistake.
One of the strongest support of the biblical text that Mary was a perpetual virgin is that Matthew 1:25 says, "But he [Joseph] had no union with her [Mary] until she gave birth to a son. .. "This text can not answer the question of whether Jesus had brothers or sisters, but it seems to say Joseph and Mary knew each other in the biblical sense.
In conclusion, the answer to whether Mary had other children must be left open to more information from God.
      Godspeed.

  4. Inigo Montoya says:

I'm not Catholic, but in reality the Bible says Jesus had brothers that Mary had no children. Which could easily be half brothers "from a previous marriage of Joseph. I have brothers who are not related to my mother.
More than the verse does not refer to Jesus David.

  5. Daver says:

Psalm 69:8 does not refer to Mary, obviously.
Perpetual virginity of Mary is confirmed in the following Scriptures:
Exodus 13:2,12 - Jesus, who is sometimes called the "first-born son of Mary. But "first born" is a common Jewish expression meaning the first child to open the womb. It has nothing to do with children's mother.
Exodus 34:20 - under the Mosaic Law, the "first-born son had to be sanctified. "First born" status does not require a "second" born.
Ezekiel. 44:2 - Ezekiel prophesies that no one passing through the gateway through which the Lord entered the world. This is a prophecy of the perpetual virginity of Mary. Mary remained a virgin before, during and after the birth of Jesus.
Mark 6:3 - Jesus was always referred to as the "son of Mary, not" a "son of Mary. Also "brothers" in theory could have been children of Joseph who was a previous marriage dissolved by death. However, it is likely, perhaps most true, that Joseph was a virgin, as were Jesus and Mary. As such, it embodies the true Holy Family, totally devoted to God.
Luke 1:31,34 - the angel tells Mary that "will" design (using the future tense). Mary told her: "How is it possible?" Mary's response demonstrates that she had taken a vow of virginity for life because they have no intention of having sex with a man. If Mary had no such vow of lifelong virginity, her question would make no sense at all (so we can assume he knew how to conceive a child). She was a virgin consecrated as the church was an acceptable custom of the time.
Luke 2:41-51 - in a quest to find Jesus, and Him in the temple, there is never any mention of other siblings.
John 7:3-4, Mark 3:21 - we see that the young "brothers" were advising Jesus. But this would have been very disrespectful to devout Jews if they were biological brothers of Jesus.
John 19:26-27 - Jesus would have been unthinkable to commit the care of his mother to a friend if he had siblings.
Mark 6:3 - James and Joseph are called "brothers" of Jesus. Therefore, James and Joseph are Jesus' cousins.
Matt. 10:3 - also called James the son of Alphaeus. " This does not disprove that James is the son of Cleophas. The name may be for Alpheus Cleophas Aramaic or Greek name was James and Saul (Paul), and Mary remarried a man named Alphaeus.

  6. freebird says:

Mary's virginity is only important at the time of the birth of Jesus. She wasn't impregnated by a man, but by the Holy Spirit. This shows that pregnancy is a pregnancy virgin. Jesus had no biological father land, but Joseph was Jesus' stepfather. Therefore, through their virginity sure that Jesus was the son of God.

  7. NONAME says:

Only naive people really believe that Mary was a virgin throughout her entire life.
I do not think that really was a virgin before getting preggers with Jesus. Mary was a teenager. Children and adolescents in the day were like teenage girls now. Except that on the day of Mary, to have sex outside of marriage has been and remains punishable by death.
Therefore, he made some story about some people call up his holy spirit. This is his story and is sticking to it.
But after he was born, I have serious doubts José María had not arrived at a busy time. Joe is still a human man with a human to human needs and desires. And for people to think otherwise, well, that's just STUPID.

  8. JESUS IS LOVE says:

I am not Catholic, but this is just crazy. She was a virgin when she conceived Jesus. She remained a virgin until after their birth. She had other children after Jesus. It is also in the New Testament. I do not think they think he died a virgin.

  9. sparki77 says:

David wrote the psalm, and he had siblings. It is not a prophecy about Christ. It is David who was a "type" of Christ, and it is expected, not prophesy.

  13. Cheekote says:

    Mark 6
"Where did this man get these things?" he asked. "What is this wisdom that has been given, that still does miracles! 3Isn't this the carpenter? Is not this Mary's son and brother of James, Joseph, [a] Judas and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us? "And they took offense to it.
Surely most of the Catholics know that Mark was with Jesus. (Sarcasm)

  14. Bad Apple says:

This is why cousins should not have sex with cousins.
