    I am not a Christian, but I know that when I was to get the forgiveness he had to repent. And I think you have to repent to confess. Otherwise, be in denial about what he had done, and can not repent. Now, as to whether that meant that God or a priest would be a different matter.

      Yes, of course, but in reality I do not know just what to believe. It is a statement of fact, not belief, that if one gives a good confession, and the priest absolves them in the name of Christ, and then one of the sins are forgiven. This does not mean, however, that one is freed from sin or the punishment due to sins are removed. What is eliminated is the eternal punishment and return to communion with God.

    yes. because it is one of the 7 sacraments. the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There is this verse from the Bible where it says "confess your sins to each other," and "all who are joined here on earth will be bound in heaven."
