If I Go To A Catholic Church Am I Allowed To Worship Just God And Jesus Christ Rather Than Pray To Mary?

I’m a Christian and I only pray to GOD and his only begotten son JESUS CHRIST who died and paid for my sins. But Catholics spend church time singing to Mary. It’ll violate christianity if I sing to Mary. What am I supposed to do if I go to a catholic church since catholics say think they’re christians?

    Come and see, Jenny.
The Catholic Mass is ONLY about the Lord. There are no prayers to Mary. She’s barely even mentioned.
Catholics do NOT spend church time singing to Mary…sometimes we sing about Mary if it’s a particular day of remembrance about her, like the day we remember that the angel told her she would be carrying the Christ Child, but the context is ALWAYS about Christ coming to earth.
Come and see, Jenny. We won’t try to convert you. You can sit in the back and take notes. Take notes about what the songs are about. Take notes about how much scripture we read. Take notes about what the priest says. Take notes about the Gospel message that is very clearly stated during the Liturgy of the Eucharist. And do, please, count how many times you hear the name “Mary.”
Come on, Jenny. You can go see for yourself and report the TRUTH right here. Go to Mass this very Sunday (I’m sure there is a Mass held at a time that still allows you to go to your regular church, too.). Bring a friend if you’re scared. Bring your notebook.
Come and see…come and see for yourself…

First off we Catholics ARE Christians and have been for two thousand years, secondly there is NO obligation to pray to mary. We ask Mary and the saints to pray for us, we Pray Directly and Worship God alone. Yes you would be very welcome at the Church everyone is welcome Catholic stands for Universal.
We do pray Direct to Jesus, why do you ask for prayers or say prayers for family and friends (interceding on their or your behalf)?. It’s called INTERCESSION we ask Mary and Saints to pray for us just like you would ask a family or friend to pray for you. We pray DIRECTLY to God and Worship God alone not Saints or Mary!.
And it is Bibilical here you have some referance,Thus, in Psalm 103 we pray, “Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!” (Ps. 103:20–21). And in the opening verses of Psalms 148 we pray, “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!”
Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In the book of Revelation, John sees that “the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.
Angels do the same thing: “[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God” (Rev. 8:3–4).
Catholics and Orthodox Worship God and God alone
Mary is not dead ’she is no longer in this World’ but she is in Heaven. I will give you one easy example that is even in the KJV. When Elijah and Moses appeared to Jesus were they dead?, NO!. We do pray directly and Worship God but we ask the Saints and Mary for intercession ‘ For them to pray for us’.

If you worship anyone other than God you are an adolater and have no business being in a Catholic Church. You can’t violate Christianity by doing what Catholics do because Catholicism is original, pure and complete Christianity. You may violate Protestantism but that isn’t the same as violating Christianity.

  4. Marysia says:

well apparently you’ve never been to a Catholic mass because Mary is mentioned only ONCE in the mass and it’s in the Nicene Creed. If the Gospel is about Mary well that’s Scripture and i’m not going to tell you that may not happen. If you want to ensure that the scriptures are not about Mary you can look them up prior to going to mass. It’s published so that in attending mass for 3 years you will have read the entire bible! In the month of May there will often be a song to Mary during the mass in which we show our thankfulness to God for giving us Mary as such a wonderful example, gracious even Jesus listened to her even though it wasn’t the Time. However, even then we don’t pray TO MARY BUT ONLY JESUS & GOD IN THE SACRIFICE OF THE MASS.
i don’t know where you got the misconception about the Mass but it just goes to show - sometimes people don’t share the truth with us and when we then speak of it AS a truth - we often learn a valuable lesson. These next 40 days in particular before Easter are very much a solemn time reflecting on Christ in our lives.

  5. Tracker says:

Pray to God through Jesus. No one is forcing you to pray to anyone else in the Catholic church. Anyone can attend, but usually you have to adhere to Catholicism to receive communion or other rituals that only those “confirmed” can participate in.

Catholics don’t pray to Mary. They ask her to pray to God for them.

so go to a different church.

  16. Wolfebla says:

Jenny, the Catholic Church doesn’t require you to ask Mary for her intercession or sing or do anything that violates your overly-scrupulous conscience. Nothing about singing to Mary will violate your largely-false notions of Christianity, but you’re free to do as you please.
And you will find (if you can be bothered to listen to what you’re being told, that is), that Catholics worship only God and Jesus. We don’t worship Mary, but we do honor and respect her for the part she played in bringing our Savior into this world.
And there is no say or think about our Christianity. We *are* Christians, whether people like you, CJ in whatever incarnation he’s picked now, and other Catholic haters like it or not.
    Edit:
Please re-read your Bible. It does not say that Christ is our only Intercessor, or at least my Bibles don’t, and I have many translations. What it does say is that Jesus is our only Mediator. . .and there is a HUGE difference between the two things.
Christ is our only mediator or “lawyer,” if you will, in the matter of salvation. That’s because He is the One who paid our sin debt on the Cross, and He is the only One Who can tell the Father, “I’ve taken care of what this person owes, so they are no longer guilty.” He mediates the dispute between God whose justice must be satisfied and us sinners who cannot pay our debt on our own, and He brings the entire matter to a satisfactory conclusion for both parties.
An intercessor is one who prays for another person and asks God to help them. Think in terms of a family friend who knows the Boss and can put in a good word for someone who is applying for a job. Any believer can be an intercessor — your mom, a friend at church, or even a total stranger. But there can be only one Mediator, and that is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Incidentally, if no one can say “Jesus Christ is Lord” except through the Holy Spirit (and I have repeatedly acknowledged on this Forum that Jesus is my Lord and Savior), wouldn’t that make me — le gasp — a Christian?

  17. Aleria says:

First of all, we worship ONLY God and Jesus Christ. We do ask for intercessions by the Saints and Mary and the Angels, but we do not worship them.
Let me see…A Catholic Mass has about 5 or 6 songs (at the most) sung. It takes up about 15 minutes of our Mass. One of those songs *might* be about Mary during a normal Mass. There are about 3 days out of the entire year that we give more attention to Mary than normally, but it is NEVER over God.
That leaves 45 minutes left for the Mass:
–We come in, we pray to God and for the forgiveness of our sins.
–We listen to the readings (one Old Testament reading, one New Testament reading and a Gospel reading)
–We sing Psalms (this is between the first and second reading and the second and Gospel reading)
    –A homily is given
    –We pray more, TO GOD.
–We the go into the consecration
–We kneel in prayer TO GOD.
–We stand and recite the Lord’s Prayer
–We kneel in prayer once more
    –We receive the Eucharist
    –We pray some more
–We say a closing prayer and close with another song about God’s goodness and we leave.
I’ve been Catholic for 11 years. The only time we “spend church time singing to Mary” is during Christmas and it’s about Christ’s birth and thus Mary is part of the song, the Assumption of Mary (usually only one or two songs) and the Immaculate Conception.
    That’s it.
We are Christians. A Christian is someone who follows Jesus Christ and believes He is Lord and Savior, which we do.
You will not violate Christianity if you sing about Mary. You are confusing prayer and song with worship. To pray means “to ask” and nothing more. All worship is prayer, but not all prayer is worship. Singing songs is not worship either.
If we’re so horrible and obviously not Christian, then don’t go to a Catholic Mass.

  18. rebecca_ says:

Stop going to a Catholic church, and go to a church that follows the teaching of God’s Word, rather than the teaching of men.
They pray to idols and teach that there is an “in-between” place after death called purgatory. These teachings are in contradiction to the Word of God.
    Leviticus 19:4
Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.
    Leviticus 26:1
Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.
    Revelation 20:13
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
There is no such thing as purgatory, according to the Word of God.

  19. danelius says:

not only are you not obligated to pray through Mary, the Bible says you must ONLY pray through Jesus to the Father
    he is the only intermediary
could a catholic please clarify why you don’t adhere to this command?
edit* very well, that revelation scripture mentions prayers of saints, but it doesn’t say we should pray through them, but in that case, that directly contradicts the command found earlier, and there is no evidence to suggest that it is a replacement command - either it contradicts itself, or your interpretation is wrong

  20. Happily Married to my Prince! says:

Point out what the Bible says about praying ONLY to God. It doesn’t say anything about praying to Mary. Of course you are not going to change their minds but they also can’t force you to worship Mary. I would start going to a Christian Church.
