How can people say that praying to a dead person, when the Bible tells us that the dead know nothing. They are dead.

The only thing that Catholics believe about Mary is that she is the Mother of Jesus, and that was considered in the sky. We pray to her not as a deity, but as part of the whole Church Community. We believe that those who have and are still in the sky outside the Christian community, and can talk to God. We believe in prayer to God directly, but also the prayer to the saints for us.
Let me put it this way, you can go their whole life praying to a saint (Mary or otherwise) and being a good Catholic and go to heaven.
      God bless

The only thing you have to pray to God himself. Why go through Mary, when God is there.

Look at it this way. Anything else was, Jesus was a Jew. A good Jewish boy. You can not go wrong with a good Jewish boy being nice to his mother.
We love his mother. For his obedience to God who gave us Christ, and He gave us salvation.
Through the Beloved Apostle (John), He gave us as our mother while he was dying on the cross.
Could you lend us your hand as if the gift of Christ was not their own.
Trust me. You do not get brownie points for refusing God!

I do not think there is something heretical to believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary is as close as the holy saint.
We share the view of Catholics in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief that all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When it dies and goes to heaven, do not let this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
As part of this family, you can ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you can also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to the saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
Ask others to pray for you if your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

      With love in Christ.

Definition of warning that you are using on this issue?
Remember to indicate the rights or obligations to b: to express warning or disapproval to especially in a soft, serious, or solicitous manner
2: to give serious advice or encouragement to friends
Because I do not know any Catholics who do any of the foregoing. I think that Catholics hold Mary in high esteem because it was the mother of Jesus. Your Bible says different?
