The Twelve Apostles were the first Catholic Bishops?

"After having called his twelve disciples, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast out, and to heal all manner of sickness and disease" (Matthew 10:1)
The Apostles had the power to sanctify, when Christ instructed them: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19)
The Apostles had the power to forgive sin, when Christ told them: "Whose sins you forgive, you are forgiven them" (John 20:23)
The Apostles had the power to govern when Christ said: "He who hears you hears me, and I reject that rejects me and rejects me rejects what sent" (Luke 10:16). And: "What you bind on earth shall be bound also in heaven" (Matthew 18:18).
The Apostles had power to offer sacrifice, where the Last Supper of Christ, after the institution of the Eucharist, ordered "Do this in remembrance of me" (1 Cor. 11:24-25).

  1. imacatho says:

Yes, Matthias (Judas Iscariot is not), then added more as the church grew.
In the same way, and an unbroken line of succession, the current living 5054 Bishops are the Apostles of today.http: / / http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop
      With love in Christ.

    No.
First, the bishops were 7 early Christian history, it does not fit with 12 apostles.
James the Just (also called Saint James the brother of our Lord) was the Bishop of Jerusalem, but it is not an apostle.
Paul was an Apostle, but never a bishop, all the same with Peter and other apostles.
The apostles of the history of his authority disappeared, taking with them.

  3. Kinkly says:

Judas killed himself before the birth of church in the spirit of Pentecost, when he came to the disciples. Peter became the first pope of the Christian and the other 10 disciples 2 Mary (Magdalene and Jesus' mother) who were the first bishops. at this time all Christians were united by what they usually use words such as Catholic

Jude 1:4 For certain men have crept in unobserved, which long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God in lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord * Jesus Christ.
TTS 3:9 But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, contentions and strivings about law, because they are unprofitable and useless.
TTS 3:10 Reject a divisive man after the first and second warning,
in 6:7 And when you pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen [do]. For they think that will be heard for their many words.

    — So Paul was not a disciple, who was a Pharisee and Judas was a disciple - to enable him to take a punch just sticks around!

  6. Kim says:

You're right. While I know many people will tell you that is wrong. If the Apostles were the first Catholic bishops, in spite of the new Catholic church was not called at that exact moment.

  7. elle says:

not have ignored the memory of those who quoted.and verse of the apostles are not bishops.the term bishop / supervisor comes much later in the NT.
Matthew 10 goes on to say: 8Heal the sick raise the dead, clean up those leprosy, [b] drive out demons. Freely you received, freely give. 9Do along take no gold or silver or copper on the belt; 10take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or staff, the worker will maintain its value.
11 "whatever town or village you enter, the search for some worthy person there and stay in your home until you go. 12As to enter the house, give it your greeting. 13If the home deserves, let your peace is based on that, when not, let your peace return to you. 14If anyone does not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that house or town. 15i tell the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of the trial to that city. 16i send you as sheep among wolves. Therefore, be so cunning as serpents and as innocent as doves.
Catholic bishop is not living well.
Also, the first non-Catholic Christians, who actually obeyed the Bible unlike the Catholics who pick and choose.
