Yep! that sums up the Catholic church for me.
Whether turning a blind eye to political scandals or child molesters hiding in the Vatican … they have a lot to answer for.

    Awards and honors
In 1994 Mugabe was awarded an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath by Queen Elizabeth II. This entitles you to use the letters KCB postnominal but not to use the title "Sir." In the United Kingdom, the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee called for the removal of this honor in 2003, but has not yet been taken. [117]
It also has several honorary degrees and doctorates from various international universities, awarded in the 1980s.
However, in June 2007, became the first international figure ever to be stripped of an honorary degree by a British university, when the University of Edinburgh withdrew the degree awarded in 1984. [118] [119] On June 12, 2008, the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees voted to revoke the law degree awarded Mugabe in 1986. This is the first time that an honorary degree, University of Massachusetts was revoked. [120]
It is not really a man, but why he was awarded this honor and has not yet been revoked.
Raised and educated as a Roman Catholic Mr Mugabe became a committed Marxist during the guerrilla war against the Rhodesian Front government of Ian Smith.
And as the Catholic Church. I am disappointed that not more pro-active in publicly criticize these people and their regimes. What happens behind the scenes, I do not know.

The pope is in no position to criticize anyone ………….. with its previous history.
The Vatican has a history of one of the copies of despots, or make a "blind eye".
      Edit.
Thundershowers, where did you get the idea that the despot has been knighted?
