VOICES OF CHRISTMAS Allerdale.
Allerdale is a scenic area of Cumbria that sits by the Solway coast to the west, bordering the Lake District National Park to the east and between the districts of Eden to the north and south Copeland. Is the diversity and beauty is reflected in its people who are so varied and diverse as the landscape.
"Voices of Christmas Allerdale", was conceived by Brian Melville who, as head of music at St. Joseph's school in Workington for 34 years, organized the "Christmas Concert" which he directed until his retirement in 2004.
The "Christmas Concert" in San Jose over the years, like many other schools around the world, became a special event during the year for the department of music and at times involved up to 140 students singing or playing Christmas songs arranged especially for the event. Some of these agreements over the years became such a "success" with school children and parents to submit to the darkness would have been an unfortunate choice.

After retiring from the mainstream of education in 2004, Brian established Solway Music, an independent music support services for young people in Allerdale schools. That have already forged a working partnership with loose logs, which then showed that a CD of arrangements of Christmas can become a reality. The next step was to secure the cooperation of a number of schools in Allerdale each came and was happy to participate in the project that was starting to take shape. The logistics of gathering around 50-60 voices of the entire district is a problem that would have been difficult and costly to overcome, given that all schools are located many miles away from each other. The solution was to work with each school in their own locations and meet each one in the recording studio. In fact, we had a choir of six Allerdale schools never met. This included teaching, testing and registration site at each school. The recordings were mixed and mastered in Actas X study.
