What is the difference between Catholics and Protestants?
That is a big question especially since their are dozens of different views on this Protestant. There are two types of difference in reality, the philosophical depth that is essential and which are most visible to the naked eye, the statues and stuff.
The fundamental difference is the question of authority. Catholics believe that Jesus established His Church on earth visible under the leadership of the apostles, especially Peter, who describes Jesus as their Rock, and the invisible guidance of the Holy Spirit. Since the Church is described as so constituted the body of Christ must be inextricably linked to Him and thus be guided by him and who have full authority to teach and guide the faithful without error. The Church, therefore, is the main source of authority for Catholics, as it is a living link with the living God. Protestants, on the other hand I think that the only source of authority is the written word of God, the Bible. Because the Bible is inspired by God and is without error, then the only source of knowledge about God and His doctrines. Every believer guided by the Holy Spirit should read the Bible and interpret it in light of the Holy Spirits guidance.
From a Catholic POV weaknesses of the Protestant position that, firstly, the content of the Bible is a product of the Church's exercise of authority. Ie, in the ancient world there were dozens of Christian gospels and letters that could have been included in the Bible, but it was only the Church and the Church which decided which books and which was kept on the sidelines. Must believe that the Protestant Church was infallibly guided by God to decide the content of the page of the Bible, but then abandoned by him. Secondly, if each person is free to interpret the Bible as it looks good, then you end up with the confusion of Babel of hundreds of different Protestant groups each declaring that his interpretation of Scripture is true.
Other differences are more evident, for example, to ask the Catholic Christians in heaven, especially Mary, to add their prayers to those of the Christians on earth. This is not the worship of Mary or the Saints, but one believes that the unity of the Church is not broken by death as Protestants, but I think it is continuing because of the beating death of Christ. Catholic churches then the images of saints to help us remember that the congregation in the Church is more than the people we see. Also, the central act of Catholic worship is the Eucharist, Holy Communion, Catholics believe that to be really and truly the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ himself in the guise of bread and wine. Protestants on the other hand tend to think that it is only bread and wine and communion is a memorial of Jesus instead of a unification of believers to His sacrifice on Calvary. Also because Jesus promised to Peter that I would have to the keys of the heavens and to bind the loss of Catholics believe the Church has the authority to reduce the amount of time that people need to go through indulgences in purgatory. This is not at all about deciding who does or does not go to heaven, only God decides that it is those who are saved by putting in Christ are free of temporal punishment for sins already forgiven in eternity. Indulgences can not be bought and are useless unless there is a commitment to refrain from sin and practice a good deed, like reading a certain portion of Scripture every day, all Catholics are advised to do for the Church.
There are other differences, but to keep going.

Martin Luther "protested" that some things in the (Catholic) church is not right, so they broke away and founded what is now called the "Protestant churches."
Main differences are the Protestant rejection of the authority of the Pope (Technically, the bishop of Rome) and the absolute authority of Scripture (the Bible).
In recent times there has been a growing body of many of the Protestant Churches and the Roman Catholic Church, in part, in recognition of the founder's wish that all his followers be one. This does not mean that all differences are resolved, but recognizes that the duty of loving God, it is much more important to discuss differences.
The church kept the first and only church, the blessing of Christ and led by the popes that Peter was the first. Protestant protested the church's beliefs and the functioning of the Roman Church, so the name of Protestants. It should be noted, however, that most Protestants were quick to say that not protesting anything, they are simply practicing Christianity as it was before the Roman took over.
The main difference is that Catholics believe that the revelation of Scripture + Tradition = God. They believe that the pope is the Vicor of Christ and the successor of Peter (Gospel). We also believe in venerating the saints and Mary, (who is the Holy Church canonizes.) And ask them to pray with and for them. They believe that the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Eucharist. They believe that Communion is the Body and Blood of Jesus.
We believe that the Protestant tradition is not part of the Revelation. Protestants are just Scripture (the Bible is to believe everything they need). There are many denominations, manly due to the interpretation of Scripture. Protestants only pray and talk with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They have 66 books of the Bible (Catholics have 7).
I hope this is what your looking for!
Communion in the Catholic faith is literally eating Jesus' flesh and drink his blood, and symbolically in Protestant …. Catholics do not believe in a holy trinity quadinity like, believe that the pope is god on earth, hes a nazi …. BTW Catholics believe in purgatory in which you can pay your way to prove you can go to Heaven, Protestants no .. .. Catholics believe that in order to get what they need in the sky of the sacraments (see if they do not know what they are), Catholics Protestants …. I do not think the man who can stop going to heaven by excommunication, no Protestant … Catholicism is primarily about religion, after Protestant usually lean towards the belief that Jesus is the savior salvation =
Catholics are to believe in the delusion of God, and Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Pope as the representative of two of them to humans. Protestants also believe in the same hallucination God and Jesus Christ as his Son, but do not accept the Pope as the representative of God. Otherwise, we all believe in the same hallucination, and the same book in which all these things are written, not much difference between them. The intensity of belief in the hallucination depends on the amount of DMT [?] Chemicals in their blood.
Interestingly more than those of today rebelled when Protestants …. in most cases. Protestants, but in general tend to stick to the tradition handed down and try to stick only to the first texts barrel. Catholics have more to read, a top leader, and a more complex structure.
You have to go back in the history of the era of Martin Luther. Basically, the Catholic priests (the Church) was the sale of indulgences to all who had enough money. A pardon is an indulgence that allows a person to avoid getting into heaven and hell .. so basically, for a bribe, you can buy your way to heaven. So Martin Luther tacked a list of arguments and disagreements at the door of a church. This started the Protestant Reformation. Ultimately led to Henry XIII (eighth), the division of the church and the formation of the Church of England … Ann Bolin was, in fact, directly involved with the Lutherans. Anyway, this division of the Christian world into two groups, Catholics and Protestants. Protestants disavowed the supremacy of the Church Cathlolic, who insisted that was the only true representation of Christ church (because Jesus said to Peter that would be the stone upon which religion is founded). Therefore, only a "descendant" of Peter could truly represent the gospel of Christ. This, of course, is rejected by the Protestant … at a time, could cost him his life … even a few years ago, in Ireland.
Basically, Catholics believe they are a real church, which is represented by the only true representative of Christ, the Pope. Therefore, Catholics have the Pope, while Protestants have their doctrines and dogmas and their self-appointed leaders who profess to speak the true gospel (without the Pope or the Catholic Church). Mainly, the big difference is that, by Luther, the Bible, which was rather ignored by Catholics, became the basis for Protestantism. As you can see, more or less remained that way until today. Many Catholics have not read the Bible … while Protestants seem to think that if you do not read the Bible, then you are condemned to hell because they do not know what Christ said.
It is a tangled mess, and in my opinion, the arguments are superficial and meaningless. You can believe what you want, and God knows what is in yourheart, no matter what religion or sect who believe in.
The problem with this issue is the scope. We are asking to compare a single Christian sect (Roman Catholic), with several hundred others at the same time (Protestants). It's like asking, "What is the difference between oranges and other fruits?"
Even the excellent response stevhep assumed beliefs that not all Protestants are Protestants. For example, several large Protestant sects allow intercessory prayer of the saints, and some even canonize its own saints in a manner very similar to the Roman Catholic Church.
Now, there are very few * beliefs that Roman Catholics are, as far as I know, there is also a Protestant sect.
1) Pope - Catholics believe the Pope to be the leader of the land of all Christians, and more specifically the Roman Catholic Church
2) Immaculate Conception - Roman Catholics believe that Mary was born without original sin. Only Jesus, born of all people, was similar, without original sin.
3) Assumption of Mary - Roman Catholics believe that Mary was assumed into heaven at the time of his death.
That's it. As far as I know, almost all the other Roman Catholic belief is also held at least one of the main Protestant sect. Certainly, not all Protestants are based on "sola scriptura" or "faith alone."

1st (Cath) is original and that Christ lives. Protest come since 1500, apart from catheterization by Martin Luther, look at this in the history of the church.
Before the 2nd answer is correct. has no objection things. however, we have to walk, until God says is right. perhaps all is well. OK?
No answer to the second exception "stevhep" and recommends that, by ignoring most of the other crap here. That would be almost all the other answers.
Try theology section in your library or Wikipedia.
There is only one true faith. The others are full of heresies.
>>> What is the difference between Catholics and Protestants?
There is no difference at all,
because both are infidels.
