What is the main difference between Catholics and Protestants?
well this may sound very quiet, and considering that I have an A in religious studies anyway lol, but what is the difference between Catholics and Protestants? I know there is much of the Christian faith, but what the values are different?
regards
- What is the difference between the three main branches of Christianity?
- What is the difference between Catholics and Protestants?
- What are the main differences between Catholics and Protestants?
- What is the main difference between Catholics and other denominations?
- What is the difference between Catholics and Christians, Protestants, Lutherans, LDS, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.?

Got an "A" in religious studies and did not even know the difference between Catholicism and evangelical Christianity?
Try this to get started:
1 Sola Scriptura ( "Scripture alone")
2 Sola fide ( "by faith alone")
3 Sola gratia ( "by grace alone")
4 or Solo Christo Solus Christus ( "Christ alone" or "through Christ alone")
5 Soli Deo Gloria ( "Glory to God alone")
Catholicism is a religion of works for salvation. Its doctrines are heresies as reflected in the light of Scripture. Most of all, believe that a man (the Pope) is infallible and that the church (Catholic church) is the true interpreter of the mysteries of God's Word. Before the Protestant Reformation, a man (or woman) was not allowed to have a Bible, much less a reading of his own building.
There are several very important differences between Catholics and Protestants. While there have been some attempts in recent years to find a common ground between the two groups, the fact is that differences remain and are as important today as they were at the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. Following is a brief summary of some of the most important differences.
One of the first major differences between Catholicism and Protestantism is the issue of the sufficiency and authority of Scripture. Protestants believe the Bible alone is the only source of special revelation of God to humanity, and as such it teaches us everything for our salvation from sin. Protestants view the Bible as the standard by which all Christian behavior must be measured. This belief is commonly referred to as "Sola Scriptura" and is one of the "Five Solas" (Latin for to be alone, "alone") that came out of the Protestant Reformation as summaries of some of the important differences between Catholics and Protestants .
This is the main difference between Catholics and Protestants:
Catholics believe that Mary deserves some credit for being the mother of Jesus. We also honor several people who have been martyred for their faith (they believe in the Holy).
While Protestants believe that only Jesus should be recognized and that there is no need to honor those who founded Christianity.
The two groups have had problems with respect to which the dogma is right and whose is wrong. Fortunately, things are changing for the two groups, and today there is much more tolerance for others of what used to be.
I would say that could be reduced to a big difference. The Roman Catholic Church becomes Pope (tradition) as the final authority on issues, while most Protestants turn to the Scriptures as the final authority.
While Roman Catholics do not rule out completely the Scripture that they differ from it in a number of questions ….. and once again it is directly following the conclusion of the equality of the traditions to Scripture (Protestants reject that idea, most of the subscription of Sola Scriptura). At the end of all our differences are as a result.
I grew not only as a Protestant, but as a Hater of reviler and Catholics. Of course, information on why we should hate was never offered. I am anti-Catholic arguments now - especially in light of Scripture - and I find that pathetic beyond belief. But the point is: the main difference that we are Protestants, and Cathl'ics them. "
Archbishop Sheen eruditely put more, but it was from Illinois and the entire world knows that there is nothing to do except study eruditeness Illinois.
Here is a difference in my maddening. I was having a discussion about the scriptures with my mother, and she replied to one of my points, "Well, anyone can interpret Scripture in the sense of everything we want to say."
And that, in my opinion, sums up the attitude Protestant. If you do not like a book, which performs its own way. If this does not intend to offend the writing does not exist, and vilify those who bring up. Shout down if necessary. If you still do not like to have your family and friends of the church and start his own church. If you do not call it faith, you will not have to answer to anyone except the pastor. And if you do not like what he says, the offspring of fire!
Sorry. I can not live like this more.
Catholic Church / Orthodox churches founded by Christ.Non Catholic / Orthodox Churches started by men.
Yes, Catholicism and Protestantism are part of Christendom. They have different beliefs and practices. Protestants believe that we are saved by Grace alone. Catholics believe that in order to be saved we must accept the blood of Christ, participate in the sacraments, attend Mass, etc.. Protestants seem to place more emphasis on the Bible that we Catholics, and Catholics put more emphasis on the Eucharist and the rituals that make the Protestants. In addition, both tend to worship differently. For example, it may seem strange and rude to the Catholics, when people scream and shout and dance all over the place in the church, but to many Protestants it is not strange at all, and is encouraged.
But all in all, both Protestants and Catholics to love Christ, so it's all good.
The Roman Catholic Church, more correctly called and the Catholic Church (Latin: Ecclesia Catholica) is the world's largest Christian Church, which represents more than half of all Christians and one sixth of the population of the world. It consists of a Western church (the latin rite) and twenty-two Eastern Catholic churches, all in 2782 is divided. The Church hopes that the pope, now Benedict XVI, as its highest earthly authority in matters of faith, morals and church governance. The community consists of an ordained ministry and lay members of either group may belong to organized religious communities.
The Catholic Church defines its mission of spreading the message of Jesus Christ, administering the sacraments and the exercise of charity. That operates social programs and institutions throughout the world, including schools, universities, hospitals, missions and shelters, as well as organizations such as Catholic Relief Services, Caritas Internationalis and Catholic Charities that help the poor families, the elderly and the sick.
The Church and many historians believe it is the continuation, through apostolic succession of the Christian community founded by Jesus in his consecration of Saint Peter. Has defined its doctrines through various ecumenical councils, following the example of the first Apostles in the Council of Jerusalem. On the basis of promises that Jesus gave to his apostles, is believed to be guided by the Holy Spirit and so protected from falling into doctrinal error. Catholic beliefs are based on the Bible and the traditions are passed from the time of the Apostles, which are interpreted by an education authority. These beliefs are summarized in the Nicene Creed and formally described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Católico formal worship, known as the liturgy, the Church is governed by the authority. The Eucharist, one of seven Church sacraments and a key part of every Catholic Mass, is the center of Catholic worship.
With a history that spans nearly two thousand years, the Church is one of the oldest in the world, and has played a prominent role in the history of Western civilization since at least the 4th century.
Protestantism refers to the forms of Christian faith and practice that originated in the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Protestant doctrine, also known in continental European traditions as Evangelical doctrine, in opposition to the Catholic religion. In general, argues that Scripture (rather than tradition or ecclesiastic interpretation of Scripture) is the only source of revealed truth.
A "Protestant", by definition, is a protest … in this case is that the protests against the authority of the Catholic Church. It is a strange thing for me when I hear someone say that they are a Protestant sect of Christianity because ANY is not an orthodox Catholic or Protestant. Therefore, you never know what they mean. On the other hand, if someone says they are Catholic, I know exactly what they mean.
The Catholic Church is the One True Church started by Jesus. Protestants' protest to this or that teaching and went to start his own church, and so on and so forth and so on …
Catholics have the Eucharist. Protestants abandoned the Mass
Throughout his life to Christ sent his followers to do their job. Just before leaving this world, which gave special authority to the apostles, to put God's forgiveness to all people present, and the whole Christian world accepted.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of his Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor. The Pope is the Vicar of Christ. The representative of Christ here on earth.
The word "catholic" meaning "whole world" or "universal", as in the phrase of the creed of the Catholic church: "one, holy, catholic and apostolic church."
The Catholic Church is the church established by Jesus Christ in 33AD and gave to Peter to lead and name. The Catholic Church has the fullness of Jesus Catholic Church Christ. The also compiled the Bible in the 4th century. The Protestant church was with Martin Luther in the 16th century. Until then, all Christians were Catholic or Orthodox. The Protestant church was founded by Martin Luther and now there are over 38,000 Protestant denominations.
THO including both Catholics and Protestants believe in and worship the same God, the Protestant churches have a more diluted version of Christ. Protestant churches recognize only 2 of the 7 sacraments that Jesus gave to his church.
Iam a convert to the Catholic Church. I was raised Protestant and could never find the truth of Jesus that is preached in Protestant churches. In the Catholic Church I have found the fullness of Christ and His love for me
"Protestant" is a generic term for a wide variety of often mutually contradictory belief systems, however, consider themselves Christians, but are distinct from the Roman, Eastern Orthodox and Coptic churches. The term "Catholic" (GK fm "katholikos" = "full" or "complete") in its Christian sense is first found in a letter around 106 AD, written by Ignatius of Antioch to Smyrna and their use to which the whole body of Christian believers who shared their belief that Jesus existed as a physical being whose suffering and death are real rather than symbolic, a view shared by many Christians of the day and which was considered to be heretical by Ignacio. Although it is commonly understood today relate only to the Church of Rome more accurately the word refers to all the churches that accept and hold to the apostolic tradition that includes some of the major Protestant religions such as Anglican, Episcopals, or Methodists, Evangelicals, but excludes the Baptists, the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses.
"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
Only by grace, faith in Christ in the saving work and not for any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works . http:/ / http://www. vatican.va / roman_curia / pontificated …

With love in Christ.
One of the biggest differences between us is the Eucharist. We believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist. Protestants do not. They take communion only in the symbolism.
A huge difference, but that is the principal.
Well, I was not satisfied by any of the answers here, so I will provide.
First, I assume that by "Catholic" means "Catholic" - that is almost always the case here in the West.
Secondly, I would point out that your question is like asking, "What is the main difference between an orange and other fruit?" Well, * no * difference is unique. Color? What about apricots and mandarins? Size? No way? No Taste? Well, yes - but how do you describe the difference?
SO, we are asking here is a difference between a Christian sect, compared to literally hundreds of others, each with its own set of religious beliefs and practices themselves.
SO, here I go ….
We can define any Protestant Christian sect that meets any of the following conditions
a) splintered from the Roman Catholic Church (CR) after the year 1500
b) fragmentation of one of the sects described by a)
c) that originated after 1500, but regardless of any other Christian sect
Thus, the main difference seen by this definition is that the RCC has existed since before 1500.
The most significant difference: the Pope in Rome is the earthly leader of the RCC. Only the RCC is directed by the Roman pontiff.
Now, almost everyone else ** ** the doctrine taught by the RCC (which has nothing to do with the pope) * is also taught at least one of the largest Protestant sect. Here are some that, as far as I know, are not offered by any Protestant sect.
1) immaculate conception - RCC teaches that Mary was born without original sin, and the only other person ever * was born without original sin was Jesus
2) Assumption of Mary - RCC teaches that Mary was assumed into heaven at the time of his death
Seriously - that's all. Not all Protestant sects believe in "sola scriptura". Not all Protestant sects refute the apostolic succession. Etc etc, almost all claimed by the Protestant belief previous answers are not common to all Protestant sects.

That is the Protestant Church
1517, the year that Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses against indulgences on the door of Castle Church in Wittenburg, is commonly seen as the year that began the Protestant Reformation. However, it is difficult to say exactly when there was a real division because there are a number of Protestant groups and a series of negotiations that occur at this time.
Luther himself remained a Catholic for some years and was originally intended to reform. That was a real division gradually, although there were a number of key events such as the Diet of Worms in 1521, where the vote was against Luther and later he was "kidnapped" and hidden for their own protection. Before this bull had burned a 10 December 1520, which indicates the strength of your conviction about their own work (Toro has called for the burning of Luther's works). After he left the Wartburg Castle, where he had hidden, continued the work of reforming the church, particularly in worship.
There are also stories Protestant consecutive passes at the moment and also a little later with other Protestant groups such as the participation of these people Zwingli and Calvin. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_year_did_ …
There are many differences. For example, Catholics have a pope to lead us. Jesus gave us the first Pope when he said to Peter: "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. What bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. "(Matthew 16:17-19)
The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he called Peter, the rock of his Church. He gave the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole herd.
Protestants believe in Sola Scriptura (the Bible alone). Sola Scriptura has not since. Nowhere in the Bible is not to say that the Bible is the sole authority. As a matter of fact it says that the Church has divine authority to rule (Matthew 16:13-20 and Luke 10:16). The Bible also tells us that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth (Tim. 3:15). Finally, the Bible clearly says that not everything is recorded in the Bible (John 21:25) So how can the Bible the sole authority when it clearly states that it is not?
Catholics honor (not worship) Mary. We honor God because his honor above all creatures, making her the mother of His Son. In honor of Mary, we are following the example of God himself. Mary special privileges were given to her by God, not man.
Also Catholics confess sins to a priest as Jesus intended us to do. John 20:21-23 says, "(Jesus) said to them again," Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. " And when he said this, He breathed on them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Who forgives sins are forgiven, whose sins you retain are retained. "
Jesus gives the disciples the authority to forgive and not forgive. This means that a priest must hear the sins in order to know whether to forgive or to keep them connected. Activities confess directly to God in our prayers, but also confess through the ministry of the priest, since it is what God requires, as the Scripture teaches. If you read 2 Corinthians 5:17-20, you will see that St. Paul explains how the apostles are ambassadors of Christ, the work of reconciliation. This means that they share in the ministry of Christ and to forgive sins in His name. James 5:13-16 tells us that the sins of the sick are forgiven in the sacrament of the anointing. Specifies that the presbyters (priests) should be called. They obviously had an ordinary Christians can not have the power to forgive sins. So, back to what Jesus said: "As the Father has sent me, so I send you." The apostles are to continue Christ's mission. The mission of forgiving sins. Jesus knows our human nature and offers sacramental confession to give us gifts: the humility, the certainty of forgiveness, and spiritual direction to help overcome self-deception and rationalization in terms of sin.
These are just a few differences. I hope I have been helpful.
God bless,
Stanbo
The Catholic church is not biblical. It is false doctrine!
Here is the truth about the Catholic church …
When I looked seminar was why Catholicism did not work - why all the years as an altar-boy, all the rosaries, the novenas, Masses, Stations of the Cross, and so never made a difference.
The answer was in his gospel message. All religions in the world can be defined by the Gospel message - what should a person do to get to heaven?
The Bible is clear: "It is by grace you have been saved through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, lest any man should boast." [Ephesians 2:8-9] I came to Christ by faith and faith in Christ alone, without any work - everything was what Jesus did. Just repent of my sin, that Jesus claimed to be believed in, and then submitted my life to His control.
Now I've discovered about the Catholic Church is having a different gospel than the Bible. I went to eight years of Catholic school and I knew what it was, but the study at the seminar explained the source of their beliefs.
The Catholic Gospel says that "you get to heaven by the grace of God through Jesus' death on the cross" (so far so good - it sounds right). But the way to receive this grace is by faith and faith alone (a gift as Ephesians 2:8-9 says), not the way a person receives the grace to be saved (according to Catholics) is "to do certain things (works), as:
1. Go to mass = grace
2. Say Catholic prayers (Our Fathers, Hail Mary, rosaries, etc.) = grace
3. Receive the communion of grace =
4. Be baptized (infant) = grace
5. = Go to the confession of grace
6. Help others = grace
7. Making ninth grace =
8. Making the Stations of the Cross = grace
and on and on it goes ….. everything we do brings a bit of grace …………….
Then, according to the Catholic Church, "If you die in a state of grace, then you will eventually go to heaven —! You have to stop in Purgatory for an indefinite period of time (millions of years?). Purgatory is a place like hell (torment and agony), but the difference is to go some day - "once you have paid for their sins." (Not yet on the cross Christ said, just before his death "It is Finished!" He understands that the price for sin has been paid!)
However, there is a problem that a Catholic may lose all their accumulated grace for committing a mortal sin! A mortal sin is a sin premeditated basically one of the Ten Commandments, like killing someone, committing adultery, theft, using the name of the Lord in vain, the lack of Mass on Sundays, etc. Any of these sins with a heart makes caused all the accumulated voluntary grace to disappear. Therefore if we died with no grace, and then you went to Hell without stopping.
However, if you could rush to get a Catholic priest and his forgiveness of sins, then picked up a little more grace again, and were back on the road to heaven - at least until the next mortal sin dumped again all his grace.
Basically, the Catholic gospel is a "construction" of the Gospel is, "is what Jesus did on the Cross PLUS is my work for me to heaven." But the true Gospel of the Bible, salvation is by faith and trust in Jesus alone - does not allow or accept works - which are based only on what Jesus did.
At the seminar I learned that Catholic doctrine was based on the Council of Trent (1545-1563), 19 ecumenical council of the Roman Catholic Church, which met in response to the Protestant Reformation starting the reform of the church and its dogmas define essential). At this Council, it came up with a lot of "royalties" (ecclesiastical law), including one that says, "If someone believes that salvation is by faith and faith alone, then they are anathema ( cast at
Hell). " The Catholic church in the heart of his doctrine denies salvation by faith and faith in Christ alone. However, the Bible says, "it is by grace you have been saved through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, lest any man should boast. "[Ephesians 2:8-9]
Everything I have said about the Catholic Church is available at any of its Catholic Catechisms, summarizing his teachings.
The Catholic Church is a false religion, and anyone who dies believing and trusting in their false gospel is eternally condemned to hell.
The differences are
1. Holy Orders (bishop of Rome along with the rest of the bishops of the Church and priests.)
2. Transubstantiation (change of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ our Lord and God)
3. Sacrament of Reconciliation
Catholic is the true faith founded by Christ. There are so many different Protestant, so they founded their own? Quite a difference.
The protest was initiated by Henry VIII the church in the Catholic church does not allow divorce.
Main difference is that
Purely because Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife who was not allowed in the Catholic religion. The only other reason I can think of is that it is less extreme waayyyyy.
The Christian doctrine of each individual church varies.
The first is the "mother and the second is the" daughter "…..
Bible alone, faith alone
No batteries or go bying birds turn purple
I just arrived and not in people with
Catholics believe the Pope is the head of the church and all the brothers who are priests of God. Why the Pope can excommunicate people, and priests are called fathers.
Catholics also believe that Mary is the wife of God and that it is "holy." Nuns also assume that the wives of God, and they call Mother is Mother Teressa.
Also, the chain of the divinity of God -> Pain -> Priests -> common people, in other words, to get to God for Catholics, they would have to undergo all over them first.
Protestants believe that the Pope is not the head of the church, and that priests are not the brothers of God. And not everyone is a brother of Christ is the reason the pastors are also referred to as brothers.
Protestants also believe that God has a personal relationship with every one of us, and that all can receive salvation by accepting Christ into your heart and declare their belief in him.
Protestants do not believe in Mary as the holy mother, either, rather than believe that God is three parts, the Son, the Father and the Holy Ghost (Spirit).
Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal torment in hell (Galatians 1:6-9).
It is clear from the Book of Acts in the Bible that Catholics did not even exist in the days of the event. Those in the Book of Acts are the early Christians believed and what is called a fundamentalist doctrine today. Anyone can read the Book of Acts and see for themselves. Catholicism had existed during the time of Acts, the early Christians were completely rejected Catholicism.
Christians here also that the "pope" the Antichrist, and also totally rejects Catholicism, long before Martin Luther was even born:
c. 1310
Dante Alighieri
c. 1331
Michael of Cesena
c. 1345

c. 1350

c. 1379

R. Wimbledon
c. 1390
John provided
c. 1393
Walter Gross
c. 1412

c. 1497

So not only is it wrong to say that "Catholics were the first Christians," but this list blows away from the Catholic claim that "there are no other churches in the Catholic church, until Martin Luther."
I had always kept away from the faithful Catholics in worship, knowing Catholicism can not save anyone.
Catholicism can not save. Just believing in Jesus alone for salvation, is what saves.
Salvation is a free gift that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, 1 John 5:13).
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and reach heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell is by believing in faith alone that Jesus is God, died for our sins on the cross as full payment for all our sins, then Jesus was resurrected from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). And I think this will be in heaven, no matter what!
Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. Thank you for eternal life! "You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die.
Catholicism to Protestantism. The Protestant Reformation was the sect of Christianity in what we call "Protestant." The first churches separated from the Roman Catholic Church, therefore, that "the protesters." They really have no difference between them.
