What is your definition of a heretic?

I would be interested to know people from different Christian denominations: Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Reformed.

Historically, a "heretic" was a label used to demonize anyone who agrees with the established religion of the time said was the latest "truth" with respect to everything, even the so-called "fact" that the sun revolved around a dirt floor.

  3. Hoosier Daddy says:

A heretic is a member or former member of a religion that believes and teaches the doctrines that are contrary to religion. An apostate is a former member of a religion. A heterodox is someone whose religious beliefs are different from a specific religion, but within the same family about faith "(ie, Christianity as a whole, including Rome, Eastern Orthodox, Protestantism, etc.). There are, Indeed, other conditions for the most distant, even in beliefs, but beyond this response.
Therefore, technically, can not be a heretic Protestant, for example, as I've never been a Protestant. As a Christian who has never been a Protestant, I am unorthodox from Protestantism, it is not a heretic.

  4. Atticus Finch says:

Before starting, make sure that I know, I do not mean to bash any religion, only to tell the definition of a heretic as I know. A heretic is someone who denies the doctrines of the faith they claim to belong. For example: Martin Luther was a heretic. He denied some of the Catholic teachings, but not all of them. Henry VIII and the Arians were heretics, too. Even Muslims are heretics. A schismatic (as an extra Tidbit of information) is that it rejects the authority of faith. I am Catholic by the wayside.
