Why do not Roman Catholic priests marry?
im a catholic and I do not even know! I think your cousin a little strange my friend's dad is a Presbyteriann pastures and isobviouslyy married! it seems that all the religions of the priest or grass or whatever is permitted to marry unless Catholics …

For the same reason doctors can not be romantic / sexually involved with their patients. It would be a form of incest. The priests are the spiritual fathers, and would not be appropriate for them to date and marry one of their children. Moreover, the imbalance of power makes meaningful consent impossible.
This is less of a problem for the Protestant clergy because of his authority is normally limited to a specific congregation, but a priest is a spiritual father and a figure of authority to all Catholics.
"Sexual exploitation is a betrayal of trust in a pastoral relationship with the development or the attempt to develop a romantic or sexual relationship. Sexual exploitation occurs when any ordained minister, pastor, rabbi, professional pastoral counselor, chaplain, lay or staff member in a ministry role (for example, Stephen Minister, lay Eucharistic minister, minister of music, minister youth), PARTICIPATES IN SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH ANYONE WHO SERVED IN THE MINISTRY OF WORKER. Due to the unequal power inherent in all PASTORAL RELATIONS, this applies even when the person served consents or apparently INITIA sexual behavior. Behavior can range from sexual exploitation verbal, overt and covert seductive speech, gestures, and requests for sexual favors, to erotic touching or kissing to sexual intercourse. In sexual exploitation, whether the person is the recipient of sexual behavior and the office of the ministry itself are being exploited for the sexual gratification of a religious leader involved in sexual behavior. "(Manual of Clinical Pastoral Counseling, p. 346, emphasis added)
Catholic (contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church has married priests) and the Orthodox churches ordering both married men (men who married before becoming parents and spiritual authority figures), but ordained men can not marry.
EDIT: Seven thumbs down? I think these people are cool with the sexual exploitation. Sick.
Well, back in the Middle Ages, priests could marry. Church property to leave to their children, most of the land, the disposal of property of the Church. Thus, in the 4th century, the Pope and the Ecumenical Council (It may have been the Council of Nicea, but am not sure.) Decided to become priests may marry.
Will be accepted until recently, that if a priest had "urges", he could take care of them, provided it is done in silence. In many European countries, it is not unusual for a priest has a mistress on the side and even, sometimes, lives with her. (When I say "priest", I mean all the clergy, from priest to bishop, cardinal and pope.) So, if you had children, would be illegal or not recognized by law as their legal heirs. Therefore, they can not bequeath property to the church or leave them in their wills. The scandal of pedophilia in recent times has not been accepted by the Church.
There are a few married Catholic priests in the Church. I worked with someone who was the father of a Catholic priest. Most if not all, are members of the clergy which became his original religion and is also married and had families. Can remain and serve as the Catholic clergy and also to support their families. My coworker's father was an Episcopal priest and a conversion. The last time I heard, nearly 14 of these were priests in the Church throughout the world. If women are Episcopal priests to convert to Catholicism, were not allowed to continue serving as a Catholic priest.
I was very curious!
Brothers and sisters are believed to be "married to Christ" or "married to the Church." That is not the same as priests.
(a pasture is not a cleric, who is a field where animals graze)
Catholic priests do not marry for many reasons:
To prevent the delivery of the parishes from father to son, although the child is not a good leader.
To ensure that the priest of the attention, time, love extends equally throughout the community. Having a wife and children to avoid, as my wife and children need love and attention.
The priest is also supported by the parish. Can not afford to pay for a priest and his family.
Celibacy is not a biblical teaching!
(1 Timothy 4:1-3) "… However, the expression says definitively that inspired time later some people outside the faith, paying attention to misleading claims of inspiration and teachings of demons, 2 by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in consciousness as a branding iron, 3 to the prohibition of marriage, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be involved with thanksgiving by those who have faith and know the exact truth. "
How could Jesus heal his mother-in-law of Apostle Peter, if Peter were not married?
(Matthew 8:14-15) 14 And Jesus, on entering the house of Peter, saw his mother-in-law lying sick with fever. 15 Then he played his hand and the fever left her, and she got up and went their server.
(Mark 1:29-31) … And immediately left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now, Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with fever, and at once told him about it. 31 And it is there until you have raised, taking the hand and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
(Luke 4:38-39) … After leaving the synagogue, which entered the house of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a high fever, and the request made of him for it. 39 Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and left. Moment happened and went to them.
Many nobles became monks and priests, to seize their inheritance, forbid them to marry the church, that has no children.
Bingo.
Lilith @ Raven: You are a true calumnator!
You call San Pablo San Pablo "a rabid misogynist gay …"
Quote falsely omitting relevant parts:
(1 Corinthians 7:1-5) "Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it's okay for a man not to touch a woman, 2, however, due to the prevalence of fornication, that each man has his own wife and each woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband to make [her] because of his wife, but let the women do the same to [her] husband. 4 The wife does not exercise authority over his own body, but her husband is not the same way, also the husband does not exercise authority over his own body, but not his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other [it], except by mutual consent for a time which he can devote time to prayer and come together once again, that Satan may not be tempted by their lack of self-regulation " .
The devil has a disciple in you.
The Bible allows that in 1 Corinthians 9:3-10 see mention of how the apostles were accused of being married to their wives and join them in their travels, but mainly refers to the allegations about them accepting donations.
the point is that even if a priest is allowed to marry, the Catholic Church have decided not to marry her priest, and I guess it is devoting his entire life to serving God. those who are married and have families are responsible for their family, many times I realized the church volunteers to get out of positions of family issues and family problems, because one of the fathers of the church distracts from the responsibility of family affairs. So it is quite understandable
The argument was that since her love and devotion to God was the only one who did not need a woman in his life, the nuns had to be celibate for the same reason, were the brides of Christ. It stems from the injunction against Paul sexuality in general, except for purposes of procreation. This was also the basis of the injunctions against homosexuality and birth control.
There are a few reasons. The first is that Jesus was celibate and single. The priest is the sacramental presence of Christ. Is "persona Christi," which means "in the person of Christ."
Celibacy is a discipline of the priesthood. Nobody does a man become a priest, but if a man becomes a priest to make a promise to be celibate and devote themselves completely to Christ and to serve the Church. This is a sacrifice, but a call to holiness. Not everyone is called to the priesthood.
Most of us are called to the vocation of marriage. The marriage of disciplines has. We promise when you are married to "leave all the others," this is a discipline of the vocation of marriage. Celibacy is a discipline of the Roman Catholic priesthood vocation.
Also, if you read Matthew 19:12 - Jesus tells us that some people fail to marriage (sex) for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He says "allows you to listen to what they can hear it." In other words, some are called to celibacy, not everyone is known and not everyone will understand.
ADDED: For those who say that celibacy takes sexual perversion, check the facts. There is no evidence to support this popular fallacy. Most non-celibate priests are pedophiles. In fact, many are married or sexually active men who commit sexual crimes against children. There is absolutely no basis for asserting that celibacy leads to sexual perversion.
I looked in the Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1579. All ordained ministers of the Latin Church, with the exception of permanent deacons, are normally chosen from among men of faith who live a celibate life and who intend to remain celibate "for the sake of the kingdom of heaven." Called to consecrate themselves with undivided heart to the Lord and that "the affairs of the Lord" that are delivered entirely to God and men. Celibacy is a sign of this new life in the service of the Church that the minister is consecrated; accepted with a joyous heart celibacy radiantly proclaims the Reign of God.
His celibacy is a test of their commitment to the Church.
Have an undivided heart to the Lord. A marriage are divided heart.
I had to watch this one for sure that I am entitled. Thank you! Good question!
Belle, Paul also stated that this is not for everyone, he went on to say that would be worse to burn with lust and it would be better not to marry if they are called by God to be saints. Recent developments in the Catholic Church as it could be a symptom of Culture family traditions that forced young men in Holiness, when in fact what is not called by God but by her grandmother.
I think the priests to take heart Paul says in the New Testament is better if one remains single, to surrender completely to God.
I do not think it should be a requirement because even Jesus did not exclude any marriage and many of the apostles and disciples were married.
According to Catholic tradition, the priest is in the place of Christ. Since Jesus never married (except in fiction), priests are not allowed to marry. They are required to take a vow of celibacy.
BTW, is the grazing land where animals graze. Pastors lead the churches.
Just a note to RV: Paul (a minister of some renown) or never married. Reading the Bible can help you too.
~ They are married at the church.
An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how you can please the Lord.
But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how can please his wife,
1 Corinthians 7:32, 33.
A priest has a full time position, where all his energy and focused prayer to the Lord.
In truth, this position requires a large amount of time (lifetime), one can not simply conduct a mass, then close the door of the church and run to his family.
Concentration in association with prayer is a way that requires a great effort.
This is where the priest has been chosen by God on purpose.
Essentially, a priest is like an apostle of Jesus clearly said:
While passing through the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets at sea, they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them: "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men."
Then left their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them. So I left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Mark 1:16-20
God bless you "
As with most of the "strange things" on Catholicism, it comes to writing ….
Both Paul (1 Corinthians) and Jesus (in Matthew) suggest that it is better for a servant of God is not married. Avoid the marriage is not for everyone, they say, but for those who work directly with God, marriage and the care of a family becomes a powerful distraction from focusing on God's will.
Despite this, Simon Peter was married. There is no record that Jesus forbade the apostles to marry, and Paul said that his advice on marriage was his advice - not the word of God. (In fact, Paul goes so far as to say that a criterion for an elder in the church is to confine himself to a woman.)
Due to Paul. 1 Cor. 7:32-33 says "But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, how can it please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares about the things of the world-how to please his wife. "
It is not biblical for priests are not married. Paul chose not to.
Read your Bible … is food for your soul.
Pray and ask the Lord to reveal His truth not the rules made by man.
Here's an interesting article you may be interested in reading. http://www.johnankerberg.org/Articles/ro …
Originally, the priests were allowed to marry. changed so that when the priest died, all his possessions dating back to the church, rather than being transmitted to their survivors.
They did so until the 12th century.
After that, Rome did not want to lose the land inherited.
Abbot called the oldest sons of the earth - and I have. That is where most of the wineries in France began.
They are living the celibate.
They are trying to follow Jesus in the picture. Jesus was not married and focused on his preaching. They believe that if you are not married, then it will also focus more on the church.
due to the properties of the Church … if they marry after the church lost the property …
Not only the Catholic, other branches of Christianity, the Orthodox can not marry (although if you were married before ordered to keep their families not only supposed to have sex). This means they adhere to the original Christianity, while other areas suffered as presbyteriann soo many changes the rules of origin are very lax in different areas.
First - a pasture where animals graze. A pastor is a person who leads a congregation of believers. Secondly - Catholic priests are n ot allowed to marry in this country because it is one of the rules of the Catholic Church has imposed on its believers in the U.S. .. There are some countries where Catholic priests are allowed to marry, but the U.S. is not one of those countries.
Buntiful I pray that God gives blessings on you.
Catholics made up for his own Gospel (Trinity) so do what sounds good at the time of the bible says that there is no more, because Jesus is high priest is a priest now even the Bible says: "Call no man in the world for the father only one father in heaven "theres a lot of things that God and the Bible says that it does not follow my suggestion is that you leave. Catholics make a great head of the Apostles Creed, however, was never sighned by any of the apostles and had nothing to do with this …… theres more
Because the church wants to make a living of priests to remain in the church. They are required to go back over everything to the church.
That is one of the many reasons other religions branched and left the Catholic church, they do things without a reason.
I do not understand well. I think that prevents them from acting out sexually, I mean look at all the children have been moest for them?
Should be allowed to take wives.
I Love Angel Music, is my favorite here comes the bride!
Blessed Jesus is her boyfriend, its just them for the maintenance of the ceremony.
Roman Catholicism is a cult.Read Bible.
Ministers are suppose to be the husband of a woman.
simply because hearing and take its commands from the Antichrist (pope read each chapter rev 17) and not the Bible that says a bishop must be the husband of a woman.
Catholic priests, only priests and Roman Catholic papacy cannot marry because it violates the law
Imacatholic2 to ask is very informative.
