Why do politicians use the Bible to determine morality?

Over the centuries the Bible has been misinterpreted, misused, misunderstood and misquoted by people to defend heinous atrocities committed throughout human history, despite the fact that the whole world knows that nobody, including the Pope, is truly infallible in the eyes of God. However, many people are arrogant, not to mention seriously ignorant to assume that their interpretations of Scripture are correct, not flawed in some way, in the eyes of God.
Here are a few examples in history that the Bible has been used to promote and defend the crimes committed in the name of God. The Holy Crusades were approved by the Christian Church in the fight against Muslims. The Catholic popes even God promised that the soldiers would help Christians fulfill their mission, and affirmed that any man died in the battle to receive absolution for their sins, and assured eternal salvation in the world to come. Does this scenario sound familiar?
The Inquisition as an ecclesiastical tribunal was formed by the Catholic Church to eradicate all kinds of "heresies." The Inquisition used torture to coerce the confessions of people. Thousands of people were killed unjustly and mercilessly. Protestant reformers want to distance themselves from such practices, however, its own sordid history and the burning of witches at the game with experience in American Puritans are among some examples of such senseless killings. However, repression of the 'accused of heresy by ecclesiastical and civil authority in a predominantly Christian society persists to this day.
In the United States, the Southern Christian clerics used the Bible to defend slavery. The master class was responsible for the burden of Christianizing pagan land in exchange for rewards in heaven after life, and the slaves may be afraid to believe that disobedience to masters the land would be collected by disobeying God as he . Thus the Bible is affirmed as the best instrument for preserving peace and good conduct among the slaves. Subsequently, the segregation in the United States and apartheid in South Africa became the modern forms of discrimination against blacks were again supported by Biblical scripture.
Other groups have used the Bible or the misuse of their own to include the Nazi party in Germany's Third Reich, the FAQ and the United States. Members of these groups cree (and probably still believe) that his interpretation of Biblical scripture permits the killing of Jews, homosexuals and Gypsies, or the lynching and murder of black people.
  Times change
For those of you who take the Bible literally, you might enjoy reading about certain attitudes that clearly in Scripture are for the most part, not practiced by modern society.
  1. Slavery is clearly permitted (Judges 19-21). Perhaps there should be a referendum and let people reconsider their value and worth in our society today.
  2. Divorce is forbidden (Mark 10:1-12). Does this mean that one is an individual who should be excommunicated divorced and placed in a ghetto in order not to contaminate other people not divorced?
  3. Sex when a woman has her period is forbidden and punishable by stoning. (Lev. 18:19, 15:19-24, Lev. 18:29 0).
  4. Adultery is forbidden, punishable by death by stoning of women and men (Deut. 22:22).
  5. Virginity is a need for a woman to marry. If she is determined to be a non-virgin, the punishment is death by stoning (Deut. 22:13-21). Interestingly, the Bible is not concerned with the virginity of men.
  6. Take concubines and polygamy are practices that are acceptable (Gen. 2:24, Mark 10:6-8).
  7. Spilling male seed is punishable by death (Genesis 1:28, Genesis 38:7-10, Hebrews 7:10). Which undoubtedly would reduce the male population on earth.

Politicians will do whatever it takes to win an election.
Atheists do not do well in elections in America.
