Well, first, because many of the protesters were told that since they were toddlers. It is certainly what I said. And once we have been told this, our observations seem to confirm it. I will give you two examples: First, the statues of Mary or another saint on the front of the church are a stumbling block to many Protestants (although most of us, Lutherans do not have this particular issue). For this to be meaningful, it is necessary to consider the fact that most Protestants do not believe that the Eucharist is really Jesus. When protesters are preparing to take communion, what they see is a representation of Jesus, who although not currently visible, it is our object of worship. Then visit or see a picture of a Catholic church, and they see a statue of Mary in a prominent position. Mental process as another example of the same - as a representation that the bread and wine are a representation. Therefore, it is automatically assumed that Mary is to you an object of worship. Secondly, although the Protestants successfully wrap their minds around the fact that prayer is not worship, some of the prayers to Mary are very worrying for us. Might have something to do with how we are introduced to the idea of prayer to the saints. Nothing in the conventional explanation that you can set up a Protestant by the words of the Salve Regina. To ask another Christian to pray for us is something that makes sense for the majority of Protestants. However, another Christian to refer to as our life, sweetness and hope, and our lawyer, that person and ask for mercy in the context of our fallen nature - that is something quite different. I do not think that Catholics worship Mary, but I think the latter issue in particular is one that Catholics need to face to explain their practices. It is undoubtedly a major obstacle for me personally.

IMO it's because this is what we have been indoctrinated to believe in the family or religious leaders - people who love and / or respect. you really want to admit that someone you love / respect is wrong? would not and does not expect to turn to the mistaken beliefs of listening to a stranger, or even your own eyes. I hope Marty posts information on the comments of Martin Luther on Mary ..... going to pray to Mary in the same way as Catholics.

Because I think people confuse the act of prayer as an act of worship. My understanding is that the saints and angels are intermediaries and messengers of God. The true honor and worship is how you live your daily life and how to praise whatever God you believe in.

Sources huh? Big Fat EDIT: See my source below ... But I have to ask this ... Does Mary intercept your prayers for God and put them in holy as seen in the refrigerator so that your heavenly god can look at them when they return from their celestial journey?

They do not understand the difference between "worship" which is reserved for God, and "prayer", which simply means communication.

Because they have been deceived by Satan into thinking that Catholics worship Mary. And many of them act as agents of Satan in spreading lies against the Church that Christ founded.
