This is one of the things that gets lost in translation: P. I will include an article that goes into more detail on the subject, but when I first read the line 'did not know until they know …', it involves a sexual relationship, I assumed Mary was a virgin to the point the birth of Jesus and Joseph was just after the game: p.
While there is nothing wrong with the literal interpretation of the Greek said that Mary never slept with anyone after the birth of Christ, I believe that the Church had more to lose by admitting the issue of chastity. Before the reform, the Catholic Church and the values espoused a fundamentalist literal interpretation of the Bible. Admitting the possibility of an error in the original Greek would be admitting a problem in a divinely inspired book that was a big problem if you are asking an entire nation based on their religion in a wrong book.
Today, the Catholic Church and Christianity more than others with a less fundamentalist, more interpretive view of things. Or if Mary gave birth to other children after Jesus is a fact quite irrelevant, since the point of the story is that Jesus himself is the result of immaculate conception. Whether or not she remained a virgin is only important on the grounds of sexual morality. The Catholic Church has always been something to avoid sex and defended chastity (When John Milton implicitly Adam and Eve could have sex in a way that was not sin in Paradise Lost, the Church rejected the idea), to Mary as benefits ideal chaste virgin, but is not required to be maintained, because there is no precedent.
As many have said, the Virgin is essentially a traditional belief now, as the physical manifestation of Satan, Catholics are left to interpret on their own.

The perpetual virgin, and all the history in relation to Mary is just fiction and embarrassing … He was a ship, as Joesph …
Was chosen and blessed of God. She was a good Jewish mother and wife of the line of David as was Joseph …. Were a normal couple with children who have raised the son of God, while he was here, in earthly form.
And the other miracle of birth is recorded before Christ was born, all children born to infertile women … after the child was born of these women had many children ..
Anything else is simply manufactured greatness that is against the Bible …

"James and Joseph and Simon and Judas" is not the blood of his brother. They were the followers of Jesus. Like today. In my church, women are referred to as the sisters and the men brothers.In as the Catholic Church, refers to the nuns as the sister, "so and so", but that does not mean I'm related to them. I called the priest father that does not mean it's my dad. Kapish.
I have a question for you, a little common sense here, do you honestly believe that Joseph and Mary did not have sex ?????
An older man with a young wife, are we going?
As a Christian, I can say that Mary was the Virgin Mary, because we honor the fact that she was pure when she gave birth to Jesus. It is a way to honor her.

Although it is unlikely that Mary remained a virgin and never gave birth to more children. We also know that Joseph had other children from a previous marriage. Jesus had step-siblings and / or sisters. And cousins were also referred to as brothers and sisters. And someone, please let me know if I'm wrong, but do not know of any Bible verses that confirm the names of the sons of Mary gave birth after Jesus. These are just a couple of reasons why it was always assumed virgin.

No one bothers to mention that this would also Joseph perpetual virgin, either as an asset or an adulterer.
The Roman Catholic Church is not supported in Scripture with all its beliefs, but keep in mind the tradition of the church also was inspired.
(I'm not Roman Catholic, nor do I believe that Mary was a perpetual virgin).

Although many Catholics hold to the virgin forever the doctrine of his church, it's generally considered fair church tradition. There are some Catholics who die hard attempt to say that these were his "spiritual brothers and sisters" to hold to the doctrine virgin forever. Ignorance is bliss.

There is a very simple explanation in the original Greek, the word sometimes translated as "brothers" can also include any male member of the family as a cousin.
Even Martin Luther, who personally translated the entire Bible from the original Hebrew and Greek, which was held the perpetual virginity of Mary as a doctrine of Scripture.

The same word 'brother' and Adelphe can mean 'on'. This is as it should be used in the Book of Tobit, written not long before, when he told Sarah to marry a Adelphe, which by Jewish law can not be a brother.

I think that is all being paranoid and ill-tempered
this is the Virgin Mary was seen as we are talking about it after his ascension into heaven = pure virgin ….
Why choose to say that the history obtained directly from the heavens, Jesus? It may be true, or maybe just a figure of speech, notwithstanding the importance of purity
