First, what does this have to do with politics, and second, would it still be the Catholic church if it gave up the Papacy?
No way, no how. It helps to have one person to be able to sort things out at the top (even if you disagree personally), and it would run counter to two thousand years of history & tradition.
what do you mean ‘give up’ the idea of the Papacy? What’s the Church supposed to do: have the Pope declare that It’s been wrong all these years and It wasn’t supposed to have Popes? Not only is that self-destructive, but it doesn’t make sense. Christ instituted the Papacy when He left Peter in charge; Peter chose a successor to take his place when he died and so forth. There is an uninterrupted line of popes going all the way back to Peter; always guiding the Church throughout tough times and good times; and this is the way Christ meant for his Church to be. How he didn’t mean for it to be was splintered into thousands of different ‘denominations.’ The Catholic church will never give up the idea of the Papacy just like It will never lose hope that one day Christ’s Church will be one again.
