Having been enlightened by an angel in a dream related to pregnancy, and perhaps even more so in relation to the words of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary at her Annunciation, Joseph knew that God had made himself as a husband in relation to Mary. She forbids him forever, and for the sake of the child and Mary can only live with her in a totally chaste relationship.
      Joseph celibate as a caregiver
As a recipient of the great revelation of what was conceived in the womb of Mary, his betrothed, is the Holy Spirit and the child to be born to save his people from their sins, surely he knew that Joseph was called to care Mary and her Son, the Messiah, for the rest of his life, so the angel told him to take Mary as his wife.
We can reasonably assume that Mary now shares with him all that the Archangel Gabriel told him. Nothing less than "the Son of God" (Lk 1:35) was entrusted to their care under the shelter of his humble home, now converted into the Holy of Holies.

The Bible does not say anything with certainty what happened between them. Other than the Bible, the only writing of the Catholic Church in relation to Joseph (I know) is that of his death (and the authenticity of which is debated among scholars).
The Catholic Church holds that Mary had no other children after Jesus and remained a virgin throughout her life. The Bible supports this, because when Jesus was on the cross he sent Juan (one of his disciples who was not his blood brother) for the care of his mother. This would be one of his kinsmen had been made, so obviously there was no one left to take care of José María because not all (obviously already dead or the gospels would have mentioned there, and John is not should have in your house of Mary).
In addition, Joseph is strangely absent from most of the Gospels, Mary is represented as itself in several places with Jesus (Joseph makes the picture all together). This suggests that Joseph may have died at the time of Jesus began his ministry. According to Jewish law, Mary would have had to remain a virgin after Joseph died. Also, according to Bible scholars, the so-called "Brothers of Jesus' cousins were probably only because there was no word for" cousin "in Aramaic and the Aramaic word for" brother "is commonly used to designate 'cousin '.

The main sources of information about life in San Jose are the first chapters of our first and third Gospels, are also virtually the only credible source, since, while the patriarch of the holy life, as in many other points relating to the Savior of the story is left intact the doctrine canonical apocryphal literature is full of details, the dismissal of these works in the canon of holy books cast a strong suspicion about its contents, and, although he conceded that some of the facts recorded by them may be founded on trustworthy traditions, it is in most cases almost impossible to discern and filter these particles from the true story of fantasy with which they are associated. Among these apocryphal productions dealing more or less extensively with some episodes of the life of San Jose can see the "Gospel of James," the "Pseudo-Matthew," the "Gospel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary" The "History of Joseph the carpenter," and "Life of the Virgin and the death of Joseph."
      Genealogy
San Mateo (1:16) called San José, the son of Jacob, according to Luke (3:23), Heli was his father. This is not the place to recite the many and various activities to address the most pressing questions arising from differences between the two genealogies, nor is it necessary to point out the explanation that best meets the requirements of the problem (see genealogy of Christ), just remind the reader that, contrary to what was once advocated, most modern writers readily admit that in both documents we possess the genealogy of Joseph, and it is very possible to reconcile their data.
      Marriage
It is probably at Nazareth that Joseph and married her fiancé was going to be the Mother of God. When the marriage took place, either before or after the Incarnation, it is not easy to solve, and at this point the masters of exegesis have at all times the variance. Most commentators, following the footsteps of St. Thomas, understand that at the time of the Annunciation, the Virgin was only affianced to Joseph, as St. Thomas notices, this interpretation suits better all the evangelical data.
It will not be without interest to recall here, but are unreliable, the long history of St. Joseph in marriage contained in the apocryphal writing. When forty years of age, Joseph married a woman named Melcher Escha or by some, Salome by others, who lived forty-nine years together and had six children, two daughters and four sons, the youngest of whom was James ( the least, "the Lord's brother"). One year after the death of his wife, as announced by the priests of Judea who want to find in the tribe of Juda a respectable man to espouse Mary, then twelve to fourteen years of age. Joseph, who was at the time ninety years old, went to Jerusalem among the candidates, a miracle of God that the election manifesto had made of Joseph, and two years later the Annunciation took place. These dreams, as the styles of St. Jerome, from which many a Christian artist has drawn his inspiration (see, for example, Rafael "Espousals of the Virgin"), are void of authority, However, acquired in the course of ages some popularity in them some ecclesiastical writers sought the answer to the known difficulties associated with the words in the Gospel of "brothers of the Lord", of whom also popular credulity has, contrary to all probability, as well as the presence of the ancient tradition works of art, retained the belief that St. Joseph was an old man at the time of marriage with the Mother of God.
The Nativity and the Flight into Egypt
A few months later, it was time for Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem to be registered in accordance with the decree issued by Caesar Augustus: a new source of anxiety for Joseph, for "their days were, to be handed "and" there was no place for them in the inn (Luke 2:1-7). What must have been thinking of the holy man at the birth of the Savior, the coming of the shepherds and the wise, and the events that occurred at the time of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, we can only guess ; San Lucas says he was just "thinking about things that are spoken in relation to him" (2:33). New tests were soon to follow. The news that a king of the Jews was born, but could not turn into the evil heart of the old and bloody tyrant, Herod, the fire of jealousy. Again "an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly to Egypt, and be there until I tell you" (Matthew 2:13) .
      Return to Nazareth
The summons to return to Palestine came only after a few years, and the Holy Family settled again at Nazareth. San Jose was henceforth the simple and monotonous life of a humble Jew, supporting himself and his family for his work, and faithful to the religious practices commanded by the Act or observed

  11. Catholic Defender says:

    Virgin Mary is always
"And indeed it was a virgin, about to marry once and for all after her delivery, who gave birth to Christ, so that each title of sanctity might be fulfilled in the descent of Christ by a mother who was a virgin, and the wife of a husband. Once again, when he is presented as a child in the temple, which is what you get man into their hands? Who is the first to recognize Him in spirit? A man just and circumspect, "and certainly not digamist (which is unclear), including (as of this review) is not (otherwise) to Christ must be the most worthily preached by a woman, an aged widow and the wife of a man who was dedicated to the life in the temple, was (already) on his person a reason for what people should be bonded to the spiritual temple, - that is, the Church. Such eye-witnesses the Lord found in childhood, there was no different than in adulthood. "Tertullian, On Monogamy, 8 (AD 213).
"Yes, Mary, who claim that their right mind with praise, he had no other son but Jesus, but Jesus said to his mother, Woman, behold your son, 'and behold, this child has no Also, you almost said, Lo, this is Jesus, that you bear. "Is not it the case that anyone who is perfect and does not live to himself, but Christ lives in him, and if Christ lives in him, then he is said to Mary: Behold your son Christ. "What a mind, then we must take to enable us to interpret in a manner worthy of the job, but is committed to the land of treasures of the house of common speech, as written by any passerby can read, and that can be heard when read aloud by a given body to its ears? "Origen, Commentary on John, I: 6 (AD 232).
"Therefore, let those who deny that the Son of the Father is by its very nature and essence, he denies that He took true human flesh of Mary always Virgin, in neither case has been of benefit to us men, if the words were untrue and, indeed, the Son of God or the flesh not true which He assumed. "Athanasius, prayers against the Arians, II: 70 (AD 362).
"And when he had taken her, she did not know until she had carried out her first child." He has used the word up here, 'you do not shouldest suspect that after he did know but who you before reporting the birth of the Virgin was wholly untouched by man. But why then, can be said that he used the word up? As is usual in Scripture often to do this, and to use this expression without reference to limited times. With regard to the ark likewise, said the raven did not return to the earth dried up. " And yet, did not return even after that time. And also when discoursing of God, the Scripture has said, age to age you are, not as limits in this case. And again when preaching the Gospel beforehand, saying, In his days justice flourish, and abundance of peace until the moon be taken away, 'Will you not set a limit to this fair part of creation. Therefore, here too, uses the word "up" to ensure that what was before birth, but as for what follows, that lets you make the inference. "John Chrysostom, Gospel of Matthew, V: 5 (AD 370).
"Therefore, it was necessary for you to learn from him, that he himself has said that the Virgin was untouched by man until the birth, but both are considered a consequence of the above statement, and acknowledged, this in turn stops you perceive, that even after this, so you have to be a mother, and have been deemed worthy of a new type of work, and an age of so strange, you can that just have never had to know. As if he had known her, and had remained in place for a wife, how is it that our Lord commits as unprotected, and that no one, to his disciple, and commands to take her home? How, then, one might say, are James and his call to the other siblings? In the same way that José would be the husband of Mary. For many are the veils, where the birth, being as it is, could be considered for a while. Therefore, even called John So saying, nor for his brethren believe in Him. " John Chrysostom, Gospel of Matthew, V: 5 (AD 370).
"But those who by virginity have desisted from this process have drawn within themselves the boundary line of death, and by their own acts have proved their progress, but they have made themselves, in fact, a boundary between life and death, and a barrier too, which frustrates him. If, then, death can not pass beyond virginity, but its power is destroyed and checked there, it is shown that virginity is one thing stronger than death, and rightly so, that body is the eternal not the service is provided to a dying world, nor brook to become the instrument of a succession of dying creatures. In that body the long continuum of decay and death that

All references to try to convince Mary was "ever virgin" are not from the Bible which are the opinions of people.
The Bible clearly says that "Joseph knew now until after the birth of Jesus"
KNOW the Bible is the sex!
Mary was blessed, Mary had faith that we should take as an example and encouragement for us, but it was a normal human female.

  14. Dr. E says:

who had more children, of course, the brothers and sisters of Jesus
Hey soldier of Christ, how can you remain a virgin after giving birth to a baby?
Check this passage in his Bible:
      Matthew 13:55
"Is not this the carpenter's son? Not his mother called Mary? And his brothers, James and Mr Joses, and Simon and Judas? "
    Matthew 27:56
"Among which was Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Mr Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee."
Here we see at many different levels that Mary is identified as the "Mother" by James and Mr Joses. This has nothing to do with the translation of the word "brother." And it is again clear in Matthew 13:55 that Jesus Mr Joses and James brothers! And clearly, at two levels, we have the truth of the word that Mary was the mother of Jesus, James and Mr Joses, and Mr Joses and James was the brother of Jesus. To be resolved for any rational, objective thinker. But the Roman tradition is not rational, it is indoctrination. However, the clear meaning of scripture (for open-minded) is manifested in its clarity.
    Mark 3:31
"There came then his brethren and his mother, standing without, sent unto Him known."
    Mark 6:3
"Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Mary, the brother of James, and Mr Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended by it. "
Again, the context of scripture reveals that this is speaking of the family of Jesus' blood! In other words, Jesus, Son of Mary, the brother of James and Mr Joses, and he also had sisters. Is the identification of a family of blood, and it would be tortuous of scripture to deny this. If we say that the word does not mean your brother, brothers, we must also say that the word does not mean Mother Mary Mother of Jesus. For the same word used in Matthew 27:56 says Mary is the Mother of James and Mr Joses. And it is absolutely absurd to believe that Mary was the mother of James and Mr Joses.
    Mark 15:40
      "There are also women looking at far: among whom was Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and Mr Joses, and Salome;
    Mark 16:1
"And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the Mother of James, and Salome, had sweet spices, that might come and anoint Him."
Anyone who looks at the Scriptures as "caring" and "honest" can reach any other conclusion but that Mary had other children. The problem is not that the Scriptures do not clearly state this, the problem is that the Roman Catholic church places tradition above the authority of the Word of God, which is not effective (mark 7:13). There is nothing in the Word of God which implicitly or explicitly said that Jesus was the only son of Mary, or that Mary remained a virgin. But the context of many verses show that the natural sexual union between Joseph and Mary after Christ was born.
    Matthew 1:24-25
"So Joseph was raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took him to his wife:
And she did not know they had made to his firstborn son: and called his name, Jesus! "
He knew that his "no (no physical sexual union with her) until she had carried out their eldest son, Jesus. From this statement, it is clear that he knew (in the biblical sense) after the birth of Jesus. As a practical example, if someone said he had a wife, but did not consummate the marriage until after January, and in response I said that means never consummated the marriage, you might think it ridiculous. And you will be right. But this is exactly what Roman Catholics do in terms of the above verses of Scripture.
