i was catholic for 10 years …. no more!
God brought my family out of it!
cree that the Pope has the authority of God here on earth.
priests who have been given the "authority" to forgive the sin when parishner confess.
as Christians we know, only God can forgive sin.
Christians do not follow the doctrine of men ….
"The fact that from now on there will be no more children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the game of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they are to wait to deceive. " (eph.4: 14)

Jesus said something that fits sooooo well here: "But do not be called Rabbi, is one of your teacher, that all we are brothers. On the other hand, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your father, the Heavenly One. Neither is called "leaders" for a leader is, the Christ. "(Matthew 23:8-10)
The use of titles as Father of the Catholic Church is another way that does not follow the Bible.

The idea is to ask our pastor Father of the spiritual recognition that have dedicated their life to the work of disseminating the word of God. A priest is not regarded as the equivalent of God the Father! I believe that our priests human sources of spiritual guidance - but never equal to God or more divine than the rest of us. Our priests do not worship, but respect them. It's very different to call God our Father - I do not think of it in the same way, and * is * the intention that counts.
When we go to confession, the idea is not that the priest is to forgive you - is that you are speaking on behalf of God. Not with a divine power, but the Holy Spirit is working through it - then the priest can give us direction on how to repent of our sins. If I confess to having a fight with my brother, the priest may suggest that for next week should seek to participate in a nonviolent activity that both enjoy, to help bonds.
Thanks for asking so nicely! I am always glad to explain different views that one can be used a.

The Catholic Church does not say that.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the seven sacraments Christ gave his church. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also known as the Sacrament of Penance or Confession. This sacrament can free us from our sins, and the burden of guilt that comes along with our sins. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation - confession - we are back to union with God. Our sins separate and damage our relationship with our Lord, and it is through this sacrament stronger than our relationship with the Lord is repaired and reinforced. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation can walk closer with the Lord once again, without the burden of our sins weigh us away from our relationship with God.
Some ask why Catholics confess to a priest instead of simply going directly to God. Some argue that the confession to a priest is not biblical. But that is not true.
We confess to a priest, because it is the way that Jesus instigated the sacrament. It is at its command to confess to one another. When you sin against the Father our sins also affect our Christian family. Confess sins to a priest is something that was not a universal practice and discussed in the Early Church.
Jesus himself was able to heal the sick not only physically but also spiritually disease. Christ had the power to forgive sins (see Matthew 9:1-8, Mark 2:5-12).
Spent in power to forgive sins in his name to his Apostles.
Jesus entrusted his Church with the power to forgive sins through this wonderful sacrament. The priest is acting in persona Christi (in the person of Christ) in the confessional, but it is our Lord who forgives our sins. The priest grants absolution (sets us free from our sins), using the power Jesus entrusted to his Church. It is through Christ, however, that our sins are forgiven.
St. Paul tells us, "And all this comes from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting their trespasses against them and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, Christ's ambassadors, as though God were appealing through us. "(2 Corinthians 5: 18-20)
Does this mean that we should not talk and pray directly to God and express sorrow for our sins? Not at all! In fact, for the day to day failures is exactly what we should do. However, for the most serious offenses, for grave and mortal sins, we must repent and confess through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, because that is what Christ commands us to do.
      Confession
The practice of confession comes from the example and command of Jesus, who showed that human nature could be used by God as an instrument of grace and forgiveness. He said "That you may know that the Son of Man has the power to forgive sins …" (Matthew 9:6, Mk 2:7-10, Lk 5:21-24). He used the Hebrew title was "ben Adam", which means "Son of Adam." This was the Hebrew way of saying "a human being." Jesus always glory in his humanity, because through it redeemed us. Communicated this authority to his apostles on the night of Passover, "who forgives sins are forgiven, the sins you retain they are retained" (Jn 20:19-23). In this way he gave the Apostles the power to give "peace" (v.21), which is nothing less than the reconciliation of man with God.
The text makes clear how, even a confession is to be conducted. The representative of Christ, the priest, must decide whether to forgive or retain. Therefore, the penitent must confess each and every grave sin, which is all that separates him from Christ. If the priest judges is really sorry and that he should acquit the Passion of Christ deserves forgiveness for every repentant sinner. Only if the person shows no willingness to abandon the sin is to keep the priest, who is retaining an acquittal because "it is not holy to the dogs" (Mt 7:6).
The means by which God forgives sins after baptism is the confession: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Minor or venial sins can be confessed directly to God, but for grave or mortal sins, which crush the spiritual life of the soul, God has created a means for forgiveness-the sacrament known as confession, penance or reconciliation.
This sacrament is based on the mission that God gave to Christ as the Son of man on earth and will forgive sins (cf. Matt. 9:6). Thus, the crowd who witnessed this new power "glorified God who had given such authority to men" (Matthew 9:8; note the plural "men"). After his resurrection, Jesus went on his mission to forgive the sins of his ministers, saying: "As the Father has sent me, even so I send you …. Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins are forgiven them, if retengáis, they are retained "(John 20:21-23).
Since it is not possible to confess all of our daily faults, we know that sacramental reconciliation is required only for grave or mortal sins, but it is necessary, or Christ would not have ordered it.
However, the basics of the sacrament have always been there, as the following quotations reveal. Of particular importance is the recognition that the confession and absolution must be received by a sinner before receiving Holy Communion, for "[w] Hoever … Eat the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way to be guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord "(1 Cor. 11:27).
      The Didache
"Confess your sins in church, and do not go to prayer with an evil conscience. This is the way of life …. In the Lord's Day meeting, the bread and give thanks after confessing your transgressions so that your sacrifice may be pure "(Didache 4:14, 14:1 [AD 70]).

  5. solarius says:

First, you can pray to God. It's not as if the Catholic Church has a ban on prayer to God. But the idea of confession comes from a biblical verse that we confess our sins to each other, and also from a biblical passage in which Christ gave the power of forgiveness of sins to his apostles, and said that what these people have decided forgive to be forgiven. Since the Catholic Church believes in the doctrine of apostolic succession, believing that this power still exists today.

  6. Francine M says:

I am not a Catholic, but a Baptist, I just want to say, because you are asking this question shows that you are increasingly Christ. I take this to the Father in prayer.

  8. Steve N says:

You are right. The Catholic Church has it all wrong. We must live in God's word by reading the Bible and having a personal relationship with God. Priest is not mandatory. That's why we have the Holy Spirit.
The Catholic Church does many things that are not biblical.

  9. Silent watcher of fools says:

  10. Phoenix Princess of Darkness says:

Catholicism does not say who should go through a priest to confess. The priest is available if you want to confess your sins out loud. The priest can help guide you through the process and offer words of wisdom. Helps some people to confess out loud and get a wink of a holy man who had done a good job. The confession appears to have more weight when they have to admit what you did to another human being.
While apologizing (aloud, mentally, in a church in your backyard, whatever), you will be forgiven.
