I was homeless for over 3 years. The Catholic Church gave me food and shelter. Most of the fundamentalist sermons and gave me a false reading material. Peace be with you anyway.

Pastor B says it all. The Pope's personal life is simplicity, as was John Paul the second. The outward 'show' of buildings and clothing is traditional, to the glory of God and a way of 'lifting' the glory for the Christian. Why not sell your house if you have one and give to the poor? Remember, the disciples said that a waste of money that was when the woman poured expensive ointment on Jesus' head. They thought it would have been better spent on the poor. Jesus said the poor will always be with us, but he did not. If the buildings and churches were pulled doen and the money given to the poor, it would be like a drop in the ocean and we must remain poor. Poverty is caused by many reasons.

While not intended to defend or to provoke an argument is made that the Church of England is the largest landowner in the United Kingdom and Queen is not exactly living in poverty is the head of the Church. I remember how Jesus lived his life in poverty. I call this way many of us are willing to give away all our possesions to follow. It is easy to say that I am a follower of Christ, but we are all in the first place to ourselves before criticizing others. I once saw a brilliant question. If you were charged with the crime of being a Christian would have sufficient evidence to convict you. It's worth thinking about.

I have a lot of questions about the Pope as you have. One that bothers me more than most is the fact they pray to the pope and he is allowed to change the Bible. That is a big problem for me! Yes Jesus was a simple man and not expect the money and jewels for his works. only gives the church to make God's work.

The Vatican's annual budget is approximately the size of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The funds are on hand for the maintenance of the Vatican itself, in part by missionaries and other jobs around the world. Not bad for an organization with millions of members. If someone thinks that the Vatican is fabulously wealthy, perhaps asking a bit of proof is not out of line. If someone is a conspiracy theorist, no amount of argument will work. You can give the person a certified copy of all the secrets of the Vatican's financial records, and had to be said that are untrue ... I suppose we could ask why the Vatican has trouble balancing its annual budget rather small. The wealth of the Church is almost entirely the church buildings, hospitals, schools and missions, in addition to works of art. You could sell the artworks, but the product does not feed the poor of the world, even for a day. If the Vatican sold all their works of art, will be hundreds of millions of dollars - but only once. Then is gone, and that money does not go very far. (In the U.S. alone spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year on programs related to social welfare.) Second, the Popes are custodians, not owners. They have a responsibility to preserve these [legacy / gift] art treasures for posterity, not to sell them off to private collections. Thirdly, these works are things of beauty, beauty and all relates to a beauty that is God. The Church knows that it can get closer to God in many ways, and one of them is through the arts. Perhaps are not aware that there are hundreds of thousands of monks and Catholic nuns from around the world to take a vow of poverty? They own nothing personally, and shared houses, clothing and food are not extravagant (sometimes even a little). Surely you know that the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a Catholic and has thousands of other Sisters of Charity imitating around the world today. Perhaps you are not aware that the single largest private provider of money and goods to people in areas of drought, disaster, etc., is based in the U.S., "CRS" -- And there are other similar Catholic organizations from around the world. No entity, public or private, in the history of mankind, which has done so much for those in need (regardless of race or religion) as the Catholic Church has done and continues doing. Much of the sacrifices they are encouraged and even mandated by the Vatican itself has heard falsely accused of accumulating wealth.

For one of the treasure that no Vatican, stop reading the di Vinci Code, and as St. John Vianney, who wore simple clothes and had holes in their shoes, "At the door of the Catholic Church stops throughout poverty and I only accept the best for God. " How can God, not the simple. Look at the temple of David was extravagant. Hmmmm, sounds like the King David was the Vatican to pay more attention to the expected place of worship, did not want to give the best to their king, King of the Universe. The Church today has very little money, in fact, may be just above the redline on the landscape due to the allegations, the case, sadly, and false, which is the common case. The only treasure that the Church has and will have the Eucharist. No luxuriy in the office of the papacy. Think its a 78 years old who have to worry about 3 billion Christians, 2 billion, we do not believe that you are the Vicar of Christ on earth due to some lunitic in the 1500s, most of the one billion Catholics do not I do not know what the papacy is, or what they consist of people and all the time because they are lazy to go pick up a dang book.

This is a very good question There is a big difference in a religion and a relationship with Jesus, a relationship that is created to have all your calls. Many religious movements that began to be fully God, then suddenly it became more and more to the man and what a man wants and desires. I pray this will never happen to me and my walk in Christ Jesus, for His glory and His glory is only his word and actions, no one should succeed or lead to fame for himself.
