I need to know the difference between Catholics and Protestants?

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
Only by grace, faith in Christ in the saving work and not for any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works . http:/ / www. vatican.va / roman_curia / pontificated …
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, in my opinion, it does not matter much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of his Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

Pastor Billy says: it really depends on who you talk to.
Catholicism is primarily Christianity, Protestantism is a heresy began during the 16th century. Protestants use the term "reform" for its initial period of protest. It was more a rebellion and no reform can not reform something that is no longer a part of.
All first and Protestants continue to believe that the true Catholic teaching. Today some Protestants are admitted to be a Catholic with an important exception to the Anglican or Episcopalian. They argue like the Eastern Orthodox (who were never Protestants), they remain Catholics.
Another anomaly is the Baptist sects such as that today not only reject the title of Catholic, but also chose to reject the title Protestant. That if one was motivated to accept the title would be assenting to a Protestant understanding of the principles of Christianity and Catholicism being the Protestantism is a heresy that just broke from Catholicism.
Baptists, therefore, entering a review of the history in an attempt to circumvent the arms of the Roman Catholic Church to the authority of Jesus and his apostles. They delude themselves and doing much of what is primarily Christianity.

If there are human before anything else, it makes no difference.

  3. Charline says:

Protestants are Christians who broke from the Catholic Church in the 15th century on doctrinal differences, the roles of faith and works to attain salvation.

    well
      * Catholics follow the Bible and the Roman Catholic tradition .. and say that the tradition carries equal weight with the Bible.
      * Protestants follow only the Bible (Word of God) and say that the Popes and Cardinals are mere men and have no authority to contradict the Bible

  5. † PRAY † - SFECU says:

1 Catholic means universal, all Christians are universal.
2 Protestants are a group aligned with Luther and the German princes who protested against the Roman Catholic Church.
3 Roman Catholics are aligned with the Church of Rome, whose head is the Pope.
4 There are several other groups that date back to the time of the Apostles, namely Kopts of Egypt,
Armenian Church, Abyssinian Church, the Celtic Church, Anabaptists, Gnostics, Baptists and many others who are not Catholic or Protestant.
5 The Eastern Orthodox (Russian and Greek) with the division of Rome around 1200 years ago, which are based in Greece.
The New Testament teaches that the church is a mystical body of believers in Jesus Christ and a church.
There has always been a small group that followed God in the Old Testament and the New … until today. They are known as "remnant."
It has been persecuted, tortured, defamed and ridiculed.
The two main Protestant and Roman Catholic churches have been his accusers and persecutors.
You do not have a city that is related to … their loyalty is to Christ alone, through faith alone, in the Bible alone. These members of the pilgrims here on earth, seeking the heavenly city, citizenship Heaven.

There is one more, Apostolic, who are neither Catholic nor Protestant.

  7. plowmsca says:

Roman Cathoics is a religion of idolatry, while the Protestant Bible is not the final authority in faith and practice. Catholics final human authority is the Pope in Rome. Catholics are a superstitious group of religious people, while Protestants living by simple faith in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross 2000 years ago it presented in the NT of the Bible. This blessed hope of eternal life that Jesus showed himself by his resurrection from the dead after three days buried in the tomb.

  8. pericles says:

Basically, the Protestants are Christians who left the Catholic Church with Martin Luther in 1500.

  9. Moonshine Johnny says:

Catholic - founded by Jesus Christ teaches the fullness of truth; exibits the unity of faith, unity of teaching, unity of worship around the world through 20 centuries, as described by Christ to his Church.
Protestant - not authorized or established by Jesus Christ, teaches the partial truth mixed with the traditions of their new men introduced by many human founders. Exibits widespread doctrinal disunity and chaos, the opposite of what is described by the Church of Christ.

  10. PaulCyp says:

To be Catholic is to believe in an apostolic faith, namely the tradition of priests convey the right of way goes back to the beginnings of the church and the apostles by the laying on of hands of other priests of the new priest. The belief that the Pope is Peter's in the spirit and the church leader. As stated in the Bible, as proclaimed in the land, so it is in heaven. Also … There are traditions of belief about the actual make wine and bread into the body and blood of Christ. Jesus is part of the trinity of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. and other traditions as well. Oh, and the belief in intercessors. Like the belief in marters of the faith, saints, angels. and of course the priests to intercede on their behalf with God and Jesus.
Protestants do not want inercessors. They believe in their right to pray to God directly in relation to their sins, needs, etc.
Although Catholics are not against it, is not tradition.
While Catholic schools and to interpret the Bible for their next Protestant protested this, and proclaim their right to interpret for themselves.
affecting something. That is the root cause of separation.
Note that the Catholic is not the only ones who believe in an apostolic tradition. The Greek Orthodox Church, the Anglican 's, Episcopalians, etc., also do so. Protested by the Catholic church, I believe, as it did without the permission of popel
      :)
And there were those who were Christians before "Catholic" and never exsisted joined the exception of the Catholic or the Pope's authority after the Catholic church was organized.

  11. becky says:

Catholics are Christians. All other Christian group is a branch of the Catholic Church. They separated themselves because of doctrinal disagreements. A group led by Martin Luther, a Catholic priest, was separated in 1521. This is called the Protestant Reformation. And then, other Protestant denominations split with the original Protestant offshoots. (1521, separated by Luther and Munzer formed the Anabaptists, 1536, were separated and Calvinism Calvino, 1560, separated and formed the Knox Presbyterian, 1609 John Smith started the Baptists, 1739, John and Charles Wesley started Methodism).
Jesus has promised that he will build his Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18) For 2000 years, with an unbroken line of Popes going back to Peter himself, the Catholic Church has survived even with the opposition continued. This can be attributed to its divine origin. The Catholic Church has grown over time and has millions of members, not by the cunning of the leaders of the Church, but the protection of the Holy Spirit.
Catholics believe that God speaks to us through Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture. Sacred Tradition preserves first doctrine taught by Jesus to the apostles and later passed to us through the Church, under the leadership of the successors of the Apostles, popes and bishops. Apostolic teachings and the teachings of the Fathers of the Early Church, the Trinity, purgatory, Mary, have been present and taught through Tradition, although they are not present in implicitly and no doubt to the contrary to Scripture. "So, brethren, stand firm and hold the traditions which you were taught, either verbally or in writing to us" (2 Thess. 2:15). The Old and New Testaments and Scripture is inspired by God. (2 Tim 3:16). The Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of the Bible to write what I wanted to write. With this, Catholics recognize that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully and without error that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the Sacred Scripture (CCC 107). With this, Catholics agree with the "Christian Bible" that the Bible is sufficient or insufficient (Sola Scriptura in Latin). The notion of "the Bible is all I need" can not be found in the Bible. In fact, the Bible teaches the contrary idea. (2 Pet. 1:20-21, 3:15-16). Otherwise, we know what the Constitution says, but we still have the Supreme Court to interpret what it means. This is when the Magisterium of the Church comes in. This is the governing body of the Catholic Church that interprets Scripture. Is infallible when it teaches officially because Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to guide the apostles and their successors (John 16:12-13).
Catholics believe in 7 sacraments instituted by Christ himself. Jesus promised to not let us orphans (John 14:18), but to send the Holy Spirit to guide and protect us (John 15:26). He gave the sacraments to heal, nourish and strengthen us. These are the 7 sacraments: Baptism (CCC 1213-1284), penance (CCC 1422-1498), the Eucharist (CCC 1322-1419), Confirmation (CCC 1285-1321), marriage (CCC 1601-1666), Holy Orders (CCC 1536-1600), and the Anointing of the Sick (CCC 1499-1532). "Bible Christians" have a different opinion with the sacraments. Each name is different. For Protestants, who have only Baptism and the Eucharist, while others see the ritual as merely symbolic, and yet has a sacramental dimension at all.
Catholics believe that through prayer, growing in their relationship with Christ and members of the family of God (CCC 2663-2696). This family includes all members of the Church, whether on earth, in heaven or in purgatory. Since Jesus is one body and death has no power to separate us from Christ (Rom. 8:38), Christians who are in heaven, or that before entering heaven, are being purified in purgatory for God's love (1 Cor 3. :12-15) remain part of the Body of Christ (CCC 962). Catholics' prayers to the saints in heaven, asking for prayers and their intercession for us not undermine the unique role of Christ as Mediator (1 Tim 2:5). St. Paul even exhorts us to pray for each one it is pleasing to God (1 Tim. 2:1-4).
Catholics have a special devotion to Mary is the reason that Catholics honor her and ask her intercession. God has a special role in its (CCC 490-511, 963-975). He saved from all sin (Luke 1:28,47), he made his only blessed among all women (Luke 1:42), and make it a model for all Christians (Luke 1:48). Catholics ask your prayers because Jesus honors her mother. He performed his first miracle, although it was not yet his time and requested that Mary (John 2:1-5). "Bible Christians" believe that there is no need for mediators as Christ is interceding for us.
The Catholic Church teaches what the apostles taught and what the Bible teaches: We are saved by grace, not just by faith alone. (Jas 2:24). When we come to God and justified (which is going into a right relationship with God), nothing is pre-justification, whether faith or good works, earns grace. But then God plants His love in our hearts and we must live our faith by acts of love (Galatians 6:2). Although only God's grace enables us to love others, these acts of love for Him, and He promises to reward them with eternal life (Romans 2:6-7, Galatians 6:6-10). Jesus said we should obey his commandments and having faith in Him is not enough. "Why call me Lord, Lord, but things do not I?" (Luke 6:46, Matt. 7:21-23, 19:16-21). "Bible Christians" believe that salvation comes from faith alone.
Catholics believe that the salvation to be attained, must be received by faith and sustained by good works and participation in the sacraments. "Bible Christians", on the other hand, I believe that all Christians, regardless of how they live, have an absolute guarantee of salvation, once they accept Jesus in their hearts as their Lord and Savior. "Christians should accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but not the maintenance concept of salvation through good works is contrary to the Christian Bible and the constant teaching. "If we died with him [in baptism, see Rom. 6:3-4] we shall also live with him, if we persevere we shall also reign with him. "If you do not persevere, we will not reign with him. With this, Christians can lose the sky. (CIC 1861). Yet Paul writes, "See then the goodness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but God's goodness to you, provided they remain in their goodness, otherwise it will be cut off" (Rom. 11:22 -23; Mat. 18:21-35, 1 Cor. 15:1-2, 2 Pet. 2:20-21). Paul insists on an important condition, provided they remain in his kindness. Christians can lose their salvation. Another warning: "Whoever thinks he is safe must be careful not to fall" (1 Cor. 10:11-12).
With all this said, my Protestant brothers and sisters, the teachings of the Catholic Church is based in Scripture and in Sacred Tradition. It is the one true Church established by Christ. It has the four marks of the true Church. The Church is one (Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor 10:17, 12:13, CCC 813-822), Holy (Eph. 5:25-27, Rev. 19:7-8, CCC 823-829), CATHOLIC (Matthew 28:19-20, Rev. 5:9-10, CCC 830-856) and Apostolic (Eph. 2:19-20, CCC 857-865). The Catholic Church is praying for his return home to Rome. To my Catholic brothers and sisters, let us all know our faith, live our faith, spread our faith and defend our faith.
