Who was the Catholic priest who conducted a long Camping To Protect Native Americans of the abuse?

There were several priests who went to extremes to save the native populations. Any idea of what lived in the area?
Which first came to mind for me was Bartolomé de las Casas, who was an early advocate of the Indians during the conquest.
