Why do Catholics call Mary Santísima When Jesus said it in Luke 11:27?

Luke 11:27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd shouted, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."
28He answered: "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
As they call her virgin still thougth the Bible even says she had sex? I think that only Christ is worthy of our attention.

  1. full gospel shirley says:

Catholics feel the need to look to Mary and call her blessed, in an attempt to honor as the mother of Jesus. I guess the thought is there, but it is not biblical at all. Only Jesus was perfect, and just pray to Jesus and follow our example. Undoubtedly, we are pleased that Mary made what was called in to give birth to Jesus, so it never disrepsect it. She is his mother, but arent in a pedatal her to pray with him, worship, and call your perfect. Only Jesus was perfect
Mary is going to have other children, so no one can say that she remained a virgin. PPL say whatever they want to drive their point of origin to try to proove their false beliefs, and give credibility> We must forgive and pray that God reveals the truth about all things.
However, we know that Mary is not worship, nor any other person. Its only going to give Jesus our loyalty,
Allows only pray for others in other religions that they will come to know the whole truth before Jesus comes again.
speak the truth, to live without fear or compromise, but does not allow the hatred for what they believe. We simply do not know yet, but if everyone kept praying.
Happy B / day before Jesus, and remind him to hold every day.
Not a day reserved for him. Every day is yours.
      Amen.
Thans big question for the microphone.

    Hi,
I agree. Catholics worship Mary to pray for her, and seeking his guidance. This is not scriptural or ordained by God. That puts Catholics in a bad position by the practice of idolatry. Have difficulty seeing this as a problem, but not in writing it would be tolerated by God.

  4. larissa says:

The verse you have given to Mary as not refute Beng blessed.

  5. sparki77 says:

Jesus said that Mary was not blessed.
Think about it, please. Mary did hear the word of God and obey it? YES. Read Luke 1, if you're not sure about that.
Thus, Jesus is saying, "Not only because she gave birth to bless me - bless her because she heard the word of God and obeyed, which is something that you and everyone else can too."
We agree that Catholics only Christ is fully deserving of our attention. But Mary points the way to Christ. Mary is and always has been the first Christian, the first to believe in Jesus, the first to receive the Holy Spirit, the first set in his life for Christ (you know how many women died in childbirth at that time?). Mary shows us how to become more like Christ, and that makes it worth at least a little attention - not a substitute for Christ, but as a means to learn more about him.
Also, the Bible never, never, never, never said that Mary had sex. Find a verse to support their extravagant claims! There is absolutely no verse that says that Joseph had sex with Mary, though there are other verses that say other couples had sex (David and Bathsheba come to mind). The Bible only says categorically that Jose does not have sexual relations with Mary before Jesus was born and is completely silent on the subject later. Mary is cited as giving birth to any children other than Jesus. The "brothers and sisters" are not listed with their ages, so we do not know how old they are. Tradition says they were all older than Jesus, Joseph was one more man who is widowed. Or could have been adopted - with a life expectancy rate of young people, there were a lot of orphans out there. The fact of the matter is that there is no evidence, biblical or otherwise, who had sex with Mary and Joseph she gave birth to any children other than Jesus.
      EDITED TO ADD:
We suggest you read Matthew 1:24,25, as if I had never done before. Here's what it says (NIV):
"When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took Mary home as his wife."
Did the angel tell Joseph to have sex with Mary? No. Does it say Joseph took Mary home to be your wife? No. It says "as his wife. Care to interpret this?
      Continuing with verse 25:
"But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. "
Everything he says is that Joseph does not have sexual relations with Mary until she gave birth. It says what happens afterwards.
"Up" means "to the point." This does not mean "to the point, but not after. In this case, I will prove to you the Book.
2 Sam 6:23, "Michale daughter of Saul had no children until his death."
In its reasoning, Michale had children after the date of his death. But we all know this is not yet possible.
You're thinking like a 21st century America. Mary and Joseph were 1st century Jews. God's presence among the people was incredible and something sacred. Read the Old Testament to learn how the Jewish people responded to the presence of God. Moses veiled face of God and held in custody. David at the time, just touching the Ark of the Covenant without proper purification meant instant death. Priest would not dare to enter the Holy Place of the Tabernacle without elaborate purification.
You seem to think that Joseph did not know it. You seem to think that Joseph did not realize that Mary's womb is the new Ark of the Covenant, the new Holy of Holies. Since we know that is an honorable man fearing God, is completely incomprehensible to forget all that and try Mary's womb as if it were no big deal.
You need more study. You have a serious lack of understanding of biblical times and culture.

  6. Sldgman says:

Jesus is not saying that Mary is not blessed. As Mary heard the Word of God and obey him, Affirming that Jesus is His mother has been blessed.
The Bible tells us that Jesus had brothers and sisters, but the Gospel of James tells us that these brothers and sisters were fathered by Joseph from a previous marriage.
If only Christ deserves your full attention, then the marriage would be prohibited because the care of a spouse is taken care of Christ.

Why not start at the beginning of Luke?
If Mary was a virgin and she is called blessed.

  11. Daver says:

    Virgin Mary is always
Exodus 13:2,12 - Jesus, who is sometimes called the "first-born son of Mary. But "first born" is a common Jewish expression meaning the first child to open the womb. It has nothing to do with children's mother.
Exodus 34:20 - under the Mosaic Law, the "first-born son had to be sanctified. "First born" status does not require a "second" born.
Ezekiel. 44:2 - Ezekiel prophesies that no one passing through the gateway through which the Lord entered the world. This is a prophecy of the perpetual virginity of Mary. Mary remained a virgin before, during and after the birth of Jesus.
Mark 6:3 - Jesus was always referred to as the "son of Mary, not" a "son of Mary. Also "brothers" in theory could have been children of Joseph who was a previous marriage dissolved by death. However, it is likely, perhaps most true, that Joseph was a virgin, as were Jesus and Mary. As such, it embodies the true Holy Family, totally devoted to God.
Luke 1:31,34 - the angel tells Mary that "will" design (using the future tense). Mary told her: "How is it possible?" Mary's response demonstrates that she had taken a vow of virginity for life because they have no intention of having sex with a man. If Mary had no such vow of lifelong virginity, her question would make no sense at all (so we can assume he knew how to conceive a child). She was a virgin consecrated as the church was an acceptable custom of the time.
Luke 2:41-51 - in a quest to find Jesus, and Him in the temple, there is never any mention of other siblings.
John 7:3-4, Mark 3:21 - we see that the young "brothers" were advising Jesus. But this would have been very disrespectful to devout Jews if they were biological brothers of Jesus.
John 19:26-27 - Jesus would have been unthinkable to commit the care of his mother to a friend if he had siblings.
John 19:25 - The following verses show that James and Joseph are Jesus' brothers and not their cousins: Mary, the wife of Cleophas is the sister of the Virgin Mary.
Matt. 27:61, 28:1 - including Matthew refers to Mary, the wife of Cleophas as "the other Mary."
Matt. 27:56, Mark 15:47 - Mary the wife of Cleophas is the mother of James and Joseph.
Mark 6:3 - James and Joseph are called "brothers" of Jesus. Therefore, James and Joseph are Jesus' cousins.
Matt. 10:3 - also called James the son of Alphaeus. " This does not disprove that James is the son of Cleophas. The name may be for Alpheus Cleophas Aramaic or Greek name was James and Saul (Paul), and Mary remarried a man named Alphaeus.
Jesus' "brothers" (adelphoi)) = Cousins or Kinsmen
Luke 1:36 - Elizabeth is a relative of Mary. Some Bibles translate kinswoman as "cousin", but this is an improper translation because in Hebrew and Aramaic, there is no word for "cousin."
Luke 22:32 - Jesus tells Peter to strengthen his "brothers." In this case, it is clear to see Jesus "brothers" to refer to the other apostles, not his biological brothers.
Acts 1:12-15 - the reunion of Jesus "brothers" amounts to about 120. That's a lot of "brothers." Half brother relatives in Hebrew.
Acts 7:26, 11:1, 13:15,38, 15:3,23,32, 28:17,21 - these are some of many examples where "brethren" does not mean that the relationship of blood .
Rom. 9:3 - Paul uses "brethren" and "family" interchangeably. "Brothers" of Jesus does not prove Mary had other children.
Gen. 11:26-28 - Lot is the nephew of Abraham ( "anepsios") / Gen. 13:8, 14:14,16 - Lot is called Abraham's brother (Adelphe). This shows that despite a Greek word for cousin is "anepsios" Scripture also uses "Adelphe" to describe a cousin.
Gen. 29:15 - Laban calls Jacob is "brother" even though Jacob is his nephew. Again, this shows that the brother or cousin media relations.
Deut. 23:7, 1 Chron. 15:5-18, Jer. 34:9, Neh. 5:7 - "brethren" means relatives. Hebrew and Aramaic have no word for "cousin."
2 Sam. 1:26, 1 Kings 9:13, 20:32 - here we see that "brethren" can even be an unrelated (not blood), as a friend.
2 Kings 10:13-14 - King Ahaziah of 42 "brothers" were actually their relatives.
1 Chron. 23:21-22 - Eleazar's daughters married their "brethren" who were actually cousins.
Neh. 4:14; 5:1,5,8,10,14 - these are examples of "brothers", which means "cousins" or "relatives."
Tobit 5:11 - Tobías Azarias asked to identify himself and his people, but still calls him "brother."
Amos 1: 9 - brotherhood can also mean an ally (where there is no blood).
Misunderstanding about Matthew 1:25 (Joseph knew "until you")
Matt. 1:25 - this verse says Joseph knew "until they (HEOS" in Greek) "she was a child. Some Protestants argue that this shows the relationship with Jose Maria after she had a son. This is a misreading of the text because "not until" does not mean "not until after …". "HEOS" refers to the past, never the future. However, not until she had a son means "not to the point that" she had a son. This confirms that Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus. Here are other texts that show that "not until" means "not to the extent that:
Matt. 28:29 - I am with you until the end of the world. " This does not mean that Jesus is not with us after the end of the world.
Luke 1:80 - John in the desert until his manifestation to Israel. "John was not in the desert until after" his manifestation.
Luke 2:37 - Anna was a widow "to the extent that was eighty-four years. She was a widow after eighty-four years.
Luke 20:43 - Jesus said, "take your seat next to me until I have your toes to your enemies." Jesus is not going to require the apostles to sit at his left hand after their enemies are their feet.
1 Tim. 4:13 - "to the point where I come," attend to teaching and preaching. This does not mean do nothing "until after" I come.
Gen. 8:7 - the raven flew back and forth "to the point" [until] the waters of the dry land. The raven did not start flying after the waters dried.
Gen. 28:15 - the Lord will not leave Jacob "up to the point that" he does His promise. This does not mean that the Lord will leave Jacob later.
Deut. 34:6 - but "to the point today," nobody knows Moses burial. This does not mean that the place did not know until today. "
2 Sam. 6:23 - Saul was the daughter of Micah children "so far" [until] her death. She was not with the child after his death.
1 macc. 5:54 - no one was killed "to the point" in peace again. They were killed after they returned in peace.
Misunderstanding about Romans 3:23 ( "All have sinned")
Rom. 3:23 - Some Protestants use this verse "all have sinned" in an attempt to prove that Mary was with sin. But "all have sinned" only means that they are subject to original sin. Mary was saved from original sin by God, not herself. The popular analogy is that God let us fall into the puddle of mud, and cleaned after us through baptism. In the case of Mary, God will not let her into the puddle of mud.
Rom. 3:23 - "all have sinned" also refers to those which are capable of committing sin. This is not the whole world. For example, infants, the retarded and the senile can not sin.
Rom. 3:23 - Finally, "all have sinned, but Jesus must be an exception to this rule. This means that Mary can also be an exception. Note that the Greek word for all is "pants".
1 Cor. 15:22 - all in Adam ( "participants") have died, all in Christ ( "participants") are living. This shows that "all" does not mean "everyone." This is because not all have died (as Enoch and Elijah were taken up to heaven), and not all go to heaven (because Jesus said so).
Rom. 5:12 - Paul says that death spread to all ( "pants") males. Again, this shows that "all" does not mean "everyone" because the death did not spread to all men (as we have seen with Enoch and Elijah).
Rom. 5:19 - Paul says here, "many (not all) were made sinners." Paul uses "polloi," not "pants". Paul is contradicting what he said in Rome. 3:23? Of course not. Paul means that they are all subject to original sin, but not rejecting God.
Rom. 3:10-11 - Protestants also use this verse to prove that all humans are sinners, and therefore Mary must be sinful. But see Psalm 14, which is the basis of the verse.
Psalm 14 - This psalm does not teach that all human beings are sinners. Just shows that among the poor, all are sinners. Still looking for the righteous God.
Psalm 53:1-3 - "there is none that does good" refers specifically to those who have fallen away. Those who remain faithful to do good, and Jesus calls these people loyal "good."
Luke 18:19 - Jesus said, "No one is good but God alone." But then Matt. 12:35, Jesus says "The good man of his good treasure …" So Jesus said that no one is good but God, and then calls another good person.
Rom. 9:11 - God distinguished between Jacob and Esau in the womb, before his sin. Maria also is distinguished from the rest of humanity in the womb by God to be saved from original sin.
Luke 1:47 - Mary calls God her Savior. Some Protestants use this to denigrate Mary. Why? Of course God is Mary's Savior! Was released from original sin in the womb (unlike us who are freed from sin outside the womb), but I needed a savior as the rest of humanity.
Luke 1:48 - Mary humbly calls itself. But any creature is humble before God. For example, in Mat. 11:29, Jesus says that even humble of heart. Humility is a sign of humility, which is the greatest virtue of holiness, because it allows us to empty ourselves and receive the grace of God to change our sinful life.
      Misunderstanding about Jesus' rebuke Mary
Matt. 12:48, Mark 3:33, Luke 8:21 - when Jesus asks, "Who are my mother and brothers and sisters?" Some Protestants argue that Jesus is rebuking Mary in order to denigrate it. On the contrary, when Jesus remarks are read in light of Luke 8:5-15 and the parable of the sower Jesus taught just prior to his question, Jesus is actually implying that Mary has already received word as sower of the good land and is paying off. Jesus is teaching others to be like Mary, also receive the word and obey it.
Matt. 12:48, Mark 3:33, Luke 8:21 - Jesus' question about "who are my mother and sisters and brothers" are also made in reference to Psalm 69:8-9. Prophet Jesus was responding to the prophecy of the psalmist that the closest he would be betraying his passion. Jesus is emphasizing the importance of the spiritual family in the biological family, and the importance of being faithful to him. While many were unfaithful to Jesus, Mary remained faithful to him, until the point where they are at the foot of the Cross.
Matt. 12:48, Mark 3:33, Luke 8:21 - Finally, they argue that Jesus rebuked Mary is holding that Jesus violated the Torah, in this case, the 4th commandment. This argument is blasphemous, because it essentially says that God by sin dishonoring his mother.
Luke 11:28 - Jesus says: "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it," some protesters also call this a rebuke of Mary. Again, by contrast, Jesus is the exaltation of Mary, with an emphasis on obedience to the Word of God as more important than her biological role of the mother. Luke 1:48 says this.
Luke 11:28 - Also, the Greek word for "no" is "menounge. Menounge really means "yes, but also" or "More." Thus, Jesus is saying, if my mother is blessed indeed, but even more blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Jesus is encouraging others to follow the example of Mary to build his kingdom.
Luke 11:27-28 - Finally, Jesus is the one that was praised, not Mary. Therefore, Jesus is the focus of it to others who obey the word of God. If He is to focus attention away from him to others, your comment can not be a reprimand from his mother Mary.
John 2:4 - this is another example of the Protestants use to diminish the importance of Mary. Jesus' question to Mary, "you have to do with me?" No such thing. Rather, the question of Jesus shows the importance of Mary's role in the kingdom. Jesus' question is actually an invitation to his mother to intercede on behalf of all believers and begin his ministry, and his mother understands. Mary intercedes for this, Jesus responds to her, and performed the miracle began his ministry of redemption.
Luke 8:28 - Jesus the demons say the same thing, "you have to do with us." The demons are not rebuke Jesus, because God does not allow it. However, the demons recognized Jesus by the power of your question to him.
John 2:4, 19:26 - When Jesus uses the title "woman" (gnyai), is a title of dignity and respect. It's the equivalent of Lady or Lady. Jesus honored as the Mother of God compels us to do.

Because 1. It's in the Bible - Mary said that "all generations will call me blessed" after the greeting of Elizabeth to her.
      2. Mary, indeed, hear the word of God and obeyed, as it is covered for that reason, too.
(That's all from a biblical, not my own perspective)
      Luke 1:46-55:
      My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
he has looked with favor on your humble servant.
      **************************************…
      From this day all generations will call me blessed;

He has mercy on those who fear him,
      from generation to generation.

and scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones
      and lift up the lowly.
That filled the hungry with good
and sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his servant Israel,
to remember his promise of mercy,
The promise made to our ancestors,
      Abraham and his children forever.

  13. Father K ™ says:

The Hail Mary, traditionally known as the Hail Mary prayer is biblical. In the first half, the words are straight from the Gospel of Luke, while the second half shows what this might mean for us Christians to pray in the Body of Christ, pondering these things in our hearts.
The account of the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she has to be the mother of our Savior is familiar to all Christians. Here we find the first elements of the Ave Maria. The angel are the words of "Hail, O favored one" (Luke 1:28 KJV), or as Jerome led the 4th-century Latin edition, "full of grace."
As for your other rubbish, including Martin Luther and John Calvin Mary confessed that "ever virgin." You may want to actually have a kind of Church History.
      Mary is ever virgin!
Exodus 13:2,12 - Jesus, who is sometimes called the "first-born son of Mary. But "first born" is a common Jewish expression meaning the first child to open the womb. It has nothing to do with children's mother.

  14. gilliami says:

Mary is certainly blessed with its proximity and relationship with our Lord Jesus. The point is that Jesus is not a cult because of the grace of God in it. We reserve our worship to God and Him alone.
      I hope that helps.

  15. Born-Again Catholic says:

This is called proof-text - eisegesis, or lifting a verse of Scripture and shoehorning in what you want to say.
Could turn this into a battle with the verses of Luke 1:48, "all generations will call me blessed." But I will not.
Mary is "worthy of our attention, not for who he is, but because of what Christ did on it. Or have never praised God for his work in other people's lives?

  16. Michael H says:

The move to refer to it does not say that is not blessed. Rather, it indicates that your blessing is due to do the will of God that her motherhood of Jesus. We refer to it as blessed, because the Scripture teaches us that: "From this day all generations will call me blessed." (Luke 1:48)
As for her virginity, nowhere in Scripture refers to his having intercourse. If you are talking about the part about the sisters and brothers, the word used for brothers and sisters in the original Greek word is used for all the family, not just the brothers and sisters. One of the brothers mentioned elsewhere referred to as a mother of Mary, it is evident that Mary was the mother of all it offers. They were probably cousins of Jesus. Also in the 1st century Palestine, when a woman is a widow was customary for her to live with her son. When Jesus died, if there were other sons or daughters who have lived with one of them. But Jesus came to live with John, because he was caring for her since she had no other children to live with. So in reality the support of the Scriptures is stronger than anything else her virginity.
