Because most of the responses received show here, mostly due to ignorance of the Catholic faith.
When a person is that a certain group of people who are poor, they are told to stay away from that group. So when a Catholic is not being raised as Catholics worship idols, they tend to think that without any investigation.
We do exactly what they do when they ask a fellow believer to pray for them, unless we ask the saints and Mary to pray for us.
If they say what good is it for you to pray for a dead person you refer to this writing, Mark 12:26-27
"As for the dead are raised, you have not read the book of Moses in the passage about the bush, how God told him: I am the God of Abraham, (the) God of Isaac, and (the ) God of Jacob '? He is not of God but of the living dead. You are very misled. "
So when I ask a saint to pray for me, which is asking for a servant of God to pray for me. When I ask Mary to pray for me, so you understand. Perhaps the best way to win the favor of the Son is asking for his mother.

So people without adequate education about the Church believe these half truths.
Well, do not worship saints and Mary. Rather than ask for help to talk to God.
They act as a common link between man and God's heart.
Honor these people and that is something completely different religion.
You may have to do with how to define religion. It may not make a distinction between worship and reverence.
Because we Catholics believe the Virgin and the Saints are truly a saint. Mary would not have without Jeses. And by the way, the Blessed Mother, Mary, Queen of all saints. Read the Bible. They are an important part of the entire Catholic religion. The next time you have a problem / tragedy in his life, praying to Mary or any saint. Why pray for the people, not God.

when I became a Christian for about 4 years studied with some Catholics … that there were some very screwy inturpetations (sp?) of the Bible. And he said that some things are as they are traditionally not the Bible. I thought it was far.

It seems that when Catholics pray to the holy religion, as it is to pray to someone other than God. I never understood why Catholics do until I asked my mother in law (who was raised Catholic and converted to another religion later). The way I understand is that Catholics are trying to saints for help or favors. (If I got it wrong, please feel free to correct me with a comment).
I do not agree with the prayer to the saints, but I will not let anyone do it. People find God in the best way they know how. Who am I to decide what is best for them?
Catholic churches are full of St Mary and statues and pictures. Also, several Catholic saints have in their yards, and St. Mary of their collars. Even gang members have tattoos Mary Catholic in their backs.
It gives us no one else to pray to God through - but - Jesus Christ!
Do you understand that what we * do not consider or "cult" - is irrelevant. Only God feels - is relevant.
You may think that only shows
"respect" for the lives that have resulted when kneeling before a stone statue in a church, saying prayers or someone else other than Jesus Christ, but even close disciple of Jesus, the apostle John, was reprimanded by an angel in Revelation, chapter 19, verse 10, when he did exactly the same! He thought it was just respect!
But as the angel who led worship!
Even what he said "do not do that! .. Worship God! "
As Christians we are called to "walk by faith not by sight!"
To use images in worship, in the mind of God, is idolatry - a sin so grave - Israel was punished repeatedly by her prostitution.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS state: (Deut.5 :6-21)
"Do not make an idol for you in the way of anything (even Jesus or anyone else for that matter!) Up in heaven or on earth .. You shall not bow down or worship them. "

because they are known to do so. although I believe only to be a Christian now, and nothing else, I can remember as a child of a real Catholic, and really did pray to the statues and images and said the Hail Mary with all these balls have asked for a rosary. and perhaps not all Catholics do / did, but that's what I think most Catholics do not follow up today. AWEFUL I feel now, knowing that I use to pray to Mary in fact a human being like me, thinking it was like God / Jesus. Of course you know God, then, forgive me for this, but I am still sick sometimes, knowing that I use to do that, but it was all I knew to do at that time because that is how the Catholic Church taught me and others. it is important to know the truth and make a commitment to change and do the right thing … I've been doing since then. if people choose to remain ignorant and proud to continue praying and whorshipping mary, or statues or pictures or whatever in place of God, our Father, then will be held accountable for that in the eyes of God. means that God is idol whorshipping and how angry and jealous of him and that I, for one, do not want God mad at me.
