Catholics. Why pray to Mary? She is dead. Do you not think that God must be the only one Praying For You?

What the issue of prayer to Mary or anyone else besides God? We never told in the Bible if nobody in heaven can hear us. We know that only God is omniscient, omnipotent, and all those present. Even the angels, with great skills whatever they may have, appear to have limitations and can not always do to help we might like (Daniel 10:10-14). When Jesus taught his disciples to pray, He gave them what is commonly called the "Our Father." He teaches us to address our prayer to God. Whenever the prayer is addressed to anyone, it is God! Never can find a single example of anyone praying to any "holy" or angel or any other person (apart from the prayers to false gods). In addition, any time that any pious person prostrate itself (in a religious establishment) to honor someone else apart from God (especially the apostles or angels), he was told to get up to put an end to it (Acts 10:25 — 26, Acts 14:13-16, Matthew 4:10, Revelation 19:10, Revelation 22:8-9). The Roman Catholic Church affirms that love God, but that "worships" Mary and the saints. What is the difference? A person praying the rosary, spend more time announcing to Mary that God! For every one to praise God in the Rosary, 10 praises of Mary!
  God Bless!

  1. Reverend K says:

Are you a Christian? If so, you know that the key lesson: God is a God of the living.
Trillian, are you a Catholic or an atheist who likes Mary? It appears that this was not because one of his 3-point is based on Catholic doctrine. They are really a flagrant contradiction to the true Catholic doctrine.

  2. 2hearts says:

not pray to Mary, but you must pray for us, we can only pray to God. also do the same with the saints, because those good role models of our faith. I also recall that Mary gave birth to Jesus, Mary Jesus being Gods son loved a lot, and when Mary would ask a favor of his son Jesus would do, Catholics believe that if we ask Mary to pray for us so that we can keep praying his son Jesus Christ.

  3. Charley B says:

Christians believe that Jesus conquered death and sin. The Blessed Virgin Mary and other saints are alive and well in heaven.
We share the view of Catholics in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief that all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When it dies and goes to heaven, do not let this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
As part of this family, you can ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you can also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to the saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
Ask others to pray for you if your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.
And I even began to discuss the saints as models that he said "Yes!" God.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 946 et seq: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1s
      With love in Christ.

She is the Queen of Heaven "It's good to see a female / mother aspect of God. Mary and All Saints is prayed for certain things such as animals of San Francisco is an example. There is a "go to" holy to many types of prayers. They represent him.

  5. aliciama says:

Prayer is not the same as worship.
      To pray means to ask.
We ask Mary to pray for us too, because we believe that God does not reject a request from his mother.
Remains the only God we worship.
EDIT: The Apostle's Creed, which reads the Communion of Saints. That is all who live in the Body of Christ. Do you believe in heaven. Are you dead in heaven? No. You are alive. That is why we can hear our prayers and pray for us. Santa Maria or a request is no different than asking a friend or relative of a sentence.
Edit2: When most Protestants say "pray" means to worship. That is what I assumed he meant.
Now back to your other question: is fair to ask more people, basically, to pray for you. These people, being closer to God, it seems a logical choice.

  6. Ms. Swan SFECU says:

God is a bearded old man who was adored by angels while sitting on a throne of gold.
It is powerful and imposing, and unknowable.
Jesus is a bearded young man who is worshiped by other men.
He is strong and perfect and unknowable.
Mary is a woman like me ….
She is human … like me.
She is delicate and imperfect, like me.
If she trusts God to keep her son
I trust her to keep my prayers.

  7. Trillion says:

if your worship of God, then I think we can pray to any of the saints that you want.
perhaps as a human being who gave birth to Christ our Savior.
mothered and nurtured her and was also a virgin.
      she is also a saint.
so why not pray to her?
      perhaps a womanly inspiration.
looking for my grandmother with her.
and she is a great idol
not to be adored, but to pray with her, I see nothing wrong.
prayer is a good thing. :)

  8. bloop says:

    We pray to Mary, because:
      (a) She is not dead - Jesus promised to all who believe in Him will receive eternal life and that became more apparent. Read Luke 1 if you doubt it.
      (b) set up Jesus as our intercessor in John 2.
      (c) * * We are praying to God … we are asking to pray with us and for us.
