Does Anybody ELSE think there is a difference between Christianity and Catholicism?

I am a Christian, not Catholic. I pray to God, not Mother Mary. Why do atheists believe that Christianity and Catholicism is the same? Safe use of Bibles similar but that does not mean it is the same religion.

  1. Mr. Derp!!! says:

You and your example of Christian hatred and bigotry are real nice.
The implied superiority complexes hate yet.
Check the find button. This has been asked many times.
I was raised Catholic (not more), and holy crap do other denominations who have a sure hate to hang on to them.
The casual indifference to the Catholic Church has for his brand of zombie-cult is something that can be learned.

I was not just a picture.
All Catholics are Christians. Not all Christians are Catholics.
      1. Non-Catholics pray to Mary. Showing their great ignorance that single statement, and listening to the Protestant propaganda instead of seeking their own knowledge.
      2. Before the Protestant Reformation, Christians were just Catholics.
      3. The Protestant Bible is identical is identical to the Catholic, except that it excludes the deuterocanonical books whose authenticity was questioned by the Jewish authorities. The Catholic Church chose to keep their value because of instruction on moral issues.
      4. I feel very sorry for your church has chosen to dismiss 1400 years of tradition that puts the Church of Christ in its historical context. The Protestant Reformation was correct in his analysis of certain religious practices that have become corrupt and needed reform, but the rejection of the entire history of the tradition of Christianity, especially the primacy of the pope conferred upon Peter and his successors, I fear which has thrown the baby with the bathwater.

  3. darksphy says:

Catholicism is Christianity. All other Christian religions broke from the Catholic religion long ago. Now this does not mean that any of them less Christian then the other, is simply the reason why some people think that is the same.
View all started with a man named Martin Luther (not Martin Luther King Jr said that I have a dream, but one of Martin Luther). Noticed a lot of ills and problems within the church, which has led to the creation of the Lutheran religion. This happened after award others followed the example of the creation of many Christian religions.
Think of it this way, the leader of their religion (in fact I do not know), but I know that the Pope is Catholic.
Now, if you want to get real technical, Catholics and Muslims broke the Jews, and to create something different then the Jews did.

  4. Ms. Swan SFECU says:

There are differences, but we are still Christians. You are a Protestant, I am Catholic. Both Protestants and Catholics are part of Christendom. In fact, Catholics were the first Christians. In any case, the Protestants, to be non-Christians. Who are Christians, but if I were to say that Christians are not Catholics.
Who clearly know nothing of the Catholic faith, for his clarity of thought that the cult of Mary.

  5. Cajunboy says:

There are huge differences between Christianity and Catholicism? And there are also many similarities. In my opinion, the Catholic Religion bases many of its laws and beliefs of the 6 books that are not in the Bible and serving the Old Testament more than what they see in Christianity. But there are also many Christians in the Catholic religion, as many feel the same way as I do, and leaving the Catholic Religion as individuals.

  6. bikernoj says:

For me, belief in the Christian God = Christianity, no matter how you slice it.
Protestants, Baptists, Episcopalians, Lutherans and Catholics are the same for me. You all believe in God does not exist. His argument is trying to make me understand that his imaginary friend is totally different from your neighbor's imaginary friend, when in fact they are both imaginary, and therefore cares?

  7. Bufo says:

Catholicism is Christianity and in honor of Mary in the Bible. Try looking in the Gospel of Luke. Not in honor of Mary began after the start of reform. Martin Luther died with a rosary in his hand. There is some truth to yourself even if your only comment beliefs dating back 400 years Catholic Christianity dates back to almost 2,000. Perhaps we were not the same religion.
Think about it and start reading about the history of the Church. I look forward to welcoming you to the Catholic Church.

  8. heiscomi says:

There are many differences between what Christians and Catholic Christians believe what Christians believe.
However, you should ask this. About 75 to 80 percent of people in the U.S. say they are Christian. If that is true, this nation is getting closer to God, not farther away. This nation would get better and not worse.
What we are saying is that most so-called Christians are Christians in this nation of words, but their hearts are far from God.
Now, back to the issue of hand. Catholics believe, once baptized in the church who are Christians.
The true faith or true Christians believe that a man must be born again to enter the kingdom of God.
I have asked this question many Catholics about being born again. Can describe, but still can not understand it.
That get caught in what the church believes as a Christian and ignore what the Word of God says that being a Christian.

  9. Jack says:

Catholic Christians are faithful to the Church founded by Christ and the apostles. It is the Church of Christ with the promise of a Church which can never bear to fall into apostasy. It is said in Scripture that the Church, the Catholic Church is the pillar and ground of truth.
Protestant Christians and other non-Catholic Christians attend churches that are man-made and are in protest of the Church founded by Christ and the apostles. Contain some truth mixed in with their doctrines of men, but lack the fullness of truth contained in His Church.
Protestant Christians make the same mistake as the Jews and Muslims. They want a religion of the book. In fact, real Christianity is a religion of the Word and the Word is Jesus Christ, who lived life instead of writing a book.
As Jews, Muslims, Protestants and Christians have learned, people can read a book all you please. The teachings of the Word of God has entrusted to a living Church, the faithful Christians who proclaim the Word in ever new words and to say no to the false teachings of the revisionists.
Some Protestants - particularly evangelical or fundamentalist types - seem to enjoy the dissemination of falsehoods about the Catholics.

  10. cool b says:

Catholics are not Christians. For a worship idols. View the many idols in the Catholic Church. Books were added to the Bible. I think the pope is the harlot riding a beast again that the Bible speaks, the False Prophet. There are so many differences. This site has extensive information about the Catholics … http://www.carm.org/catholic/saved.htmhttp://www.carm.org/catholic.htm

  11. Deus caritas est says:

If you study church history, you discover that the Catholic Church was the first church and the apostolic succession can claim directly to Christ and St. Peter. The other names of "Christianity" came later.
Why do atheists believe that Christianity and Catholicism are the same? In addition to misinformation, will call an atheist All religions the same.
With regard to the similar use of Christian Bibles, which again is considerably out in their research. An example: Catholic Bibles are very different from the Protestants of what they call the "Apocrypha."
      Read on:
Cardinal James Gibbons, archbishop of Baltimore, on September 1, 1899.
Pope Damasus assembled the first list of books of the Bible in 382 AD The Roman commissioned St. Jerome to translate the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin, which became known as the Latin Vulgate Bible and was declared by the Church to be the only authentic version in 1546.
Douay-Rheims New Testament was first published by the English College in Rheims in 1582 AD The DR Old Testament was first published by the English College at Douay in 1609 AD The first King James version was not published until 1611. RD contains 73 books, including seven deuteric-canonical books (erroneously called Apocrypha by Protestants). These seven books were included in the 1611 KJV, but not later in KJV Bibles.
St. Jerome believed deuteric-seven canonical books not to be inspired by God, but he was commissioned by Pope Damasus to translate all 73 books in Latin. Pope Damasus believe the 7 DC books to be inspired by God. Later, in 1946, after the discovery of the dead-sea scrolls, it was discovered that these 7 DC books were used by Jews in Alexandria, even in their services. This verifies that Pope Damasus was correct.
It is interesting to note that the Palestinian Jews did not accept the 7 DC books to his version of Scripture, nor will accept any of the New Testament. Unfortunately, the Protestants base their Bible in this version that comes from people who do not accept Jesus as the Messiah.

    DRINKS *
OMGoodness !!!!!!!!! How is this hilarious ……….
You see Catholics are the original Christians. Martin Luther became angry at the church and ended up breaking away from the Catholic church, which means you actually came to us ………..
      and for you who said:
here is a clear difference. I mean, how can they ignore so much writing?
Catholics that the Bible together, not Protestants. In fact Martin Luther removed 7 books of the Bible. Now tell me about ignoring the Scriptures ….

  13. Conservative Christian says:

Catholicism is the original Christianity, but later came around to Martin Luther and the Protestant and Catholic reformation.I I ask the Mother of Jesus more Mary.I sometimes they get confused and think that the love of our Savior over Mary . I've never heard of a church that says "Christian Church" on it.It usually say "Catholic, Lutheran, Pentecostal," etc.. And if they are the same religion, but do different things.

  14. SxySpark says:

I'm Atheist and I know they are certainly different … the thing is that I do not think it makes sense that no religion, regardless of whether one of many that is … This is part of the reason for atheism … is a little hard to take when yous start arguing among urselves …

  15. Misty says:

It can be a Christian and a non-Catholic, which makes you a Protestant. But Catholics are Christians, indeed the early Christians.
Much of what you believe to be formed within the Catholic Church. The Trinity, for example, is a doctrine that is not specifically in the Bible, and decreed by the Catholic Church. The Bible also … is not in the Bible is a collection of books given by the Catholic Church, the inspired Word of God. You base your belief that the Bible is the Word of God under the authority of the Catholic Church … like it or not.
Catholics pray to God and pray to Jesus. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God sent to die for our sins and that salvation can only be through him. We ask Mary to pray for us, and you do, like asking a friend to pray for you. Is no different, and nothing unbiblical about it.
You sound like you believe all the anti-Catholic things you've heard and have never bothered to find out the truth. That is your choice, but do not assume you know what Catholics believe and do weak because of information and misrepresentation.

  16. Delusions of grandeur says:

It seems my bothers and sisters in the Word.
Fit all of your knowledge about the Catholics in a bumper sticker with space left over for the Magna Carter
I've seen in many posts that my brothers and sisters in the word, and my pastor, and have said that the council of Nicea, where the Bible was created by Emperor Constantine, and Constantine started the Catholic Church. I was told that the Catholic Church did not put the Bible in a book and it was the early church pastors and ministers before 100 AD, was told that Catholics did not exist before the Emperor Constantine, but when I go to find various encyclopedias list whatever. http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_7615 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianit … …
Even say that this alleged Catholic St. Ignatius (35-107), the second bishop of Antioch wrote a letter to the Smyrneans in 107 AD. This letter is the first recorded use of the words "Catholic Church" … How can this be. How or why my brothers and sisters in Christ for all of us are. How can I continue to believe my fellow bible believers if they are. His writing is one can use to build my faith that says that lying is wrong … .. http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_7615

  17. SpiritRo says:

    Barf.
that's like saying "what is the difference between Americans and U.S. citizens?" The name predates the Christian evangelical community for over a millennium, as the word Bible, and Trinidad.
I have a big problem with any organization that says "Catholics are not Christians," because they are ignoring the history of Christianity. Some of those who advance this theory, spend a lot of effort pulling Vatican statements out of context. Saying that there are Christians who think they can get around Jesus' call to Christian unity (John 13:34).
Catholic Bible protected through the centuries of wars, famines, plaques, the fall of Rome, the fires, and threats from all sides. This was long before there was any other name. And the Catholic Church decided which books to include in the Bible at the Synod of Hippo (393 AD) and confirmed in Carthage (397 AD). The non-Catholic scholar Peter Flint, who translated the Dead Sea Scrolls, says that there is no Bible until 397, when the Catholic Church infallibly decided on what books belong there. Before that there are hundreds of letters and the Septuagint.
Even the word Bible is not in the Bible. Which was coined by the Catholics. That means the books of the Greek word βυβλος Byblos, meaning "papyrus", from the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos which exported papyrus, the "role" of the day. We love the Bible. Honest!
Some say that evangelicals have a direct connection to the early church of the early centuries that bypasses Catholicism. If so, I believe that the beliefs of modern evangelical beliefs that reflect the early church. However, any time devoted to the study of the Fathers of the Church make it clear that the early Christian beliefs were Catholic. Fathers of the Church believes in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the honor of Mary, has produced the ceremonies, prayed for the dead, respect for the Church hierarchy, baptized babies, as acknowledged by Peter the Rock, built on the Church successors followed him and a rich tradition of Christianity. That was the early days of Christianity and the Catholic Church is today. Since the apostles, century after century, Catholics who died for Christ's message to reach the nations. Yes, we are Christians.
Whether or not someone agrees with Catholic doctrine is his prerogative. But all those who look to history to admit that Catholics are Christians. "Nobody can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:3)

  18. Dr. Jones says:

Catholicism is a type of Christianity, among others. Of course you can have a personal definition of what Christianity is more than the main-steam. But if we use a main stream, are Christians.

  19. dulcrayo says:

Catholicism is Christianity, as is Baptist, Methodist, Christian and so is the term used to describe the form of religion that believes in God and Jesus.

  20. Boris says:

Is defined as Christianity is the offspring of the Catholic religion. Not Catholicism, no other Christian denominations.

  21. hallowee says:

you are wrong, and all views in the world does not change the fact that Catholics are Christians. is one of many sects of Christianity.

  22. RU4 real? says:

A matter of semantics. God does not care what name someone subscribed? The sky is full of believers, and no matter what name came from the believers.

  23. WeAreAll says:

You realize that Catholicism is the root of most modern chrtistianity?
on the basis of your question, I suspect that most atheists more about Catholicism and Christianity than you.

  24. CNL says:

Mmm … perhaps because it is. Catholicism is the origin of Christianity to my friend … then came other names … why they are called "Protestant denominations" … Catholics protested against ^ _ ^

  25. Michael says:

Christianity will benefit from access to Heaven through the Lord Jesus Christ.
If you are rich enough, Catholicism could get an audience with the Pope.

  26. joshsy says:

It is really hypocritical to call the Catholic Church "unchristian."
You can disagree all you want, BTU Christians can not call other non-Christians.

  27. John Lemon says:

Catholicism is Christianity. Christianity is original.

  28. avomatic says:

Catholicism is the Christian church as ordained by Saint Peter to Jesus, all other Protestant churches are churches made to serve the hearing of their creators.

  29. Michael K says:

:: Facepalm:: Catholicism is a Christian branch of the tree and not another tree by himself.

  30. Pastor Art (((SFECU))) says:

    They are quite correct.
Christians read their Bibles and learn.
For Christians, the Bible is the authority.
For the Catholic, the Pope is the authority.
      Big difference.

  31. Rylee ;) says:

I think its different bcuz that praying to Mother Mary and She is not God. I think it is a kind of false idol worship.
      But im not a judge.
