How does one become a Catholic priest?
I have a dilemma. I am a man of 34 years of age who has spent 15 years of my life in jail. I am Catholic, but my memory of Catholic religious observence is very thin. I have tattoos all over and I have been living at the transition since leaving prison. I am unemployed, having had a lot of difficulties in obtaining a stable job and been forced to work in work rooms. After much consideration, I decided that I want to be a priest and returned to society and the Church, but with my situation and background, I am not even sure this is possible, and if so, I do not know where to start. Can someone Halper me?

Contact the office of vocations for the diocese. It will answer all your questions.

About being a priest
Catholic Diocese of Dallas
Start with your Diocesan Vocations Director.
Believe me, if you call the Diocese and tell them you are discerning a vocation, you will get in touch with the right man!
Read the story of the Father. John Corrapi …. had a very sordid life before he became a priest. You can get the tape for free catholicity.com
If you have a college degree, you will need 2 years of philosophy and 4 years of seminary before ordination. Catholic priests are the best educated ministers around!
You really have to have a recommendation from a priest in good standing with the church. The best we could do is develop a relationship with your local priest and let him know what you want to help you prepare. Tattoos or have a criminal record should not disqualify you.
I will ring his doorbell and run!
I doubt this. You should go to a church and find out the applications and I know it is not an easy task. You have to go through many tests to know that this is her vocation.
I do not know about the tattoos.
go ask a priest, have a lot of things for you to go through and may not be a priest, can be a deacon.
1) Go to Mass every Sunday for the next year. No excuses. Being in the Church. Not even consider taking additional measures to Holy Orders, until that year is up. Be faithful in their delivery. See if the priest in your parish needs any help on the altar. Serving as an acolyte if you can.
2) Talk to a priest and an envelope as your Father confessor. Make your sacramental confession at least every 30 days.
3) Find out what steps are needed in his diocese to become a deacon. The diaconate is the first step toward the priesthood.
4) You're not too old to go to the seminar. I was 38 when I returned. It took me four years of painstaking study and prayer and prayer and study. Do not be surprised if the diocese insists on an education seminar. The scholarships are available if you really think you have a vocation.
5) However, this first step … be in the bank and goes to Mass every Sunday and days of obligation for one year … this is crucial. If you can not do it for a year - who have no chance of ever even considered the priesthood. Priesthood is servant-hood. You are your own ever again … you belong to Christ.
Good luck and God bless.
treat the tats should not be a problem and if not murder someone who should not be a problem (if there is still a long way but it is a procedure of Rome). Contact your diocesan vocation office
