How many of my colleagues have known Catholic priests who can speak fluent Latin?

I've met only a few, and were older. The Latin Church is letting die? What is the common language used in the caucuses? And what do you think of the revival of Latin as a global language, at least for Catholics? (The priests that I mentioned could speak conversational Latin - quite surprising).

I have met few, if you're talking about America - where you can sit and talk. And they were very old, and it was the German and very traditional. Members of a small German monastic order called the Society of the Divine Word. I would be very excited about the development of Latin as a language for Catholics worldwide. Jews have done in Hebrew. It is the first step in creating a truly Catholic culture. I do not know if they used caucuses.

A better question is how many Catholics understand Latin?
Recently, the pope came out and said that he would like to see more of the old traditional Latin masses. better to go through a Latin dictionary.
BTW, I did not know that Christ spoke Latin.

For the first poster. . . I speak Latin very well and am only a Catholic Convert - go figure.
As for America being a "revive" the language, I think it would be great, no need to translate the documents of Vatican in multiple languages, a better understanding of language in general (many with Latin roots).
I know several (4 or 5) that the priests may well speak Latin and several religious brothers and sisters that make it even better.

I heard they are bringing the Latin Mass back. They, of course, still maintain the English Mass, too. When I was still Catholic, my husband took me to mass. He asked: "When beginning to speak English? I replied "ones in about an hour." I always thought that the Latin Mass was beautiful and would love to attend one again.

All I know is that in his last 30 years. But Latin is still taught in all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit. we use the Latin for the Agnus Dei, and maybe a couple of other sentences, but in general is Polish or English (because of my ethnicity). ii really want to actually might have learned Latin instead of just a few prayers and the Hail Mary.

  10. Father K ™ says:

I served Mass for a priest to celebrate Latin Mass in my old church. He is my Father Confessor. He is not bad … that can make the Mass and talk a little. English is used in most of the caucuses … but I think we are still documents written in Latin
