Why are Catholics So Angry About Abortion, but not as outraged by the sexual abuse of children by priests?

I feel that people on both oppose abortion, they should, with the same fervor, speak out against pedophilia. Where are the banner waving Catholic parishes where known to have suspected pedophile priests celebrate mass?

  1. Karenita EWTN ((Allecat)) says:

I am equally outraged by both. However, some priests and nuns ill / people do not have all the horrible Catholic Church

  2. Grand Master Mystic says:

We are outraged that some people, but suspect that a priest is a pedophile does not mean they are. It is like killing me now and saying, "I thought he was a serial murderer."
Furthermore, approximately 3% of Catholic priests in the U.S. from 1950 - 2000 suspected pedophile …
      EXTRACT (third source):
Nearly half of pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of those are terminated by abortion [1]. Twenty-two percent of all pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion [2].
      • Forty percent of pregnancies among white women, 69% among blacks and 54% were unwanted among Hispanics.
      • In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed, compared to 1.31 million in 2000. From 1973 to 2005, more than 45 million legal abortions occurred [2].
      • Each year, about two percent of women 15-44 years of age have an abortion, 47% of them have had at least one previous abortion. [3]

<<Why They are so outraged about the católicos, but abortion, not as outraged by the sexual abuse of children by priests?>>
Catholics are angry about the clergy sex scandal.
<<I That just feel so much like people who oppose abortion, with should, the same fervor, speak against pedophilia.>>
Why? Pedophilia is already recognized in society as immoral and, therefore, be regarded as a criminal act.
Abortion is not considered that the crime is. That's why most Catholics outraged abortion.
<<Where plate is shaken when he knows that Catholic parishes have priests suspected of pedophilia hold mass?>>
The Mass is a time to worship God, not about waving banners.

  4. True says:

Expected for most Catholics, but there are a lot of pastors in Protestant churches that bother children. There are pedophiles everywhere, not just the Catholic church. In fact, in addition, I have learned in a religion class that Catholics are not really opposed to abortion. Would prefer that not happen, but it's not like a huuuge deal. It is still the people who take things out of context and just assume that people feel this way.

  5. deepcow says:

You do not think that Catholics are not sick by the thought of pedophilia? Many churches have been closed because they did not step foot in Catholic again after it discovered what was going on with pedophile priests. I think pedophilia as a disease and evil as abortion and not go near a church that allows or tolerates well.

  6. skepsis says:

In my experience, rank and file Catholics are very upset about the scandal of clerical sexual abuse, in part due to its intrinsic evil, partly because of its coast to the Church, and in part because of the shame that brings to the Church. Virtually all dioceses and provinces house (at least in the United States) now requires criminal background checks on each regular priest, a member of staff and lay volunteers who come into contact with vulnerable populations, in addition to policies that prevent situations compromising. Whenever an allegation of abuse is made against a priest, is suspended from duty until such time, if the claim is discredited. All this was not only a legal responsibility but by secular outrage at the bishops previous lax response.
But there are some Catholics who see the entire scandal as a conspiracy to damage outside the Church, and many of them are rabidly pro-life. " What can I say? We have our share of the Kooks. Catholic laity have no voice in diocesan personnel policies. But they know to protest against an abortion clinic. Therefore, they do what they can. Moreover, why these people want to draw public attention to their internal problems?

  7. Misty says:

We are outraged by pedophiles, but just so you know there are fewer Catholic priests to bother children, and Protestant ministers. In fact, 10% of Protestant pastors have been convicted of pedophilia, compared with 1.7% of Catholic priests. This fact can be found in the book:
Pedophiles and Priests: Anatomy of a Contemporary Crisis by Philip Jenkins, professor of History and Religious Studies at Penn State University.http: / / http://www.amazon.com / pedophile priests …
The abortion is murder. More than 50,000,000 people have been killed by abortion in the 30 + years has been legal. The abortion and child sexual abuse are horrible. There is no / o, we must all work to stop them.
Furthermore, there is no suspicion of known pedophiles celebrating mass. All those who were accused are in jail, dead, or were found not guilty. Any priest who was convicted of child sexual abuse was removed from the priesthood.

  8. answer4y says:

    Mimi … you are generalizing.
I am Catholic, and indeed, I am outraged by the sexual abuse of innocent children by a handful of Catholic priests. I am totally against the incidents and I think that priests should have everything coming to them as permitted by law. In the end, the real punishment will come from God.
However, just because a handful of men fell away from what we take note of the lessons. We taught the teachings of God. As such, I always put my faith in the teachings and not men, because men can fail. But at the same time, the actions of the few do not represent the whole. This is why I remain a Catholic … because the lessons are valid.
      Example:
A math teacher, which teaches 2 +2 = 4 for more than 25 years, fell a day to harass a student. Is it worth coming to him by the law? ABSOLUTELY! Will change the fact that 2 +2 = 4? No. .. lessons are still valid … is the man who fell.
Thus, with the abortion, the teaching is that it is wrong to kill. Therefore, education is still, as the abortion is murder.
      God bless

  9. Cheeseca says:

Well, first of all who responded … if you like … "is a * and a hole.
Apart from that, certainly outraged by our priests, men who are confident and we have made, there is evidence that pedophiles. However, it is not just Catholics.
** Many thanks to who is the coward that gave me a thumbs down .*

  10. Mad Dog says:

Only a pedophile because he has seen on television became a Catholic priest, does not mean they are all pedophiles. How many Catholics who have personally known pedophiles? I believe that these assumptions are stupid, and I'm not Catholic. With your logic, if they see me on TV a black who kills someone, which means that black people are murderers. That said, it is unethical to prosecute a group of people for the actions of one person being "prejudice".

  11. VeggieTart (The Cranky Agnostic) says:

    I. There is a history of Brazil that had my blood boiling. In short: a woman raped at nine years of her daughter. The girl ended up pregnant with twins. Doctors said they probably would not survive the pregnancy. Mom organized an abortion to save the life of his daughter. Mom and the doctors were excommunicated, because the rapist was not apparently in the Catholic Church, the violation is not as bad as having a life abortion.http: / / au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/53750 …

  12. Josh A says:

because you do not want to pursue their own and if the pastor apologizes to his god has forgiven him for what it is really fun, but an abortionist apologized if I think of it as fleeing the Vatican did not 12 years old she was raped by her stepfather and was having twins, but were aborted because his life was in danger in their sick world we live in today, i not only tend to be as sick as most of our leaders in the world, unfortunately, are the majority of patients such as potato

  13. Carl says:

It's not like the parishioners have chosen to priests of the church returned to the church instead of being prosecuted. If one of the priests of my church molested a child, I'm pretty sure that would be lynched before police could get to it (sad but true).

  14. Much Better says:

There is much indignation in the Church in this regard. But no more pedophiles in the church after being in different places. The only difference is that people in the church have more power to abuse, and more ability to be captured too.

  15. Sophie says:

The abortion is good because then the child does not have to live their lives in a crappy orphanage. And the girl. Perhaps only the priests will help you to think and to tell the gods or something …
      Hope i helped ….

  16. Gorgeoustx Please send rain! says:

Given that less than 1% of Catholic clergy has been involved in pedophilia.
I have no figures, but in America, how many Catholic girls have an abortion every day?
      * Pro-choice

  17. Sldgman says:

There is outrage. Our outrage is directed to the bishop and the offending priest was removed from the parish. This has happened many, many times. It is simply not dramatic enough for the press, so it is ignored.
