Why do Catholics believe that Mary was a virgin?

Are there signs that say it did? Honestly, why her? If she was already married, would not have been a sin, right? Procreation is not the point of marriage?
You grab your holy than any other woman just because God came out of it? For a very holy person, biological, within the bonds of marriage?

Matthew 1:24-25 "Then Joseph was raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took him to his wife: And knew not until he had got his first son, and called his name Jesus" ;.
In short marriage was not consummated until after the birth of Christ, but was consummated.

if it wouldnt be strange that the use of the word "snatch" when he said that "it is to snatch his holy than any other woman" … For me, being disrespectful, I do not know if you are a believe it or not, but respect is all that is asked. I do not know whether or not there is a way to be honest, but this is my opinion on it. When you experience such a thing as 1) a visit of an angel announcing that God chose for your child, 2) have to choose God, 3) give birth to the Son of God, everything else seems pointless. You see life in another sense, for some people sex is a necessity, for others it is not necessary. Otherwordly She saw something and, therefore, did not give the temporary pleasures. She saw the bigger picture, yes, she was married, but so what?
Edit: Sorry for taking so long to respond, after answering this question, answers and other 2 i went to bed. As Doug said well, your purpose in life is fufill, she was not an ordinary human, his aim was to bring in the life of Jesus. Their mission was to fufill a half after Jesus was born, and he said: "Blessed are you among women, once they gave birth to Jesus not only was the mother of our Lord, but our mother. is not a sin to have sex in marriage withint in this period or that one, but sex is only the land, told me when she saw the bigger picture that was required meant spiritually and this is when the angle comfirmed announced his being chosen as the vessel of God. Wanstead's just a normal human, remember that she was born without sin. I hope this clarified my statement. Once again apologies for the delay.

Catholics believe that Mary remained a virgin, because that is what the apostles and early Christians believed and really, that's what all Christians believed until the last century or so, when some American Protestants who wanted to be decided as non-Catholics as possible.
There are no verses that say they had sex with Mary and Joseph that Mary gave birth to any children other than Jesus. Therefore, there are no signs that say that Mary did not remain a virgin.
Why it is still a virgin? Well, we should study the Old Testament for his response. Joseph and Mary were not 21st century Christians, like you and me - were the first-century Jews. Was a Jew of what happened with Mary. His belly became the New Ark of the Covenant, a holy place that no mere mortal could upload and handled as if not more. So Joseph, a man of God who have voluntarily stayed away from sexual self-Mary for that reason alone.
Would not have been a sin of Mary and Joseph to have sex as a married couple, but neither would have been a sin to refrain voluntarily from sex in the recognition of the miracles God did through the body of Mary and her faith Jesus truly is the Son of God who first inhabited the earth through her womb.
Procreation is an important part of marriage, but couples are free to enter the votes of celibacy when it is an appropriate way to bring glory to God, as had been for Mary and Joseph.
Yes, your body is more holy than any other woman, because Jesus was born of her. Again, read the Old Testament and try to think like a century instead of a more privileged Jewish 21st century American Christian who thinks that sex is merely a biological function and not a sacred act that imitates God the Creator .

It is a question of holiness, a matter of respect and a genuine issue of church teachings, from the beginning.
Once devoted to God, sacred vessels are never permitted to be used for any purpose profane … and thanks to Jesus … Mary became the most sacred "vessel" of all time.
Those who knew Jesus and Mary knew the whole truth of the matter, and everything that could have been confused about who had become clear perfetly, at Pentecost.
Mary was created for a high and sacred purpose, and dedicated to God, much more than the original Ark of the Covenant and the temples were Jersusalem.
No one dared to even touch the ship, under penalty of death … while only the high priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holys in the Temple … and Jesus, our High Priest in heaven … is the only one who ever entered or left the blessed womb of Mary.
There is much more on this, but I doubt you would understand.

Because it was a very good liar to get out of the Jesus thing.

  6. ms. dork says:

We follow the oral tradition and the Scripture, because of what is in 2 Thessalonians 2:15: Stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that are taught, either through an oral statement or a letter from us.
O in 1 Corinthians 11:2: "I praise you because they remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditions, just as I handed them to you.
Apostolic Tradition is important to us.

  7. Daver says:

Catholics believe Mary is ever virgin, because it is a biblical truth:
Exodus 13:2,12 - Jesus, who is sometimes called the "first-born son of Mary. But "first born" is a common Jewish expression meaning the first child to open the womb. It has nothing to do with children's mother.
Exodus 34:20 - under the Mosaic Law, the "first-born son had to be sanctified. "First born" status does not require a "second" born.
Ezekiel. 44:2 - Ezekiel prophesies that no one passing through the gateway through which the Lord entered the world. This is a prophecy of the perpetual virginity of Mary. Mary remained a virgin before, during and after the birth of Jesus.
Mark 6:3 - Jesus was always referred to as the "son of Mary, not" a "son of Mary. Also "brothers" in theory could have been children of Joseph who was a previous marriage dissolved by death. However, it is likely, perhaps most true, that Joseph was a virgin, as were Jesus and Mary. As such, it embodies the true Holy Family, totally devoted to God.
Luke 1:31,34 - the angel tells Mary that "will" design (using the future tense). Mary told her: "How is it possible?" Mary's response demonstrates that she had taken a vow of virginity for life because they have no intention of having sex with a man. If Mary had no such vow of lifelong virginity, her question would make no sense at all (so we can assume he knew how to conceive a child). She was a virgin consecrated as the church was an acceptable custom of the time.
Luke 2:41-51 - in a quest to find Jesus, and Him in the temple, there is never any mention of other siblings.
John 7:3-4, Mark 3:21 - we see that the young "brothers" were advising Jesus. But this would have been very disrespectful to devout Jews if they were biological brothers of Jesus.
John 19:26-27 - Jesus would have been unthinkable to commit the care of his mother to a friend if he had siblings.
John 19:25 - The following verses show that James and Joseph are Jesus' brothers and not their cousins: Mary, the wife of Cleophas is the sister of the Virgin Mary.
Matt. 27:61, 28:1 - including Matthew refers to Mary, the wife of Cleophas as "the other Mary."
Matt. 27:56, Mark 15:47 - Mary the wife of Cleophas is the mother of James and Joseph.
Mark 6:3 - James and Joseph are called "brothers" of Jesus. Therefore, James and Joseph are Jesus' cousins.
Matt. 10:3 - also called James the son of Alphaeus. " This does not disprove that James is the son of Cleophas. The name may be for Alpheus Cleophas Aramaic or Greek name was James and Saul (Paul), and Mary remarried a man named Alphaeus.

I do not get good Jesus had other siblings, or half sibs, if you will.

  9. cmatthew says:

After the Council Nemasea where in the Bible books have been chosen, the other books is known as the Gnostic text. In the books is that Christ had siblings but were not discussed by the story of the saint.

  10. Locket says:

The other day some Catholic girl here actually said that Mary was a virgin, and Jesus had cesarean delivery.
Yeah, I guess Joseph struck only his knife and went to work on poor Mary!
In fact, Mary had other children besides Jesus.
But I'm not Catholic, so perhaps that is why this idea seems so outlandish to me.

  11. faith says:

Mary remained a virgin until after Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph, but then did not consummate their marriage and together they had four sons and three daughters before Joseph died.

  12. Chantel J says:

Mary is just a nickname for her. Jesus had brothers, so we know that it was not a virgin forever.

  13. Blue-Eyed Christian says:

I do not know, but they are wrong. The Bible says that Joseph "did not know until after he was born, implying that anything he did, in fact, accomplished things at some point after birth. Besides, Jesus had many brothers and they have not only PIV then. Obviously there is some generation passes!

  14. paula r says:

  15. Jessica B says:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and have a son and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14, KJV).
Mary could not understand how they could give birth to "know" her husband, ie, having sex union. This is the meaning here and in Matt. Ginosko of 1:25. That did not happen between Joseph and Mary "to" Jesus was born (Matthew 1:25).

  16. Q says:

I thought you were not a virgin - was only a virgin at the time of conception. But not later - didn't Jesus' brothers?

  17. zach says:

Catholics, at least some are naive. Jesus had brothers, so it was not a virgin forever.

  18. gumby says:

Does it really matter that Catholics believe that? Who cares? Let them believe what they want.

  19. lilmissykato DOF says:

Because being a virgin is pure, pure being is to be clean in a holy way, though not a sin to have sex with her husband, who wishes to remain a virgin. Since Joseph had been married and has understood, that allowed it.

  20. boywholi says:

Human beings do not give birth without the participation of men and women. His fiction

  21. Vajradha says:

If it just means lazy, which is still considered a virgin?
