Biden will be excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church for its stance on Abortion and gay marriage?

The reason I ask is because someone told me in his response to one of my other questions … I do not know about Catholicism. So of course my references were checked and found:
Bologna, Italy, March 13, 2007 - Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday strongly reaffirmed the church's opposition to abortion, euthanasia and gay marriage, saying that Catholic politicians were "especially" the obligation to defend the beliefs of the church in their public duties.
"These values are not negotiable," the pope wrote in a 130-page "apostolic exhortation," a distillation of opinion from a worldwide meeting of bishops at the Vatican in 2005.
"Consequently, Catholic politicians and legislators, conscious of their grave responsibility before society, must feel particularly bound, on the basis of a properly formed conscience, to introduce laws inspired by values based in human nature."
Since Biden is a professed devout Catholic does not mean he is opposed to the doctrines of the Church, and as such would be declared "anathema"?

In general terms, how many people do what they actually follow the religion they swear they are dedicated to …?
A simple example from everyday life: Roman Catholic Church is strongly against the methods of birth control, but 86% of Italian (in Italy) who profess to be Catholics say they do not agree with the Church on the issue .
And I can think of hundreds of similar examples, but those same people who still claim to be "Catholic."
The same applies to all religions, basically.
I agree with you on that. However, today an excommunication is "handled with caution and regarded as a very serious issue and that may in any way endanger the Church and its authority. Some examples can be searched and are Emmanule miling Marcel Lefebvre.

I do not think she hates all Catholics, it is fair to wonder about the hypocrisy of calling yourself a "devout Roman Catholic," but support the killing of unborn children. By the same token, if Obama said he was Muslim, but ate ham sandwiches, do not you question your faith?
(I, for one, would love to put an end to speculation Muslim doing just that. Taking a bite from a big slice of pork.)

  3. Old Mister Happy says:

Frankly, why would that be different than for any of the Roman Catholics in Congress. None of them have been ex-communicated because of their votes? I think not. Congress makes the laws that you know, although the President has the power to veto if it reaches him.
The Pope does not seem to exert a great deal of political power in the government of the United States in the last 40 or 50 years.

    Excellent!
      "anathema" is correct!
… and its operation is a mate "heretic" who had supported the corruption of the gospel of Christ for 20 years!
TUCC is a Marxist political-social "gospel" that is not only heretical, but the supremacy!
The blasphemy of its senior pastor Jeremiah Wright are simply icing on the cake!

no cause it doesn't support abortion or gay marriage …. its just doesn't want to impose their will on others … unlike the Republicans who believe in freedom of choice and let ppl decide for themselves.

  8. Deep Thinkin' Dude says:

Biden has already had 2 get archbishops in their case about it, with them saying something along the lines of, "Biden does not speak of the Catholic Church."

  9. NONAME says:

Do not know a lot about the Catholic religion, but not just confess to a priest and say his Ave Maria, and all will be forgiven.

I am Catholic. The answer is no, that should not and will not be. Catholicism is broader than all wayed in practice if not in theory.

The only thing that matters is that Biden is excommunicated from the office of Vice President.

  15. imacatho says:

This option is being discussed for any politician to support abortion.
Someone can be a bad Catholic and "pro-choice."
This is particularly detrimental when it comes to people of influence, as politicians, who by their direct influence others unduly to the "culture of death" instead of "consistent ethic of life."
Politically support the abortion is not an offense for which one can be excommunicated, but a change in this rule is being discussed.
The Church is right Canon 915: Those who are excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops statement "Catholics in political life," says:
Therefore, like every Catholic generation before us, we must be guided by the words of St. Paul, "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way of being guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord "(1 Cor 11:27).
And that continues up to each bishop in his diocese and in one case by case basis whether or not to deny Holy Communion to Catholic politicians because of their public support for abortion.
