Is an old practice in which a Catholic prayers are symbolized by a burning candle to embody prayer. My dad, in my view, put it best when he said that as a child, if the candle is burned, while God was working in his prayer.
The candles themselves are not to be something special … in most churches are not expensive. Prayer is that they signify that they are important. As has been said, this is a tradition for Hispanic and Spanish that the practice of prayer candles at home, hence why they sold in stores sometims.
There are no restrictions on who can light candles and prayers, whether in church or at home. The usual practice is to make a small donation to deduct the cost of the candle, but it is not necessary, especially for those who can not afford it. A simple prayer to God or whether you would like a saint to intercede on his behalf is sufficient.
As far as I now, are prayer candles, a lamp, say a prayer or something. Espescially popular among Mexicans. Rather gawdy or looking for evil, in fact, I have always thought.

I use them in my prayers, sometimes. I light, and then pray, and let it burn until I go to sleep.
I've seen in the statues and church events, but I do not know why people use them, or how often.
Besides, I do not know if these are only for Catholics, I am sure anyone can buy.
It is not rude to seek knowledge. I wish I knew more. I will learn with you, it seems:)

Catholics are known for lighting "votive candles before the statues of saints and images that symbolize the continuity of their sentences. It is a convenience of having a shrine of candles and everything in order to maintain a home.
The majority of the Spanish culture that uses candles and Catholicism, but most are used to perpetuate any prayers to be said whose picture is on the sail. It's a nice gesture.
usually light when we pray for something, but there are some people who use them only as an item to put on their shelves with a good image on it.
Those were all in San Antonio. I think you just recorded as a regular candle, but as the images.
People use a lot in vigils or memorials when someone dies somewhere in the street …
Those who are ill. God never said anything about it in the Bible. And Mary is the mother of God. Not God. Why do people give their glory, if Jesus is the one that makes miracles? its all about God who is Jesus
How can you be so narrow minded ?!?!? These candles are not for Catholics! Mexicans are for!
