Druid priests were back in time - Way Back?
Druids were the educated class of ancient Celtic culture. These cultures were in force for more than a millennium before the birth of Christ (and the beginning of Christianity). The Gauls (Keltoi) dismissed pagan Rome in 387 BC, but within a few centuries, the Romans began to occupy the territories that destroyed the Celtic and Druidic sanctuary on the island of Mon (Anglesey) in 40 AD. Christianity was introduced in Ireland in 400 AD. Roman domination of Britain ended in 410. During the Roman occupation, probably turned some people while the majority of the priests resisted. The same is true of the introduction of Christianity. However, this was long after the beginning of the Celtic culture in our view, and after Roman rule and had very few (if any) left Druids. Unfortunately, the Druids were a taboo to write things related to their religion, so have no first-hand sources. The only sources we have are those that conquered the Druids.
Therefore, it is safe to say that since the existence of the Celtic culture over 1000 years before the birth of Christ, which from that time until the Roman occupation, they practiced their indigenous way of life. Between the time of Roman occupation and the introduction of Christianity in May some of their practices have been combined with the pagan practices of the Romans (who also have shared practices with the Northern). And if there are any druids left, you may have converted to Christianity after 400 AD.
This is a very good article about the druids and their history: http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articl …
For very good academic information about the Celts, I recommend anything written by Barry Cunliffe.
I hope this helps.
