How are Catholics wrong if Christians were the first recording of the Church?
I do not understand how some Christians think that Catholics are not true Christians, or something, if Catholicism was the first. Are the wrong one thousand and some years?
To my knowledge, the only reason why Protestantism and all other sects occurred because the Vatican is greedy. You have to pay money to have their sins forgiven. But as far as I know it has been abolished.

At a basic level, Catholics are Christians. There should be no doubt about that. Not mentioned in the Bible at all so any reference to them as false religions (insert book of choice) is just a reverse match where someone had read a parable and decided that spoke of the RC church.
One can argue, rightly I think, that the church was not the first sect RC, but rather can trace its origins to the founding members. It was not actually the Council of Nicaea, which cemented the RC church for the next millennium.
That said there are few Arians, Ebionites (etc) remaining, so they can certainly claim to be the oldest Christian church.
With respect to some of the comments of others - Wow. Citing the "reformers" of the 14th century does not imply anything about the Catholic Church principles had been strong since 325. Crucial to the current crop of "fundamentalists" are so different Christian sects that really defies belief. Compare the Celtic Church before the Synod of Whitby, which is now American Baptists. Catholicism can not save. Only by believing in Jesus alone for salvation, is what saves.
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to save and enter heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as payment COMPLETE all our sins, then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what! Salvation is a free gift that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, 1 John 5:13).
