I agree with others, Jeff. Someone, somewhere along the line, is very confused. Just go back to church and make it clear to them that what you are asking for is the recognition of marriage. Congratulations to you and your beloved!

Well, first of all, if not Catholic, why are people trying to respond to something you know nothing?? For us Catholics, marriage is a sacrament. The laws of man are not the same as the laws of the Church! For us, are not even really married in the eyes of God, unless you were married in a Catholic church by a Catholic priest! Yes, you are legally married, but the questioner already knows! He is seeking a sacramental response! Geez ........ And who asked, I think you should be able to obtain a copy of your current license, for which the priest and two witnesses can sign. I do not think you need to reapply for anything. Go to the county court (who married into account) and explain the situation. You do this is not a totally unique thing to do. God bless you and congratulations for making her holy and sacred union in the eyes of our Lord.

Hmmm. There seems no need for it. You are legally married. Should not the priest has his own certificate? For example, I have a certificate of baptism of the Church of the verification of my birth but the birth certificate with the State.

I think not. The reality is that the priest is not actually legally marry you (already married), so there is nothing for him to sign. Everything we do is the blessing of their marriage before God. Never heard of a church trying to evade the law like this.

The Church does not want a new license ... unless you forgot to tell you that you have been married in a civil court. Bring the existing marriage license, and the priest will help you get to validate your current marriage (or "blessed").

Typical bad catechized ordering Novus Ordo. The Novus Ordo has replaced Catholicism. A real priest would never have made this mistake. traditionalmass.org .

No. I think the priest is confused about his situation. It is necessary to explain it. With love in Christ.
