  1. Clare † says:

I feel a follow-up question waiting in the wings …
… But to answer this: Yes. And yes.
Great potatoes, potatoes mediocre pastoral potatoes, potatoes innovative establishment of the popes, Popes Pius, popes corrupt, weak potatoes, potatoes strong, all of them. Right back to Peter. In his question, I guess I also understand that, contrary to popular misconception, papal infallibility does not mean that a pope can not err.

  2. Clare † says:

I do not think any human being is infallible

  3. lynn says:

    Personally, I do not.
The Pope is still a man. The Church is still a creation of man. As such, remain subject to the failures of man.

  4. PoliPino says:

    yes and yes.

  5. Tur B says:

Catholics should. The rest of us.

  6. Earl D says:

When teaching on faith and morals, yes.
That does not mean that the Pope is perfect, or that he can not sin itself.
      Peace be with you.

  7. C says:

Papal infallibility was just made official in 1870, the Church has believed from the time of Saint Peter.
This comes from Jesus' words to Peter (the first Pope) and the apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hear me "(Luke 10:16).
The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible, sometimes narrowly defined.
The Pope is infallible only when, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that doctrine as truth. This is called "ex cathedra", which literally means in Latin "of the chair."
In others the pope can be as bad or sinful as you and I and be in need of forgiveness.

me if you still believe that after the Pope cancels latset limbo are more stupid than I thought that the two can not be right.

  9. Mim says:

I was a Catholic of 15 years before being agnostic. I never thought a human being can be infallible.

  10. Wanderer says:

The Holy Spirit given by Christ himself affirms the infallibility of the teaching of faith and morals, even if the pope is in sin.

  11. Gods child says:

Yes In matters of faith and morals when speaking ex cathedra. This does not happen often! Sinlessness and infallibilty are two different things, but you seem to think you have to go hand in hand with the other.

  12. SigGirl says:

Papal infallibility is only in very specific things and is rarely used, does not apply to everything the pope says or decrees. In fact, the last pope is issued only information that is foolproof to a handful of times.

  13. Michelle R says:

Papal infallibility applies to all the popes since Christ said to Simon Peter, "whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven" and "Take the keys of my kingdom." This charism is the main reason for the unity of the Holy Church of God.
Jesus told us the truth sets us free. Obviously therefore should have provided a means by which we can know with certainty of objective truth. Just as obviously self-reading and interpretation of the Bible is not the media, since those who follow the tradition that the man inevitably fall further and further into the chaos of sectarian doctrine in direct violation of the declared will of God ", that all be one". Jesus knew we can not have truth without unity, we can not have unity without real authority. The authority of the teaching given by Christ to the Apostle Simon, with the guarantee of divine truth which it bears, is the key to Christian unity, and therefore the key to Christian truth.
