His answer lies in your question. The people are excommunicated for heresy, not the sin. Heresy is when someone teaches Catholic doctrine as something that is not Catholic doctrine. If I were to teach that the Catholic Church believes that salvation is by works alone, I would be guilty of heresy.
Hitler never teaches Catholic doctrine as something that was not true. Yes, it was really bad, but never taught heresy.

Just because a Catholic is baptized does not make you one. He was not a practicing Catholic. Do not get up and say he was Catholic and what I was doing well as a Catholic.
The Church excommunicated heretics are people who … this means going against God and / or the Church, while all the Catholics who profess to be true.
Hitler did not do that. Just because someone was baptized Catholic (as many in R & S can attest to) that Catholics do not in any way or form.
As I read, Hitler had Jewish blood in him … and there is no need for the Jewish church to make a statement against Hitler is? To denounce a Jew? I think the same goes for the Catholic Church.
Nobody in their right mind would think that Hitler was never a practicing Catholic and faithful.
