It is unlikely that there is much talk about Catholic married priests, but they exist. First there are the priests who are part of the Eastern Catholic Churches, also known as the Eastern Rite, which can be found in places like the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and other nations along the border between Western Christianity and East. These churches are under the jurisdiction of the Vatican and who recognize papal authority, however, practices and traditions are much more like those of Eastern Orthodox churches, and one of those traditions is to allow priests to marry. They are Catholic priests, and many are married - many, in fact, that some estimates put the number at around 20% of all Catholic priests in the world. This would mean that 20% of all Catholic priests are officially and legally married, despite the fact that celibacy is a prerequisite. But marriage is not limited to priests who are part of the Eastern Catholic Churches - we can find some 100 U.S. Catholic priests who are married and are part of Western Catholicism, that comes to mind when thinking of the majority of the Catholic religion. Why marry? They married while serving as priests of other Christian denominations, usually Anglican or Lutheran churches. If a priest decides that would be better off in Roman Catholicism, can be applied to a local bishop, who has a special request to the Pope, that decisions are made case by case basis. If accepted, it is certainly not expected to be divorced or separated from your spouse, so his wife comes right along too. This exception to the rule of celibacy was established on 22 July 1980. Thus, a Catholic priest who wants to marry now must choose between marriage and the priesthood (even though celibacy is not an essential characteristic of being a priest), while a married Lutheran pastor can apply to become a Catholic priest and maintain his wife - who does not have to choose.

There are Catholic priests from the eastern sect with handcuffs., But not here in the western section. If they came from there, then they can stay married. That's the way it was explained to me once.
