A city does not need to have a cathedral. A cathedral is the principal church of a diocese episcoplalian and where the bishop of the diocese maintains his seat (called a throne). The location of this church becomes a "Ecclestiastical City", as opposed to a "civil city" which, as has been granted a Royal Charter. Some cities also have Ecclestiastical Royal Charter as the City of London. Ecclestiastical some cities, like St. Davids, has a Royal Charter. And some cities with the Royal Charters, because they have the Cathedral, there are cities Ecclestiastical. If each city by Royal Charter were to have a cathedral, then there would be an increase in the number of bishops in the Church of England.

Why there should be a Catholic church in Salford? Why there should be a mosque? Why there should be a cult? Why there should be a statue of Buddha? Or are there still people in Britain who believe the Church of England should be the only state-sponsored church in the country and that everyone should be forced to believe what you believe? My my, we are not illuminated ... For the record, no Catholic cathedrals, churches, and Monesteries throughout Britain and Ireland long before the Church of England came to the scene. Next you'll be complaining about Stonehenge and pagan ...

cathedrls more than that of churches in England for the Catholic ............................. England was predominantly Catholic in a moment of history until King Henry couldnt divorce caused his wife to marry his cousin ................ thats how the Church of England took place. There are 1.1 billion Catholics in the world, actually a little more, you think maybe it's possible that some may be in England? have freedom of worship in England, like other religions there. do not be so shortsighted.

Wow, angry much? I'm with Brendon ... Why should there not be a place of worship of any religion? Just because it's called the Church of England does not mean that England must have the religions. Maybe you should diversify and actually enter the Roman Catholic Cathedral.

It's pretty simple. There are Catholics in England, so the Cathedral is filled a need. There are Anglicans in the Vatican, as an Anglican church would be futile. lost.eu/21618

Uh, Britain has a long way since the Spanish Inquisition and all that. I have seen Catholics in England, on many occasions. Where do you think go to church? Not in a C of E church is safe.

1) England was Catholic for over 1000 years before Protestantism. 2) Vatican City is very small. When the Papal States existed, houses of worship were not Catholic.

There are Catholic cathedrals around the world. One in my hometown. For the reason that there are Catholics who attend these cathedrals around the world as well. Just breathing slower and overcome.

If you live in Salford then why bother having a Catholic cathedral, of course, unless you are an anti-Catholic bigot.
