Jesus packed the role of Pope. The Pope is the senior pastor of more than 1.1 billion Catholic Christians, the direct successor of Simon Peter. John 21:15-17 says: When they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. He said: "Feed my lambs." Then he told a second time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" He said, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. He said: "Feed my sheep." He said the third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was concerned that she had told him a third time, "Do you love me?" And he said " Lord you know everything You know I love you. "(Jesus) said," Feed my sheep. Matthew 16:17-19 says: Jesus said in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this, but my heavenly Father. And I say that you are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven ". The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the entire herd. Main functions include the Pope's teaching, sanctifying and governing. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 880-882: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1s ... With love in Christ.

The Pope is a step higher than a cardinal who is one step higher than a bishop. He is the leader of the Catholic Church. No Catholic should worship him as a Catholic not only to worship Mary or any saint. The purpose is to guide you in your life of faith. Teaching the best way to live your life the same way Jesus did. It also helps defend the defenseless and poor, the hungry, the unborn.

This is probably a question that Martin Luther asked the Pope. And, of course, have not liked Mr. Luther the pope. Bible study does not point to a man being in charge of the church of our Lord on this earth, no matter how dedicated you can or can not be.

Have you read the Bible? Jesus appointed Peter head of the Church, he gave Peter the authority to bind and loose, the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Why would he do all that if the authority was not necessary? To understand, you need to look in the Old Testament and how God deals with His people. Moses was given the law. September God Moses up as the infallible leader and his spokesman. Moses was sitting in the chair "and the Bible says people lined up from dawn to dusk for trial. Moses had the authority to interpret God's law and its rulings are binding. God gave this authority. There is always a "leader" in the Old Testament. Although the people had the right and the scriptures, anyone personally interpreted. God always gave them a person who had the authority to govern. Jesus tells his disciples that he who sits in the chair of Moses "has the authority of Moses. He tells his disciples "to do what he says, but not to copy their lifestyle." In other words, his authority is binding, but that does not mean everything he does is perfect and that should follow. God always uses fallible sinful men to carry out their infallible judgments and decrees (ie, Abraham, Noah, Moses, David). Jesus recognized the authority and tells his followers to submit to that authority. Then Jesus gives Peter the keys of the kingdom, made Peter the head of the Church, and gives the authority of Moses --- to bind and loose, open and close. Jesus gives his own authority to Peter and tells him that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church. The office of the pope is the sign of the greatness of God and the promise to be with us until the return of Christ. He is the Vicar of Christ, and has a responsibility to lead the faithful. We therefore have the Pope. And the authority and power that God gave Moses passed the old covenant, so we have the power and authority Jesus gave Peter, also transmitted to his successors. It all makes sense when they are busy trying to prove it wrong, but the twist and cherry picking verses from the Bible.

The Pope is a priest. For example, the commandment "murder" include abortion? Contraception? The death penalty? Who can answer that question for members of the church? The Pope answers this question for Catholics.

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and he acts as the leader of the faithful, with Jesus who is the head of the Catholic Church. The Pope is the highest ranking member of the Catholic Church ordained. His responsibilities include oversight of all decisions made by the Catholic Church, protection of the deposit of faith and finding that the mission of the Church on earth is being carried out. In all other respects, is a man, liable to sin, and even if no misfortune in your office or from the basic virtues. Not much different then the head of any other large organization .. CEO .. President .. whatever ..
