Why do not the Catholic Church abuse cases reported to the authorities?
In my country, Ireland, there have been many cases of many of the horrible sexual abuse involving Catholic priests.
While I accept this was done by a minority, I can not accept that despite the above (bishops and superiors) know what was happening, but never reported the cases to the police. But these priests were simply moved to different parishes were caused more suffering to the innocent children.
It was only when many of these children grew up and have the courage to discuss these monsters were evil brought to justce.
Why do you think that the bishops priests never informed the police involved?
Do you think that these bishops should also be arrested for not reporting these monsters?
Finally, if the onus is on the top, ie the Pope, how can we take seriously and respect the advice of a man whose organization protects pedophiles from the law?

I think the Catholic Church sees itself as an entity separate from the civil law and society. It exists within her, but not necessarily convinced that it is its object. Not that is beyond the law, but sees itself as self-sustaining and a law unto itself. This means, feel they have the right to judge the acts of misconduct by themselves, and allocate adequate punishments on their own. Therefore, having a priest raised in civil charges would be equivalent to that charged twice for the same offense, by two different courts. They believe that his court is sufficient for the crimes committed by clergy.

I live in Ireland too, I know excatly what you mean, I do not think it would just be a great thing if priests were allowed to marry … although it has been happening for centuries, and I suppose that could account only get away with it, but now these days are not as more people are talking. But it is the same for all, not going to be someone somewhere who think they can get away with it so you can try your luck. And most people because they do not demonstrate that says says says says, etc. So it is usually fought out and the victim is a "liar" by … It is so terrible that many rape victims can not put their attackers behind bars because the system is not made for the victim and who is wrong. For the same reason, child abuse within a family is rarely reported: keep it in the family. Do not wash your dirty linen in public. We can handle this ourselves.

1 lets be honest the Pope would have no way of knowing about individual priests unless someone told him about them and that is unlikely. As the bishops were just moving around priests who had problems of pedophilia are also responsible for what happened. This has been a very sad topic has been happening for generations and somehow these people realized that it could become priests and just do what I wanted. I hope the Catholic Church in the future needs more time to learn about their priests before letting them be around children.
Everyone who was involved should be arrested and put in jail …. but that will never happen.

Have not you heard that the Catholic Church is infallible: it can do no wrong.
What we hear today is just a small part of what has been done during the last centuries. There have been violations of nuns, the murder of children and others. Very little the Catholic Church is based on the word of God, but is based on tradition.
I agree to keep their reputation clean, but I also believe that many of these organizations (not just that of their Catholic parishes is going on) believe they are a law unto themselves.
They have their own rules and guidelines and punishments (as they deem appropriate to deal out)
Perhaps it has become so ingrained in its history that could not see a problem with it.
It could also be a case of out of sight of mind.

I think everyone was in it. Most cases go unreported. So if there have been cases of many thousands more then there is certaintly. They're all sick bastards and everything will go straight to hell.
