The Protestants are "protesting" the Catholic Church authority, basically. The Bible is the authority for the most part.
The Catholics have their own complex system of control over people, such as infant baptism, the deification of the pope, penance, etc., none of which can be found anywhere in the Bible.

  2. Bad Cosmo says:

Católicos men add traditions and paganism of their faith. Those things are not supported in the Christian Bible. The examples
      1. Praying to Mary
      2. Praying to dead saints
      3. Purgatory
      4. Confess to the priests and the payment of a Pennance determined by that Preist.
      5. Call men "father" as an instrument against the commandment of Christ.
      6. Idols / * bowing to the statues and kissing
      7. Peterr say that was the first Pope and popes can not marry, but the apostle Peter was married
      8. To say that Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus, but the Bible contains four of the brothers of Jesus.
These are the basics. Biblical Christianity is the scriptures, not more - not less, without adding or subtracting from it. B.C. if far from the Roman Catholic church that was an amalgam of Christianity and paganism in the Roman emperor Constantine.
And the person above who says that biblical Christians do not meet Suday, which is NOT true. The apostles gathered on the first day of the week. That would be Sunday. Bible Christians follow Christ and the teachings of the Apostles.

suggest you try to explain what the fundamental difference is in regard to the way they perform their rituals and ceremonies of worship, honor and worship the deity.

"Protestant" is a general term used to describe a Christian who refuses to accept the position of the Church with bishops, cardinals and a pope as administrative representatives appointed in Christendom. Most Protestants believe that "faith alone" (and paradoxically) "Scripture alone" are the keys to salvation. Shares of a person are not counted. They assume that the mere belief in Jesus' sacrifice irresponsible automatically keeps your sinful acts. This is not conducive to sin, but that prevents them from mistakenly believing that you can buy your way into heaven by good works alone. Catholics believe that a combination of faith and good works are the key to guarantee salvation.
Catholics believe in a system where the bishops, cardinals and the pope have been named in the succession of the original disciples of Jesus. Simon Jesus appointed Peter as the "foundation of the church," as the first "Pope", with all the other disciples who, as Bishops. Catholics believe that only the original disciples of Jesus had the authority to appoint someone to succeed them (take place), and this tradition has been passed from generation to generation. Several other traditions have taken on the road, like kneeling to the cross before sitting (14th century tradition of honoring the nobility), and pay tribute to the remarkable achievements of the martyrs and certain agents known as Saints. Protestants reject these traditions and trying to simplify things for the good of "concentration" of their religion without what they consider an unnecessary distraction.
There are many more differences, but I hope that these key points sheds some light on the problem.

Find a Catholic. It is almost impossible to describe precisely the faith of another person to third person.

  6. Goodfell says:

Not much. sharing the base of the doctrines of the Trinity, hell and the immortal soul. (all of which are false).
The difference? The Catholic Church includes tons of "traditions" that do not originate in the Bible. Purgatory, Lent, the worship of Mary, idols, incense, prayer to saints, candles, a kind of priest, prayers memory (the Hail Mary … etc), Pope, Christmas, Easter, the indulgences (which led to the rupture or awy Protestant movement), and the list goes on and on!
while his explanation, you can ask your Muslim friend, the difference between Sunnis, Shiites, and all other sects of the Muslim faith?

No question. The complexities of the Catholic faith are lost on the way, forget the non-Christian.

  8. Balaam's Talking Donkey says:

    Alcoholic Marryworshipping / pedophiles
Protestants are locked alcoholic / pedophiles.

A Muslim who understand the struggle for control.
Basically it's a battle of who is in control, man or God.
Man of the Catholic Church in control
PRodestant Church of God is in control.
Muslims understand this as they have their own struggle to keep up with that sho SHitites and Sunnies are in control.

The difference # 1: The Catholic Church believes in the Real Presence of Christ in the Bread and Wine; # 2 difference, not just Catholics follow the Bible, but the current Office of Teaching of Jesus Christ is the Catholic Church. Let me elaborate:
Pre-Catholicism, Protestantism dates approx. 1,500 years. True Protestants left the Catholic Church, which is the original and authentic Christian Church. There are only four or five true Protestant churches, ie churches that split from the Catholic Church directly, as Lutherans, Anglicans, etc.
It means that the word "Catholic" more universal. This means: "According to all" as in the whole truth of Christ. The Catholic Church gave birth to the Bible and predates it by 400 years. Most non-Catholic Christians are "Christians in the Bible." Catholics adhere to the Office of the teaching of Jesus Christ who is the Catholic Church, not just the Bible. Catholics believe that when the bread and wine are consecrated in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which actually becomes the Body and Blood of Christ, without changing the appearance. Other differences are minor: seven sacraments instead of just one or two, the Pope as spiritual leader of Christians on Earth, insolubility of marriage, right to life, veneration of the Virgin Mary, respect for the Saints, etc.
Question: Why would a Muslim attention to the differences between Catholics and Protestants? While Catholics recognize that Islam is a monotheistic religion and revealed religion that sounds like your Muslim friend may be trying to convert them. If not well versed in their own faith and willing to defend it, may be better to set aside their dialogue until you are better prepared. Took the Jehovah's Witnesses, Evangelists and LDSS knocking on my door for me to get off my ass and actually learn Catholicism, which is why I will always be a Catholic. I took the trouble to learn the truth.
Good luck with your Muslim friend.

Jesus Christ founded one church, the Catholic Church, and only gave them power and authority to the church to act on their behalf, in all spiritual matters, until the end of time.
The protesters chose to secede from the Catholic church and set their own standards and practices, many of which vary substantially from Catholicism and other Protestant groups as well.

  13. JerseyRi says:

In 10 words or less …
Catholics - You need the church to enter heaven
Protestant - You are responsible for their own way to heaven

  14. imacatho says:

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
Only by grace through faith in Christ's saving work and not for any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping and calling us to good works.
There are some minor issues and the doctrine of some major traditional cultural differences that I think does not matter much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of his new church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
      With love in Christ.

  15. william r says:

The difference? There really is not much. If Protestants were true to their credo of "the Bible and the Bible only" as the rule of faith, then we worship on Saturday, the seventh day of the week as this is the only day that God has reserved. Sunday was annulled by the Catholic Church, not God. So when the Protestant worship in the Sunday they are paying homage to the Pope. If you want to believe or not.

  16. whynotas says:

Catholics have replaced much of the truth of the Bible with their own ideas and have the Pope as the great man.
True Christians do not recognize the Pope and the only BIBLE!

  17. thechiva says:

    I would say this:
Muhammad Imagine a person specifically designated to succeed him as a kind of representative, after his death. The person who held this office is responsible for interpreting the Koran, the Sunna, etc, all down through history. That is the Catholic Church.
Then imagine that some Muslims decided that the representative was not someone who needed to hear. You can ignore the representative, read and interpret the books themselves, and come to different conclusions than the representative, and live different interpretations, and still go to paradise. Protestantism.

  18. boukenge says:

I always thought that Catholics were all about rituals and rules and that only through adherence to a strict set of doctrines could enter heaven while Protestants were against all that and allow each person could go to heaven your way.
