I was molested by a Catholic priest many years ago. He ended up serving prison time.?

I am on SSDI (disability) and suffer from PTSD as a result of this trauma. While going to therapy for many years still suffer from depression and survived a nearly lethal suicide attempt.
Specialized treatment costs money that I have. I put on antidepressants throughout the county, but I need a treatment such as EMDR.
Can you offer any suggestions on how I can keep the Catholic Church responsible, so you can receive monetary compensation, which allows me to get the right treatment? These crimes happened in New Jersey. I understand that there are issues of status limitaion that these crimes happened in the 70's and 80's.
Any lawyers out there or survivors who have suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  Thanks

No disrespect intended. I'm known for bitter truths. I am sorry that this happened to you. I know it is not easy. Also please understand that I grew up with a mother who cried I'm the victim (by all male family members and anyone who does not see it using eyes as an excuse for a poor mother and wife ) … has been 20-30yrs … is time to move beyond this. I do not care if the church swept under the carpet. The court system gave custody of my child to a dangerous criminal for no good reason, and ruined his life doing and stressing me trying to regain custody and settlement of their behavior. There is absolutely nothing I can do justice system that raped my son of his future decisions. It's time to forgive, let go and move on. There are also self-help books. If you need EMDR and told by a doctor, and you already receive County / State helps pay for the treatment and medication … is likely to also pay for further treatment. However, I think it's wrong to go after the church or the priest now years later. It's no different to being sick with the flu, expecting them to pay the bill because it does not work and blame the past. It's time to move on. I think you want to have someone responsible for his illness that has affected you, but you are not holding themselves accountable for how it is affecting the province, church, priest, parish members, and taxpayers .. . and yet is only a disease. Do you like the priest are choosing not to control the 'ill'ness … when it is actually thinking anything but poor. If you are going to sue someone sue her therapist as you still have not healed, they do not, because they can … because you have to be to choose a different thought.

Instead of attacking you thought they might be willing to work with you.
It happened to me too, and the church offered to pay all my advice and gave me a lot of help.
It is no fault of the church, but the fault of that evil bastard.

I'm sorry that you had this experiece. In most cases it does not matter that the statute of limitations has passed. The Church is the removal of this limitation and because he went to prison for sexually abusing you there will be no problems in the documentation of crime. Almost all cases of sexual abuse occurred decades ago. For the last couple of decades, these crimes have become very rare as the Church has a zero. God bless!

It is the Catholic Church who is responsible, but was the type guy who went to jail, which was his punishment. I'm sure it is for now so you can sue.

    You are probably lying ….
The Catholic Church did not cause this priest to molest you, it was the same person, so how can an entity holding the bad decision of a person???

You can call the local diocese and tell your situation. They may be willing to cover the treatment you need. I am totally serious. If you ask someone to do it for you (family member, lawyer or a canon lawyer), then that might help you if you get nervous. It can not hurt to try church law, it might even entitle you to it. You sound genuine to me. EMDR treatment is very good, I know someone who has had to do. It's remarkable. You have my prayers.

He is a scoundrel! He deserves to be flogged, and must marry you. What led to jail? He was manipulating the collection plate or playing with the boys in the choir? Some Catholic priests get in trouble for "DUI" and so on.
I have doubts about their need for EMDR. It is at best a placebo effect or simply a 'Trauma Therapy. These may or may not be useful to someone in your circumstances, but it will be difficult to get a court order to pay someone to a course of 'pull' after all these years. Also, you are, by their own admission not the best person to judge. You have been a nutcase unfit for work for at least 20 years. I would recommend a change of company and some healthy exercise. Try to choose a vegetable or something work.

    Dear Rotorwin,
This is a difficult question too heavy to do online. I realize many doubt its veracity. I'm not going to sit in that seat. His question concerned the monetary compensation to help pay their costs and there are some good ideas sent you to follow through with.
My advice is to stay in counseling. First, if it is a figment of his imagination … you need advice. Secondly, if it is a fiction and that really suffer …. advice is needed. Third will offer a few suggestions for their current plight with a more personal note.
If this happens, as you say then all the information acquired is colored by case one. Therefore, you will have difficulty seeing the world in a balanced way, like many others do. This can swivel in a lonely place in the world at large … very lonely. If you attempted suicide then that should indicate the seriousness of the problem. I can not speak to you the legal issues, but I can be compassionate to you and say that all is not lost. There is light at the end of the tunnel and that God loves you. Many scoff at the scoffers, but consider that it might be their inability to cope with such trauma.
      Hope this helps!

The church people should not be responsible and what the priest, but not enough seems to have fulfilled its legal punishment. Case closed.
