Bautista My friend asked me the difference between Catholicism and Christianity?

I told him that was like asking me what the difference between Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Classic, because Catholicism is the oldest and most popular form of Christianity as Coca-Cola Classic is the oldest and most popular form of Coca - Cola. He was angry and said it was not true, because the early Christians were more like Baptist, but disappeared for 1700 years. My question is if I think it is true that the early Church was rather that Catholics, Baptists, why all the groups that descended from that early church, ie Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic, Armenian, etc. Why everyone is asking Mary and the saints to pray for us, have a deacon, priest, bishop hierarchy system, have a literal interpretation in the body and blood and a liturgical service. I really do not understand why all these independent churches all have in common, if not the early Church had in common. He did not specify why ask the saints to pray for us was bad, but the Christians were doing before there was a Bible.

The Catholic faith is the dominant faith who prays to Mary only. The Bible says clearly that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. It also prevents the prayer to anyone but God. Moreover, the Catholic faith is the only dominant religion, which does not allow the clergy to marry, why so many cases of priests, child abuse. The Bible says: "To be fruitful and multiply." If the chosen men of God were allowed to marry, why not allow priests to marry. I have another question for you, there was a recent survey indicating that almost 70% of Catholics do not attend church regularly, but feel they are still in good standing with God. It seems truly amazing. Why is that Catholics are not encouraged to read the Bible and study on their own. Most Catholics do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once dated a woman who was Catholic and never went to church. I was gonna go to church once said to me until they learned that our service was an hour and a half (1 hour 30 minutes) long. In his words "was too long to be in the church." This lady out of six-figure salary, has a big house, big car, and considers that to give God 90 minutes of his team is too much trouble. You can keep Catholicism, because I'm not buying. However, do not take my word for it, when was the last time you read and study the Bible on their own? Peace and God bless.

I think your friend might be a little confused about what Catholics mean by the "early church" because when he says that the early Christians that is probably referring to those who read in the Scriptures - the disciples, apostles, Catholics etc. referring to an entirely different "from the early Church, so you might want to explain that to him because I'm betting that's confused about it.
Since the Baptist, probably based on the Bible for evidence of how Christians are expected to behave in the faith. Since there is very little - if any - Biblical evidence of Jesus' disciples or the apostles asking Mary and the saints to pray or establishing a hierarchy, or even a literal interpretation of the Body and Blood, your friend is probably wondering how it all got started.
So you may want to explain why the early church adopted these practices, but none of the disciples of Jesus or the Apostles established. If you just explain a little more detail I could understand it better.

You're right. Catholics are Christians. Baptists are Christians. Catholics came first.

  4. Rallie Florencio C says:

There is no difference. Both are Christians, referring to Jesus Christ.
One is Catholic and the other is the group protesting against the Catholic Church calls the Protestant ..
They do not want to be identified as Protestants (Since most of them do not really join the first Protestants) that addressed themselves as Christians. And true to the words of Jesus. "I came to bring peace, but I come to bring" divisions "

I had a similar experience with the mother of a friend who is a Baptist. She said that Catholicism was a cult and that the Baptist faith was the true Christian religion. I found that interesting as it predates Catholicism Baptist faith and Catholicism for centuries course is / was the foundation of Christianity.

The churches have become the clubs. "You can` t in my club if you get to do, "" you can `t be part of my club, if you eat meat on Fridays," "You Can` t in my club, if you long hair and a tattoo. They have so lost touch with God is amazing.
God is not Catholic or Baptist or Methodist. "He does not care what club you belong to. He cares about your essence (your inner self) .. He loves you and wants to have a personal relationship with you .. "He does not need you to be perfect. He never asked to perfection .. He only asks that you love and believe Jesus lived and died to cover their sins .. That is, in a nutshell ..
My Bible says to bow to anyone. N where my Bible to kiss the Pope's ring. My Bible says to pray through Jesus. No mention or pray through Mary to everyone. My Bible does not say that the nuns should wear a wedding ring and marry God .. My Bible doesn `t even mention nuns, bishops, popes, priests or Catholicism, and about the man's confession, it says to confess to God .. And only God ..
I can go on and on and on .. I can not find even a tenth of 1% of what Catholics do, in my Bible .. My Bible says that if a 2 is fulfilled in Jesus' name is the Church ..
My Bible does not say that making child molesters and move them to other churches and approves of the trash .. My Bible says that what makes the lowest of these (children) that have made me (God) .. So really, I'm running so far from the Catholic faith that I can .. I will not be part of the apology child molesters (((abusers of God))) .. My Bible says Mat 28:19 Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit:
It doesn `t say a word about Mary .. My Bible says in Leviticus 18:22 "Thou shalt not be with mankind as with woman: it is abomination." And much less to be with the children ..

Why did the Protestants hate the Church of Christ, but Catholics Protestants love?
We Catholics would never say to non-Catholic Christians what they believe, but accept their assertions of their beliefs, but, unlike the Catholic faith, usually no source to verify their beliefs as it is with Catholics, where one can go to catechesis and see exactly what Catholics believe. Therefore, in this modern era of instant information through the computer, there is no excuse if you have a false testimony against the Church of Christ and the faithful. These actions must, if one uses reason, prevarification intentional. There is simply no other explanation, other than laziness. In fact right when he says that one can be Catholic wannabe but probably not the deliberate desire, but the result of drawing Holy Spirit to the Church of Christ and stirring up trouble in your soul disobedient. His fighting spirit tells them to find fault with the Church of Christ, even when it is created in his own imagination, or is apparent that the original church and all that Christ has created is the true Church, with all the promises that Christ gave His Church. Obviously, if there is delivered to these facts, then it would be in the will of God and obedient to the one true God. It seems that ignoring this obvious conclusion is illustrated by their unwillingness to even check out their beliefs about the Catholic Church to know if their imagined faults some accuracy. What will happen, as thousands can testify who have come home to his Church is that he hated and spoke out against is not at all the Catholic Church, but an enemy of his own creation.
The question is asked, "realize the Protestants look to their pastors as we Catholics with our priests" This is a very good question and points to a key difference in the leadership of the Protestant churches, in contrast to Catholic churches. Many times in the Protestant churches there is no supervision of non-denominational churches calls that are becoming so popular. This allows all sorts of false teaching and apostasy. Any minister can teach you everything you want without hindrance. Often the pastors of these churches have no training at all in understanding the Bible and the use of a methodology for proof text in the presentation of their doctrines to their congregations frequently causes errors heretical. Only the congregation has anything resembling oversight, but more often put blind faith in their pastors, really puts them on pedestals representing a man of God. Congregations imagine their pastors to be free from sin and example of justice. This is why there was a scandal when they fail and sinful humanity is revealed. Their churches actually have recourse to the justice of his pastor for his veracity as a church. Since it is a man of the church, where else can that truth and justice come? Therefore, when the Catholic Church teaches that evil exists is nowhere else for these faithful to appeal to the truth as their confidence in their pastor.
We Catholics are our priests and bishops in different ways. The Church teaches that the priest is a servant of the people and the bishop is the chief pastor and delivery of the spiritual needs of the flock through the Sacraments. The priest reminded the congregation of our lack of righteousness, as a person and a child of God, confessing our congregations that we too are sinners in thought, word and deed. If there was a tendency for the congregation to believe that the priest is godlier or have less than a sinful nature that confession should remove all doubt. There is no pretension in a priest to have one that is fairer or less tempted by sin. If a pastor confessed his sins to the congregation, even in a general sense, like the priests who probably would be released from his position. The Catholic Church, of course, receives the righteousness of Christ and the truth of his promises and not the example of men inherently sinful. In the Catholic Church is not necessary or even expected that the priest would be any different than anyone else in the tendency to be tempted into sin. For example, the sacraments are equally valid from a sinful priest, as a most pious priest, because the holiness of the sacraments are the result of Christ's righteousness and not the priest as the priest acts "in persona Christi" where justice can never be doubted.
These fundamental differences are in how the clergy perceived Catholic and Protestant communities, I think because the Protestant pastors are perceived as fair, saints and holy men there is greater opportunity for the false teaching that leads to heresy and apostasy. The congregation is hungry for the Word of God and is often filtered through the unique interpretation of the theology of a man. Because of this is that it is not surprising that there are thousands of different sects within Protestantism schismatic each with its own truth and heresy. Trust only those parishioners have in their pastor, not a church founded by Christ with its promise of accuracy.
      Christ used the vernacular reads:
On this rock I will build my Church speaks to San Pedro.
Christ is the cornerstone and the 12 disciples are the basis
He says that He is with His Church
He says the church will last until the Parousia
He says the church will be free of apostasy
He says that He is with His Church for all time and does so by sending the Holy Spirit to guide the Church and to share his Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity with His Church through His miracle of the Eucharist.
He said that His Church is the "bulwark and foundation of truth."
Can a pastor from making such promises to start his church? Of course, not just promises of Christ are truthfully, regardless of intent or sincerity of any man.
As Catholics we are commanded to love others. We are not only to love those who love us or the Church but also our enemies. This is one of the hardest lessons in all of Scripture, because it goes against our natural tendencies of our being sinful to hate. We are called to pray for these people who hate us and His church and desire the same blessings we receive. But, more importantly, we pray that God will take place and that may come into full communion with the Church by sharing the fullness of faith, worship and truth that Catholics received in his church.

Because Baptists never formed an army and the Catholic Church did. :)
The councils of Nicaea and others, and the Vatican have had a profound effect on slow and what is "Catholicism." That and the fact that Catholics believe they are the religion of _ONLY_ descendant of Christ, (when in reality, it is especially Paul, who are descendants of).
The Catholic Church is almost 800-pound gorilla when it comes to Christian sects. And they like it that way.
There were no "saints" to the Catholic Church, BTW. That is an archetype Catholic. Christians prayed to Jesus or God. That's all. Some said "I am the way" and "only through me will find salvation" in the sense that they should pray to Jesus, others must move on.
There are few traditions that CC no, I do not agree. The Last Supper was the Passover. I do not think when he said "Do this in remembrance of me" referred to "drink blood and eat my flesh." I think he meant "to eat dinner and talk about religion." (My opinion, most churches do not agree.:))
Remember .. the last thing most people remember him .. Jesus was a Jew. It is not a Christian. :)
Pope Peter the 1st, BTW, did not become "Papa" or even start a church until long after Jesus died, and Paul almost pushed him to it. (Paul, who went opressing early Christians, until they noticed that dumb and blind to get a clue).
If indeed this question, the best thing to do is read the Bible. Old and New Testaments. See if you agree with his church about what it means. Religion is a personal decision, not one anyone should "say". It _you_ believe, not what someone tells you create.

  16. PaulCyp says:

The early Church was very similar to the priesthood - the Church of today, the same bishops, the Pope himself, same sacraments, worship it. And the story shows that one true Church founded by Jesus Christ to all mankind calls himself "the Holy Catholic Church" by the end of the first century. The truth never changes, and Jesus said that the Church, and not another, that would teach the fullness of truth until the end of time. Baptists are just one of hundreds of churches not authorized by the denominational man that have emerged in the last hundred years, in direct opposition to the declared will of God, "they all be one." In fact, several Baptist churches are not authorized, because even there are Baptist churches that are in conflict with other Baptist churches in their teaching.

Where the Bible is one example where we are going to pray to a saint?
I do not intend to bash Catholicism, but I disagree with official church doctrine of the Catholic Church. While Catholics have known some who have placed their confidence in the work of Jesus Christ, I believe that the lessons are in place by the official church, leading many to justice based on the works that is not healthy.

  18. God says:

They are different in the same way that a button is different from a shelter.
Catholicism is a part of Christendom.

  19. BELANOVA says:

Catholicism and Christianity are basically the same. Unlike the Catholic Christians do not believe there is a point at which a confession with the priest, do not believe in the Virgin Mary, or believe in having a lot of saints. There are many types of Christianity so this could be wrong, but if you believe in God, that's what matters.

  20. John S, BaC says:

I agree with you about the comparison between Catholicism and Christianity is like the difference between Coca-Cola Classic and Coca-Cola. For your information, Coke Classic is new, and is no where near the original, or even coke had up to 70 or 80, probably.
Likewise, the Catholic Church is certainly nothing like the early Christian church. Catholicism is not got its start until about 370 or less, and it was not official until the time of Gregory at around 600.
The Baptist reappeared after the reform and only abandoned any church doctrine and tradition and started from scratch using only the Bible.
Although his friend can not be completely accurate on what he thinks he can be much closer to the truth of what they are. I would listen to him and try to learn the truth instead of holding to their beliefs arrogance obviously false. Anyone who blindly defends Catholicism has never investigated the allegations against him.

  21. Angel SA says:

For starters, where non-Christians before there was a Bible. Christianity came after Jesus was resurrected. Catholicism arrived in England, which was the Church of England. The Church of England, where they began the Crusades. However, the Catholic Church is like the Jewish religion during the days of Jesus.
Christianity is trying to separate from religion, but that makes it very difficult for people of other religions apart from Christianity to Catholicism.
Christianity believes that the coming of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Savior of the Redemption with the liberation of eternal life in His Kingdom, which is his Church.
Christianity believes in the holy word as the true Church of God, the Father. This is why God inspired him to write and brought witnesses to the mystery of His Word to their children of his church, in His Kingdom.
      AMEN! GOD BLESS! SHALOM!

  22. James O says:

The Catholic and Orthodox Christianity is original
Catholicism is a Christian as are all Protestant faiths trintarian

  23. Misty says:

His answer was correct. Some believe, like you friend, that early Christians were actually kind fundamentalist Christians, and went underground. This is impossible because Christ said that the "gates of hell shall not prevail" against His Church. If the Church went underground for 1700 years, then this would mean the gates of hell shall not prevail and that Christ lied … as I said "impossible."
In fact, the Catholic Church today is the same in the fundamental belief as it was 2000 years ago. We have the early writings of the Fathers of the Church in which we can read what they believed and practiced … and that was Catholicism. Many of his earlier writing some of the New Testament writings.
There is nothing wrong with asking Mary and the saints for prayer and intercession for us. This is an incorrect interpretation and understanding of the Scriptures in the Bible-only Christians.
