If I were pope, I would like the tradition particular to (the tradition of celibate priests). The Catholic Church strives to many priests, and since this is a mandate of tradition instead of Scripture, I would want to reconsider. I've also thought that maybe the priests could take votes - 5 or 6 years - and then leave their posts if they want … that way the church could have priests in the service, but perhaps more men would be interested in becoming clergy as they would have the option to conduct a family life if they so wished.

    Yes
Our first pope, Peter, was still married.
The non-celibate clergy came into full bloom until around 1000 AD there were married and celibate priests, bishops and popes before this time.
Priests and religious (nuns) as part of their vocation not to marry following:
+ The recommended practice in the Bible
+ In the example of Jesus, John the Baptist, and the apostle Paul.
      + + + + + + Writing
In Matthew 19:12, Jesus says: "Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so, some because they were made so by others, some because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Who can accept this should accept it. "
In Matthew 19:29, Jesus says, "And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life .
Matthew 22:30 - Jesus explains: "In the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven".
In 1 Corinthians 7:1, Paul writes, "It's a good thing for a man not to touch a woman."
Then in 1 Corinthians 7:7, Paul says, "Indeed, I wish they all be like me."
In 1 Corinthians 7:27, Paul writes: "Are you free from a wife? Then do not look for a woman. "
In 1 Corinthians 7:32-33, Paul teaches us: "I would be free of worries. An unmarried man is concerned with things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about worldly things, how to please his wife. "And in verse 38," So, who marries his virgin does well, he who does not marry she will do better. "
Paul recommends celibacy for full-time ministers in the Church so as to be able to concentrate fully to God and building His kingdom. The "who refrains from marriage will do better."

Biblical models of a celibate clergy came from John the Baptist, Jesus and the apostle Paul.
John the Baptist and Jesus are both believed that celibacy was throughout his life. Some scholars believe that the example of the Essenes influenced either or both of Jesus and John the Baptist in their celibacy.
WWJD? What would Jesus do? Jesus never married.
The Apostle Paul is explicit about his celibacy (cf. 1 Cor. 7). There is also evidence in the Gospel of Matthew for the practice of celibacy among some Christians, in the famous passage about becoming "eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:12).
The concept took many twists and turns in recent years and will probably have a bit more before Christ returns in glory.
A priest is "married" to the Church. Some people think that a priest who takes seriously its functions can not properly care for a wife and family.
      With love in Christ.

  3. King 1up says:

The Orthodox priests / monks and nuns have always been allowed to marry.
It's only Catholic monasticism does not.

  4. Mateo F says:

They do it because we study the history of the Catholic Church before becoming priests.
If I were the Pope to allow them to marry. Perhaps in this way would stop molesting children.

  5. MaH says:

Yes, we do. And did you know that there are married priests, not only Eastern rite of the Latin rite, but also, even today?
And if I were the Pope, I like to keep the celibate clergy as the norm.
Paul's advice is still sound today …. singles are totally dedicated to serving God, while the ministers of marriage, by necessity must be distracted.
There are many stories of problems in marriages, families and congregations of the married clergy. It's a struggle to balance the needs of the three parties, to ensure stability, to be available and responsive to the needs of all.
And for your information, celibacy has nothing to do with the scandals in the Church. Married ministers are so prone to sin, like everyone else.
