Catholisism And Christianity?

I am relatively new Christian, and I just want to understand people's views a little better.
A little Catholic tradition of praying to Mary, begging forgiveness for the priest instead of Jesus, and standing firm (hard) with the way one conducts activiety Church / Sevices and ceramonies. You can not be seen as that Idolitary? If one does differentley perceived wrong?
I will not tell anyone Offen, just struggled to find scripture to support the traditions or the prayer to Mary / Los Santos, etc.
Forgive me if I Offen, not my intention, I just want to educate myself on the floor and know how you go about these things and the reasoning behind it.
  God Bless!

I've heard people say that Catholics are not Christians, but I disagree. They believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is our Savior. However, I agree that some of their practices are not biblical. It is my understanding that praying to Mary and the saints, go to a priest to confess their sins and ask forgiveness, and the priest tells them to carry out works, like so many Hail Marys. Jesus also told us to call anyone Father except Our Father which art in heaven, and call their priests father.
It all began when Constantine decreed that all of their empire was converted to Christianity. The problem was that he had the first clue what it means to be Christian. They combined their pagan rituals, festivals and holidays with his new religion. Thus the Catholic Church began. In fact, this is where we call Easter. It derives from the name of the pagan goddess Ishtar, but he can not and should not stop all the Christians in celebrating the resurrection of Christ.
The Catholic Church is usually but not always, people who were bred and raised as Catholics to worship God in the way they do and they do not question the Church, even when in contradiction with Scripture.
All this being said, I think most Catholics sincerely love God and try to follow Jesus. I have some reservations about the administration of the church itself, but I will not go into that now. Remember, God used a Catholic (Mel Gibson) to bring us the movie "The Passion of the Christ."
As you are aware of the fact that they are doing certain things that contradict the Scriptures, you should think carefully and pray hard before making any decision regarding membership of the church. May God bless you and may His Holy Spirit guide you in all you do.

Well said ….. is idolatry ….. simply refuse to see it that way.
If you are a true Christian has the Holy Spirit of God living and dwelling within you ….. who guides us to the truth …. clearly see the fallacy that is the Catholic Church.
I thank God for people like Martin Luther ….. that exposed this heresy
      Edit:
Luther made no change in the writing …. merely stated the truth in him.

  3. Eric T says:

You will never find a verse from the Bible to support Mary and the priest! It Idolitary!

  4. Pinkribb says:

Yes, it is idolatry. However, Catholicism and Mormonism does not teach that the Bible is God's final word. Revisions have been made and go through what the Pope says. He is the final authority agreed with them. For Mormons, say they are going by the Bible, if properly translated. This means that if you are going through their teachings, then it is correct. Mormons and Catholics have additions to the Bible than most others do not.

  5. Be me says:

I've wondered the same thing. I could not find anything to support or pray to the Virgin of the priests for forgiveness. I honestly do not believe that these practices are bibilical. That was the purpose of Jesus coming to this earth - that the veil was torn and could have a direct relationship with God and pray to Him and ask forgiveness - not Mary or a priest. But to be honest, I had the most interaction with the Catholics either. If not lump all Catholics, but Catholics have known several that I've found to be critical and critical of Christians who are not Catholic.

  6. ganges says:

no man, woman or idols should be asked to grant him forgiveness in the only way to achieve this is through worship to God that your prophets and priests, but they should ask forgiveness for their sins, except the Muslim-oriented time or Christian. But thats just my view

  7. .::rainbow armadillo::. says:

Many Protestants feel Catholic worship is idolatry and therefore are Protestants. Think of the word "protest" and is where it comes from. They were protesting how he behaved and the Catholic Church selling indulgences for sins erase was the final straw for many. This was in 1500 I think.
Then, of course, is the controversy Mary, honor their … And the priest for forgiveness of sins, so read the Bible and church history and make its own decision, no one rushes you …

  8. Earl D says:

So we have to remember Peter and Paul and later Constantine was converted to a pagan people in the ways of Jesus.
Technically, you must first have trained them for being Jewish. Jesus, you know, was Jewish, not Christian. He was a Reform Jewish rabbi, basically.
Jesus and his disciples were about to have or have a meal on Seder night is rather traditional in Jewish tradition with 24 ounces of wine, meat, flatbread, egg burned. You should also read the Torah, singing, singing.
These are the traiditions Jesus was raised.
Where all single men have beards and cover their heads.
So all of Christianity has been far from the age Jesus was trained on Earth.
I suppose that Jesus could find interesting.
I also hope that Jesus would take issue with just about every Christian religious sect for some of the things that they embrace.
On the basis of Jesus in the Bible that would be so controversial, ornary, suggesting, contrary to logic and many of the people and things and concepts.
So if to announce that it was Jesus, which Christians would be calling for his execution for being a fraud.
Prehaps that's what it is Revelations. The second coming of Jesus and his rejection by man as a fraud.
      The following mistaken prophet.

  9. LadyG says:

You raised some points I made to myself when I left the Catholic church. Catholics understand that while affirm that it is idolatry (s), when they pray to Mary and the saints is no different than asking a friend to pray for them. I see it differently. There is nothing in the Bible that tells us to do so. We pray directly to God and Jesus intercedes for us. We confess our sins directly to God and not a human intercessor. Mary and other saints were not taken directly to heaven, but are buried in the ground and not yet risen. Mary was chosen for a particular role, but also many others.
Baptizing a baby is another problem for me. Baptism is a commandment and must be old enough to know the reason for it, and be able to make their own choice. In other churches, babies are dedicated to God, but baptism comes later.
Many of the Catholic traditions were created by man, and are not bibically correct. I have in the laws that are Catholic, and we turned around and back on some issues. I saw an ad recently that said you have the right to believe what you believe, but you have the responsibility to learn the truth. None of the above is not intended to offend anyone, which reflects my own beliefs and teachings. Keep in mind, I was raised Catholic.
Continue to explore, ask whenever you have questions, pray for guidance and wisdom. May God bless you!

  10. John 1:1 says:

As well explained in a number of posts over the division between the RCC and Protestantism is contained in a number of issues, idolatry, intercession and masterly being predominant.
Everything almost comes down to this. The CCR is not practicing idolatry by the use of the cross, images of Mary and / or the Saints. The idols as seen in the Bible are the pillars, obelisks and statues that prays to the gods AS. That is not the case of the RCC or Protestantism.
Teacher refers to the symbols, traditions and church government.
Intercession is the biggie! The CCR believes that the Pope and the bishops of extension, priests and deacons are direct descendants through the apostolic succession and is the vicar of God on earth with all the power given to the original Apostles, especially Peter. Although the way, the truth and the life is Christ, Christ's way is through his apostles.
Protestants on the other hand I believe that all men are capable of having a personal relationship with Christ (Everyman a priest) and that the only "mediation" is Christ in our behalf with God.
Either way, it is Christ who is the root of our salvation, and Christ alone. I do not know that it matters whether you believe it is personal and has to go through another time ensuring that the final destination is Christian and his salvation.
That said there are some sects (Mormons, JW, and others) that do not teach the Trinity. These are not Orthodox Christians. The divinity of Christ is essential to Christianity.

  13. bi_tgrl says:

I understand your point, but as a former Catholic (and there are many of us) and how catechisim teacher back in the day, they do not actually pray to Mary or the saints, or request the frogiveness priest in confession. Are ducts. The purpose of the priest in confession is basically to assign penance for sins, that is, ten Hail Marys, five of our parents, etc. .. or to act as a person who can give advice on how to handle a situation. A bit like a messy counselor. The joint agreement on prayer to Mary or any of the saints, however, is widely misunderstood by tons of people, even in the Catholic faith. They are just people to pray to God. How and why did I have no idea and really wish someone had the answer to that. It seems rather strange to go to them when you go to God is so easy and the goal you are looking for anyway. Is it idolatry? I would not say that, and not held in reverence of God above, but is decidedly rare, at least in my opinion.
Only addittion to respondant principle, but are aware that Martin Luther change parts of the Bible to meet their own needs, when they break it? Is it really a good thing to be happy?

  14. ericcarr says:

As Catholics, we pray to Mary as an intercessor on our behalf and not her in the same way that we pray to God. We pray this way because, as seen at the wedding of Canaan, Jesus listened to his mother when he performed his first miracle (turning water into wine). Since I listened to Mary in a case like this, Catholics believe that Mary has pull with Jesus as an advocate and believe that Mary will take our concerns and worries to Jesus for us. This is also the same way we ask the saints as intercessors specific …, not divine. When Jesus died on the cross, He even gave us his mother saying that the apostle John: "Son, behold your mother" and also to Mary, "Woman, behold your son." Thus, Jesus symbolically gave his mother to us all, not only to believers and gave us all to it. In response to another part of your question, we Catholics are rigid in our ceremonies to show respect to God. Admitedly things, there are certain Catholics who might be misconstrued as idolatry, but we believe that a statue of Jesus is just a statue. We beg you, not the statue of Jesus, we pray to Jesus like all other Christians.

  15. Prophet John of the Omega says:

Various Christian churches practice differently. It is because the Lord God has a purpose for that diversity, but must be seen in the unit (of faith). These if venerate the Virgin Mary or no, or very legalistic and very evangelistic or very meek, etc. So as a Christian outside the Catholic Church Baptist Neither he nor the Mormons and the Protestants, etc because I belong to all them as I am a Christian in the Spirit, where there is a unity of faith with the One God, one Lord, one baptism, one spirit, one body of Christians. Evens, the Lord Jesus said that time is now that God's will worship in spirit and in truth. Why is that? Pls read about so each religion / churches say they are the true church. Thus, in embracing Chrisitanity, Satan is stragegy s divide and rule. Remember that Satan is the real ruler of this word and the rules of the world of deception. Evens, churches are deeply divided and each claims to be the true church against others. But each of these churches are a part of the true Church which all belong to one body of Christianity or the Christian religion. In Rev 1:10 and Rev 1:20 the Lord God is the conclusion of the seven churches. They were the seven churches in Asia Minor (now Turkey) presented by the apostles of Jesus Christ, the Lord, after that after 4BC ascending into heaven. The seven churches to be in God's hand show that these seven churches are united and one in the hand of God. 1ST Ephesus Church is now oriented churches Hebrew laws, tithes, Saturdays, etc. These churches are Jehovah's Witnesses, Shabbat, the 7th day Adventists and worship God as Abba Father. This relationship is between the father and the prodigal sons and himself under the law is not yet follow the laws. They are the right hand and the legs of the Christian body. They declare that God is the tree of life that is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. The churches are imperfect as they are without love and their faith is based on laws and not their hearts. The 2nd is the Church of Smyrna, now the Mormons. They worship God as the Lamb of God. They are the life of the body. This relationship is between God Meek called the Lamb of God and men gentle call of the saints. They declare that God is the crown of life that is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Comment by God that this church is brave and as such is imperfect church. Thus are cowering in fear in the cities and to look like saints martyred for their blood spilled on the floor to give birth to the Christian churches. This church is under the law. The 3rd is the church of Pergamum now born again and fundamentalist. They are the mouth of the Christian body. They worship God as the Man-God-Lord Jesus Christ. This relationship is between the Man-God and men to show that the Lord Jesus Christ was a historical man. Review GOD 'S is that these churches are imperfect as they are repeat offenders, as they say and do. They declare that God is the True Bread of Heaven and the rock of salvation, which is the title of thelord JESUS CHRIST. These churches are under the dispensation of Grace. The 4th is the church of Thyatira now Protestant and Anglican churches. They are the eyes and feet of the Christian body. They worship God as THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, which is one of the titles of Jesus Christ. This relationship is between the mighty God and powerful men. They are the eyes and feet of the Christian body. Comment by God is that these churches are imperfect as they are corrupt.
They declare that God is the only ONE in power and glory, which is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. These churches are not under the grace of the law. The 5 is the Church of Sardis scholars now, Scientology, church of science. "They are head and mind of the Christian body. They worship God, who is the Alpha and Omega is one of the titles of Jesus Christ. This ratio is among the highest among the prophets and the prophets. Comment by God that this church is dead and therefore imperfect. Thus, as they claimed that their wisdom are themselves although it is God who gives them the wisdom and knowledge and therefore of God are dead. They claim that God is the author of The Book of Life that is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. These churches are not under the dispensation of grace under the law. The 6th is now Philadelphia miraculous cross miracle workers. They are the heart of the body. Who worship God as the Bridegroom who is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and his affair is faithful to his wife as a bride for eternity. This church is perfect as the love of God makes perfect. They declare that God is the author of our faith in God, a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. These churches are not under the grace of the law. The 7 is now laodicia Catholics, the Church and Ecumenical Church othodox East. They worship God in the Spirit called Immanuel, which is one of the titles of the Lord Jesus Christ, as are most Christian parts of the body and, therefore, are everywhere. Comment by God is that these churches are warm and therefore imperfect. This is how most parts of the body is warm in temperature and at 37 degrees Celsius, the body has a fever and less than an organism is dead. They declare that God is the host of the sacrament, which is a title of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. All these seven churches are imperfect churches except the Church of Philadelphia to perfection by the love of God. Today, they are divisive because of Satan's deception of divide and rule. Physically, today, are the seven churches on earth. In 4BC, were the seven churches in Asia. But in God's hand thus being perfect, are the seven churches in the spirit. In the coming reign of Jesus Christ, they shall be called the Seven Churches of God and Christ in the universal Church. Moreover, the God worshiped by the seven churches are all titles of the Lord Jesus Christ as ABBA "Eternal Father, THE LAMB OF GOD, THE WORD OF GOD, THE KING, THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA, THE HUSBAND AND EMMANUEL. Therefore, the Lord Jesus has many crowns. Moreover, these seven churches in the spirit into the hands of the Lord's hand is the symbol of the unity of the faith. And in John 17:23 THE LORD JESUS CHRIST prayed for the unity of faith father saying that you have given me, that may be perfect as we are one. Similarly, one of the hidden titles of Jesus Christ, the Lord is violations of the walls of division and walls of hostility among believers deceived. Seven of St. John Churches in Asia has passed the baton to the seven earthly churches of Earth (the imperfect churches except the Church Phila) and that John has passed the baton of spiritual direction to his humble service prophet John CHURCHES IN SEVEN The spirit that I am the senior pastor. For these unity of faith and unity of his father UNIT LORD unity of the Spirit, unity of faith, one Baptism and the unity of body-thus one becomes perfect in the Spirit. I saw an answer to this lovely site in a Catholic when I wondered about the same issue
      This is what it says
Mary is the mother of all men. Catholics believe that the Son of God chose to come to the world through a mother so the mother could accept as brothers to all children from the sinful race of man. It was an example of how it should be honored and loved. Motherhood was prepared for this by asking all who suffer every imaginable form of pain, so that teaching their sympathy for the sufferings of their children. If it had been a single mother would have saved his pain because he had the power to do so and because he loved her with infinite love. That made his first public miracle at her request, and when he was dying He recalled that it was intended from the outset to be a mother to all. Catholics therefore believe that Mary will be so eager to help them, the problems of the soul and body, like any natural mother is willing to promote the welfare of their child.
