If Catholics say they are the only authority on the Bible, where does this leave God?

I thought it said somewhere in the Bible God gives adequate guidance. Maybe you need a mandate from the Vatican to confirm their suspicions that this fact means that God gives adequate guidance.

You're forgetting that the Catholic Church was, is and will always be guided by the Holy Spirit.
For that I write nothing but what you can read and understand, and I hope you fully understand because we have come to understand in part, that is its boast as they are also ours, on the day of (our) Lord Jesus. (2 Corinthians 13-14)
Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians was written about 57 CE All the Gospels, Acts and Revelation were written after Paul's letter and may or may not apply to this statement.
The verse of 2 Corinthians would only apply to documents that Paul and other apostles had written until then.
The Jews had centuries of interpretation of Scripture for priests and rabbis.
In Acts 8:27-39: Philip asks the Ethiopian reading the prophet Isaiah, "You know what you are reading?" The Ethiopian answered, "How can I, unless someone sends me?"
The original readers of the letters also knew Greek and all the slang and idioms used in his time. They knew (and duration) of the culture, politics and habits of everyday life in the first century AD
If I knew the original languages that were written in the Bible, that is, Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, and a bit of archeology and theology then perhaps the church would not help me.
The Catholic Church also could be developed on the wealth of almost 2000 years of constant study of the Bible by people more intelligent and spiritual in every generation. Why would I throw this treasure away?
Translations are also a problem. Something always gets lost in translation, no matter how good, new, or how beautiful she is a translation.
On a practical note, being able to keep an eye on the overall picture has remained the Catholic Church for almost 2,000 years together with currently over 1.1 billion believers living.
Non-Catholic Christian churches interpret the Bible any way they like to keep separated from each other to the point that now there are over 10,000 non-Catholic Christian denominations.
      With love in Christ.

  2. theophil says:

A group of believers in the Bible the Word always checked to see if what one teaches was confirmed by Scripture. This is annoying for some … people always putting scripture references, after what they say, as if …
But the point is, writing is the bearer of authority, not the pope or anyone else.
Still, it seems to always be a variant interpretation for all … well, good luck! Being a believer in Berea, and check the word!

<<If Catholics say that the only authority in bible, Where does this leave God?>>
Catholics do not say "they" are the authority in the Bible.
Catholics say the church is the authority on the Bible because God gave his Church the authority to interpret the Bible.
<<I thought it said somewhere in the Bible that God gives good guidance.>>
You do not understand well the meaning of the passages. The fact that there are 33,000 Christian denominations, the interpretation of the Bible should have been obvious.
<<Perhaps need a mandate from the Vatican to confirm their suspicions that this fact means that the good Lord gives guidance.>>
Maybe you need an authoritative interpreter of Scripture.

  4. God's servant says:

    I agree
your God, who gives the orders, not all believers in the church of any religion
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and ye need not that any man teach, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and it is true, and is no lie, and even as he has taught, will be in it.

  5. no fixed address says:

Gnosticism says the human and the divine can not fulfill, because man is evil. The Church is an extension of the Incarnation, and could not survive without the supervision of the Holy Spirit.
You really need to stop giving us much credit Catholics.
All you demonize the Catholic Church on the story is really about propaganda and Protestant revisionsim and serious historians do not believe that rhetoric reformst. We know we had some very evil sinners in the episcopate, but remained in the church where they belong sinners, and none of them, no matter how bad they were, has taught heresy.

  6. Boba Fett says:

Catholics think the Pope receives his guidance and authority of God …. unlikely as that may be given the bloody and wicked history of the Catholic Church and that Catholic theology is a constant evolution moving target.

  7. Benita I says:

    Read this:
Hebrews 1:1: God, that many times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
      2 = Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the universe;
Therefore, Christianity, even in the latter are authurity and in this dispensation were allowed a single reader of books and teach the whole country, from the apostles and not here. How do we know that he is truly sent by the authority?
John 7:17 = If anyone wants to do his will, know of the doctrine, whether of God or whether I speak of myself.

  8. A LIFELONG Student says:

To examine the doctrines of Catholicism
To examine the doctrines of the Bible
      Do you agree?
      An example
      Matthew 23:8-10 New Jerusalem Bible
8 'You, however, do not be called Rabbi, for one is your Master, and you are all brothers.
9 You should call anyone on earth your father, since only one Father, and he is in heaven.
10 Nor must ye called masters, for one is your Master, even Christ.

  9. Helen says:

No, all Catholics, do not say that. Jehovah's Witnesses also believe that their organization is the only true channel of communication between God and people. Human made claims are not necessarily true, no matter how much you believe in them
It is best to pay attention to what Jesus says in His Word

  10. The_Cricket misses her mom says:

The problem is that for thousands of years, there was only one Christian denomination. All other (as the Arians) were heretics. Then the separation of the Orthodox Church and Catholic. Five hundred years later, was founded on Protestantism. Almost five hundred years later, and there are over 30,000 Christian denominations, all with their own interpretations of Scripture. We can all have the same basic beliefs, but arguing over everything else.
All the 30,000 denominations of Christianity, think they are being guided by the Holy Spirit, however, contradict each other in minor (and even the top two, as the Trinity). God is not the author of confusion, right? So why is there so much confusion in Christianity? We argue about the Trinity, whether or not the Genesis is to be taken literally, after the tribulation or pre-tribulation, baptism, communion (literal or symbolic?) And so on. So who is taking us, exactly? Why is the Holy Spirit gives us conflicting interpretations?
Let's face it: most of the Christians were to be guided by the Holy Spirit long ago, and started relying more on our own private interpretations, while calling the Holy Spirit. And that's the danger of not allowing people dedicated to God 100% to interpret for us.
And by the way, I'm not Catholic.

  11. lyn1136 says:

"I send the Paraclete," Christ told his apostles in the
      upper room after the Resurrection.
The Paraclete writing inspired by the words of Christ.
The Catholic Church protects the words of Christ's death.
There is no doubt that his church was to have a structure
One to "feed the sheep" and the other (apostles) to continue
Pedro. From there they went to "preach to the world"
guided by the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, Third Person of the
      The Holy Trinity.
All things were given to his Church, Christ, the Father,
protected by the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Church speaks
and worship the Triune God and brings the message of the
creation, redemption and salvation to humanity.
Where leave to doubt the Holy Spirit?
What does "upon this rock I will build my Church"
      do not you understand?

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work he did, and rested the seventh day from all the work he had done.
Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because in it He rested from all His work which God created and made.
Catholics have added Christmas and Easter?
Revelation 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, if anyone adds to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Baptized Catholics Infants and Toddlers When the Word of God to repent?
Acts 2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  13. Shiroyas says:

Once again .. I do not think making such a claim. I think they believe that God is the absolute authority, and that Catholicism is the church on earth.
I do not really understand what such a play performed anyway.

  14. Ernie says:

God is still on his throne, and Jesus is the Head of his Church. At best, the Catholics are part of the Church, not the Church.
