Is there a difference between the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible?

I was raised Catholic, and 4 years ago actually saved and started having a personal relationship with Jesus. I found a Catholic Bible my mother's age and had more books in it. Is there a difference and how did that come about? Who had the authority to change it? Can someone explain this to me, my faith, because the exemptions do not understand. I feel some bitterness towards the Catholic religion and do not understand why. I would appreciate any feedback so that I can better understand this problem. Thanks for your time.

History lesson. :-) In Jesus' time on earth, there are two canons of the Jewish scriptures in use. One of them, now called the canon Jamnia, is what is currently used by the Protestants. The other, called the Septuigant, was translated into Greek in Alexandria. The Jews at the time of Christ had disputes about who was the true canon. This was not resolved until 90 AD, almost 60 years after the death of Christ. At this point, the authority of the Jews had in the "oracles of God (see Romans 3:2) had moved to the newly formed Christian church. While the Jews decided in this way the Old Testament, but also rejected the New Testament writings which were presented as possible additions to the canon of Scripture.
The New Testament canon was fixed in the councils of Hippo and Carthage (393 and 397 AD). Both boards Septuigant confirmed as canon of the Old Testament.
After this, there is still controversy among Christians about the fee (includes 1 Clement? Revelation is truly inspired?), But the charge was maintained until Martin Luther, when deuterocanonicals (literally meaning "second canon" apocrapha means "inspiration" ;) were withdrawn (Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, 1 and 2 Maccabees, and parts of Daniel and Esther). Luther also wanted to eliminate Hebrews, 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, Jude and Revelation.
I am thrilled that you have a personal relationship with Christ. It is vitally important for all Christians to live as Christ wants us to live. More Catholics need that relationship. Maybe God took you to discover that the Bible, and ask about it. "Some look at Catholicism, you may be surprised at what you find. Unfortunately, many Catholics are not taught the faith, and so, despite his intellectualism and beauty, to find God in other places. Good luck.

There are actually more books in the Catholic Bible. These were authorized by the popes of different generations do not know what, but his doctrines were one of the reasons for the Protestant church, was formed. Look at the letter that Martin Luther nailed to the door of the Catholic Church. The main reason for the letter was that the Bible was kept from the parishioners. This kept the body ignorant of God's word and keep the priests power over them. I know people who have known Jesus in the Catholic church, but it's hard to find among the different doctrines in the Catholic Church.
Study of the word itself is the best way to learn to walk with Christ.

There are some differences. The Catholic Bible has more books available, so-called Apocrypha, and the 10 commandments are a little different, I think. The making idols.

  4. rykkardo says:

Your faith should not suffer from these, you must understand that the Bible has been altered by almost 2000 years. now, and there is no complete and unaltered version in the world today. Rolls have been lost, burned and degraded. What matters is what you believe, and if you have found this personal relationship with Jesus, as you mentioned. She embraces him, be happy, you deserve it, and embrace his message of love and peace. Leave disputes who has the best Bible for others who do not share their blessings.

The Catholic Bible has the same 27 books of the New Testament, but has 7 other Old Testament books that were removed from the Protestant Bible at the time of the Reformation: Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom, Maccabees 1 and 2 Maccabees. The books of Daniel and Esther are also additionalwriting in the Catholic version.
The Catholic version of the Bible was adopted by various councils Fromas pontifical representations in the 4th century and was finally accepted as infallible by the Ecumenical Coucil of Trent in the 16th century.
I was raised Catholic but left the church at the age of 16 and wandered until he accepted Christ for myself at the age of 39. While Catholicism was, without doubt, the first expansion and growth of the original church was damaged during almost 1000 years for Goverments that political leaders put in power instead of godly men. Many of these men abused this power and uses the papal office for their own benefit and to ingratiate himself with others by granting pardons in exchange for money or political promises. Due to changes in the Popes, including some who had good intentions, the Catholic Church today resembles the original 1st century church very soon. And so, has damaged its own credibility, to the point that Christians should quesiton if Catholicism is indeed a Christian denomination or if it became a quasi-Christian cult at some point.
That said, let me explain that I am not trying to get rid of their faith more - the fact that you have these questions is a good sign. There is no reason to be bitter against the Catholic Church. It's just what it is, and Ove the past 100 years have seen major reform within Catholicism, to the point that I see the possibility of a return to its roots 1 and reestabish century itself. If you care to discuss this further, please email me.

understanding. Protestantism is just an extension of Catholicism. both are a bunch of lies. I thought you should know. use your brain and not the Bible. of the true Word of God. his brain. The Protestants will say things that Catholics edited and act like they are the first Christians. thats just mental. If Catholicism has flaws then what makes Protestantism better? Luther Martin was screwed when an extension to Catholicism. both are Christian but no matter how many people say otherwise.

  8. JohnsonW says:

Of course - but no. :)
First, as mentioned above, the Catholic Bible has books that Protestants do not consider canonical, inspired.
Secondly, the Roman Catholic Church changed the Ten Commandments, the removal of a part, and then split in two to have a final count of ten.
But there is a lot bigger but more subtle and therefore dangerous, the difference that, particularly in the New Testament (hereafter "NT") of text.
You may or may not be aware, but the NT was written in Greek. There are two main lines of the manuscripts that have survived throughout history - the eastern and western lines. It has been much discussion about what is more correct, but it is interesting that the Catholic Church chose the west and Protestant reformers chose the eastern line. They obviously think their line is the most accurate.
What is most interesting is that soon translations from Greek into other languages, support for the accuracy of the east line along the western line.
      Now here comes the good!
Most Protestant Bibles now uses on the basis of the western line * *! And not the east line, as did the Protestant reformers.
Why? Because there have been some discovery of the manuscripts of the western line are "higher" than those of the eastern line. But what experts do not consider is that the first translations, as I wrote above, from the Greek into other languages * Support * Eastern line, therefore, there * is strong evidence that the eastern line is closer to the original manuscripts of the western line.
As I wrote earlier, most Protestants, however, now consider supperior Bibles translated from the western line of the eastern line.
So what is the difference between the two lines?
Well, there are many, and I will not list here. However, suffice it to say that the difference is a bias towards Roman Catholicism Theological and everything that includes, as opposed to Protestantism.
So, now the difference is very blurry. In other words, except for the different books included in the Catholic version and the different Ten Commandments, no longer much difference between the "Catholic" and the Bible "Protestant" Bible because both are based on the same manuscripts .
If you want to be a "true" Protestant, to consider the use of the east line of the manuscripts, as did the Protestant reformers.

the only difference I can see is the Catholic Bible likes to edit what is the truth and the Protestant Bible is the same as all religions, and to do what they think is the real Bible

  10. judy_r8 says:

All versions of the Bible has been edited for repetition, and content. The Bible is probably found a version earlier than the King James Version. It contains versions of Scripture that Protestants do not like. read the book and see what is missing in the newer versions. You might be surprised. And to feel resentment toward the Catholic Church, I can only assume that you join a group born again. congregations tend to say no truth over all other sects, and the kind of temporarily brainwashed their new converts.

  11. Bob says:

As a rule, the Protestant Bible contains only 66 books, while the Bibles, holy, catholic contains 73 books, 46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. When the Protestant Holy Bible to the list of seven other books, they are listed under the title "Apocrypha," which means "hidden books.
These are the books of Tobit, Judith, First and Second Maccabees, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus (sometimes called Ecclesiasticus) and Baruch (plus additions to Esther and Daniel).
Until the sixteenth century, there was little disagreement about the books of the Bible. By that time, Martin Luther (founder of the Lutheran Church) and other Protestant churches rejected the established list of books that were found in the Catholic Bible.
Following that dissent, in 1546, the Council of Trent defined the list of Alexandria (not the list of Palestine [Israel]) of the books as the official list of the books of the Old Testament. At the same time, reaffirmed the traditional list of the books of the New Testament. As such, today's books that are contained in the Old Testament and New Testament, the books are exactly the same that were defined in a series of councils of the Catholic Church, ie in Rome in 382 AD in Hippo in 393 AD and Carthage in 397 AD
Since the early Church, which has been attacked by the introduction of false teachings, or heresies.
The Bible warned us this would happen. Paul told Timothy, "For the time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions and will turn away from listening to the truth and fables" (2 Tim . 4:3-4).
2 Maccabees is notable for several points of doctrine arising from advanced Pharisaic Judaism. Many have suggested that this is the main reason for their rejection, and after that, the rejection of all Deuterocanonical books by reformers like Martin Luther, who said: "I'm so great enemy of the Second Book of Maccabees, and Esther , that I wish it had not come to us at all. "
Doctrinal issues that arise in 2 Maccabees include:
Prayer for the dead to free them from sin
Offerings of atonement for the dead
      Merits of the martyrs
      Intercession of saints
      Resurrection of the Dead
In particular, long descriptions of the martyrdom of Eleazar and a mother with her seven sons (2 Macc 6:18-7:42) captured the imagination of medieval Christians. Several churches are dedicated to the "martyrs Maccabee" and are among the few pre-Christian figures to appear on the Catholic calendar of holy days. The book is considered the first model of the medieval stories of the martyrs. It is interesting that Hebrews 11:35 is a reference to this event possible.

Yes there is. There are books not in the Catholic Bible in the Protestant Bible. Protestant Bibles usually have an agreement as to what he actually said originals, although they may disagree on what is meant and how they practice their understanding. Catholic Bibles seem to be translated in accordance with their doctrines and beliefs.

  18. cupid's angel says:

and the basic difference between Catholic and Protestant faith is that Catholics not only believe in Jesus but also his devotion to Mary, the mother, on the otherhand Protestants only believe in Jesus and do not accept Mary as an important part of religiosity and not worship.
about the Bible it says that there are hundreds of different books written by different saints over a period of time .. all their own way.
but we must understand that during the Middle medievial the church was not only a center of religion .. but the most powerful in the country .. even more powerful than the king!
and like everyone says, power corrupts! the church wanted a monopoly on the people and therefore the design of the Bible to be unquestionable … to choose not only raise doubts bookswhich public.
U bible must be one of the original copies of the first Bibles first is why have so many different books.
we must not allow ur faith to be challenged by the greed of a few men in recent years …
only believe in the Trinity and God's ability to give .. peace and ur faith u will be as strong as ever.
