    + Saints +
Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, Methodist and Church.
The Communion of Saints is the belief that all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When one dies and goes to heaven, do not go to this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my late grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
As part of this family, you can ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or you can ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to the saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
And the prayer of the saints is optional and not required.http: / / http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1s
      Graven Images + +
Do you have pictures of their loved ones? Have you ever looked at the picture of a person while on the phone with them?
Statues and pictures of the people we love are not idols.
Statues and paintings of Jesus and the saints are like pictures of the people we love and respect.
The King James Version of the Bible, in Exodus 20:4: "Thou shalt not make you any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven, or is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under earth "
Why not send the Jews to carve? Images recorded were the standard method of pagan worship. Representations were false gods.
      This command is very clear.
However, God commanded the Jews in Exodus 25:18 and 1 Chronicles 28:18-19, "And thou shalt make two cherubim of gold, as you will make them work"
And in 1 Kings chapter 7 Solomon bulls and other images of precious metals.
It seems obvious that the Jews did not worship the cherubim and Solomon did not worship the bulls he had done. These images did not violate God's command. Therefore, not an image made for worship is acceptable.
In Numbers 21:8-9, "And the Lord said to Moses:" Make a saraph and mounted on a stick, and if someone has been bitten looks, he will recover. "Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted on a pole and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a snake, looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered.
And in John 3:14-15, Jesus says in the correlation, "And as Moses lifted up the image of [the snake] in the desert, so the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in he may have eternal life. "
How can a statue of our Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross is considered an idol to a false god? A crucifix is the message of the Gospel without words, everyone looked up, a visual reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus, not unlike a painting, a play or a movie.
Catholics do not worship statues but the almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
      With love in Christ.
      + With love in Christ.

Catholics do not worship idols. We do not believe that the Holy Vrgin or any of the Saints at the same level as we do Christ. However, what most people do not understand is our intercession for. Yes, we believe we can speak directly to God on behalf of his son and he will hear us. But I ask, have you ever asked someone to pray for you or a loved one? This is known as asking someone to intercede with God for you or your loved one. Catholics do when they "pray" (notice the quotes, very important) to the Blessed Virgin Mary or one of the saints.
Another big problem that people is how we, as Catholics, to increase the Blessed Virgin Mary to (presumably including his son). Actually they do but we recognize the crucial role was the mother of our Savior, and as the Queen of Heaven as described in the Bible. Its purpose is to honor and give respect and dignity of the position entails.
Hope this helps. If you need more information let me know.

  3. Mr. Christopher says:

It is what people see, touch and hold that gives the idea of "idolatry." It is not idol worship but it sure seems.

  4. civilman says:

Catholic Christians do not worship Mary or any of the other saints. Only worship God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We honor Mary and recognize that she was a very special person "full of grace."
We as Catholic Christians, speak with the dead in Christ and ask him to intercede on our behalf (this would include Mary). This is no different from any Christian believers seeking to offer the prayer of intercession on their behalf.

  5. solarius says:

Mary is honored and revered but not worshiped. She has a unique place as the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, and was specially chosen by God for this function. Because of that, they deserve our respect. The statues and sacred art are nothing more than worship aids, and certainly not worshiped in his own right.

  6. Shirley T says:

The original meaning of the word prayer was not worship, but to ask or request. We are asking Mary and the saints to pray for us as it would ask a person in this life to pray for you.
If a person is actually the worship of the statue then they are guilty of idolatry. However, the statue is a reminder of the saint. It has no value in itself.
After all, God called the Ark of the Covenant have cherubs carved into it.

  7. Ma Belle Famille says:

I grew up Catholic and attended Catholic school my wholelife. Catholics pray to others besides Jesus - Mary, Joseph, thousands of saints … but only worship God.

  8. astral_l says:

I am not a Catholic, but in my quest to find out if my church was true that reading a lot about them. Mary is the Mother of Jesus. As the mother of Jesus has a special relationship with him. pray to her because they believe she is better able to talk to Jesus than they are. It works the same with all the saints that Catholics have. I have never known time to call Catholics Idol or not.

  9. milauwio says:

We, as Catholics, worship and prayer to Mary as the mother of Jesus, Son of God. She gave birth to him and let him be born as a human being. He was born for it for him colud experience what humans do and directly teach us and inspire us with his words, that ultimately proved much stronger than when mediated through prophets between him and the people, who also have spread their word. For idols i think you are talking about the saints? These are examples of a special, very, very moral people who dedicated their lives, one way or another to fight against sin and help their peers. There are plenty of people from other religions as well. It can be adored in the way we worship ours, but also praises. I bet that people Wold Wold raise Mathatma Hindu Gandhi the saint, when Wold that exist in their faith (for all I know, maybe it does). It's a way we're thanking them for all they fought.

  10. GEM says:

We do not worship Mary, but rather in our prayer we ask her to pray for us. Just as you would ask a friend to pray for you. It is a prayer of intercession. We honor her as the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
      Peace be with you.

  11. Bright Shadow says:

They taught me that the statues and religious images are similar in purpose to the photos of our loved ones so that we can put on the wall in the house. It's just an exclamation mark. There is no intrinsic value assigned to the statues and pictures, which only facilitate a closer relationship with God, for some people, perhaps serving as a visual reminder. No one prays to a real image or a piece of religious art. The paintings and statues are just the image of God that you follow your boyfriend is her boyfriend.

  12. Rev R says:

If you do not think people "worship" idols, then tell your friend who wants to take one of the statues to "pray to" break it and throw it away, but you buy a new one.
If not then worshiped there should be no problem.

  13. GodIsLov says:

Let me make clear that we (Catholics) do not consider that the Blessed Virgin Mary as the mediator between God and man, instead she is our intercessor between Jesus and God ..

  14. I Wanna Know says:

is not that Catholics worship idols (false gods) who believe in the true God. what makes them bad is that I pray to God through his son Jesus who is our mediator. pray to Mary that Scripture does not teach

  15. Terry says:

I suppose that people of the Church who ask you this question has nothing, but the chairs in his Church - as the Quakers. Even a cross can be cast as an idol.
Mary is one of my favorite real or fictional, the mother of a Jewish God or Maiden, his story is a heck of a read. The pressures surrounding the things that happened in his family were far beyond what any woman will be asked to hold in this day and age.
Worship, no, I'm a pagan. However, even in this mundane world of ours, if you really want to communicate with a Jewish child, you go to your Mother. Therefore, if I ever needed Jesus, I would look to Mary - and if there is a statue that would help me concentrate on reaching it would be very welcome.
I do not think your God will be angry, because he is a Jewish father and know the drill.

  16. Kathryn S says:

I'm Catholic and I'm not terribly religious but I do not worship idols, is strictly prohibited in the 10 Commandments. We do not "worship" Mary and of itself. We thought it was a great woman who was the virgin mother of Jesus and pray to it, but do not worship as a god or anything.
Moreover, the idols are images and pictures or statues. There are, like, the false gods, which I think is what he means when he says Maria.
Then again, everyone has their own opinions and, theoretically, could argue that the Eucharist is an idol or something. I hope this does not confuse more.

  17. Owenrich says:

This human belief, have the same question, but I regret to say that the Preist who never ask me an answer just say it's a symblom of God. So just believe in what the Bible teaches and nonhuman. There is one thing still quriy me is that its mass does not use the Bible, but still a book known as mass book that the schedule for the Pope and the whole world, just follow the service at his church, so do not There are guidelines in the spirit of God only human again. More information wisely. I once there is a printing error I found in his book of masses, while writing is not the book chapter and verse in the Bible that state, so we're going to blindly follow a human being? Be careful. There are good things to learn from the church, strictly following the Bible, not human.

    us-not only worship God …

  19. ellasoy says:

Catholics say they do not consider this cult, as compared to having a photo of a close friend or family member who died and take a photo with you.
I do not see it. The Bible clearly says not to worship other gods, etc. Everything you see in a Catholic church's statues and people praying to them / to them.

  20. Andrew B says:

Just as you can get a picture of a loved one in the wall, which occasionally looks and smiles, we statues.
We pray to God, through Mary and the Saints. We worship God and not from the Holy and not Mary.
However, Mary has a special place in the heart of our Lord and Catholics everywhere. God gave this couple the option of saying no. She said yes, risking his life, and knowing that she would endure the emotional pain, she said yes. To thank once in a while, not too much to ask.
The crucifix, is there to remind us of the suffering of our Lord passed by us and for our sins. I think many people see it as a cross, and no man in it.

  21. missy says:

practically my whole family is Catholic. From what I see, the Catholic Church has twisted Scripture and made many a relationship in a religion. Catholics say they are praying that Mary intercede for them to talk to Jesus, who then will speak to God for them. All this is unnecessary because everyone can have access to God through Jesus. Jesus became man so that he could relate to us and we with it. He came to us, why not speak directly with him? What can Mary for us here on earth. She was as normal a human being like you and me. She has no divinity. It was a ship utilization and God honored his faithfulness by allowing you to take your child. After that, just returned to a normal human being. Praying to nothing but God, be a saint, a crucifix, or a bucket of golf balls is idolatry.
the use of beads could also be considered idolatry … but thats a different story
A cross on the wall with a bloody Jesus hanging from it would be considered a reminder to Catholics. But what do we remember? Yes, he sacrificed his life for us and we should be grateful, but the real story is the resurrection. A simple cross can do the trick

  22. Angel Eyes says:

When Catholics pray to Mary and the saints in heaven who are not apart from Christ, whom he recognized as the only mediator between God and man. Go to Christ through Mary and other saints. They are asking Mary and other saints to intercede for them before the throne of Christ in Heaven. “ For the continual prayer of a righteous man to serve as nothing much.''(James 5:16). How much use is the constant prayer of the sinless Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ! St. Paul urged Christians to intercede for him: “ Brothers, pray for us.'' (2 Thess. 3:1). And again: “ I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of the Holy Spirit to help me in their prayers to God for me …'' (Romans 15:30). Christ, in particular, must approve of our going to Him through Mary, His Blessed Mother, because he chose to come to us through it. And at Cana, performed his first miracle after a word from her mother. (John 2:2-11).

People have a lot to the debate on religions.?? Why do it?
Others cannot just single out the Catholics …
      Do not know why ..
but you .. Are you Catholic? just tell em mind their own business ..

  24. Sarge says:

I grew up Catholic and attended 12 years of Catholic school. Now I'm agnostic, as I have come to believe that all religion is a creation of man. Catholicism, for me, not even be considered a Christian religion, for that is being bastardized into something else. Just too many events that have contributed to my conclusion.
