Why does'nt The Catholic Church itself off its wealth and give to the poor of this world?

Where does it say that Jesus said to make as much money as possible and live in luxury like the Vatican, for example.

  2. Bob from Mars says:

All churches exist to extract $ deceived and in the hands of crooks running the church.
Why are you putting only Catholics?
Stop giving $ to these charlatans and join the 21st century!

  3. la buena bruja says:

Read the book of the Shoes of the Fisherman. It is a fictionalized account of a Pope who wanted to give the wealth of the Catholic Church to the poor. Look what I wanted to do with it! Personally, I think it's a great idea!

I guess it's easier for some people to throw stones at others than to actually do something about it. Blaming others is the easiest way. Why not do something / to the poor if you feel that strength? Instead of just hitting Catholics. Of course I'm not Catholic, but I am a Christian.

I believe that churches are businesses.

I'll show you why and the challenge to be better than those who accuse.
Go to christforasia.com and feed a hungry homeless orphan. Let's dig into the bag of money. Is it easy to give money to the poor even though Jesus commanded.
Better yet start a cause to raise money or clothing to send to these children.
In other words, put their money where their mouth is.

I said this before, but well. not-are-not-real-people-Catholic left. I wonder if it ever was none. nobody seemed to understand the teachings of Jesus. ever. they can call themsleves Christians, but are not. just go to church and smile and pray, but never occur to them to follow the teachings of Jesus. are as doomed to failure.

  8. vash sunglasses RC JMJ says:

People do not "live in luxury at the Vatican. They live the simple life, surrounded by the art treasures of the past. It would be criminal to sell these treasures of art! Why not ask the Louvre to sell the Mona Lisa and give the money to charity? Why not ask the U.S. governor of selling the original copies of the Constitution and give the money to charity? Why not sell the team and give the money to charity?

  9. Geezah says:

Uh … Did you know that Catholicism is a dominant religion in many parts of the world 3, mainly because the Catholic missionaries?
Granted I am no fan of Catholicism, but not exactly equal to the medieval period.

I am not Catholic, but I know the love of money is the root of all evil. I would have a long hard look at myself before I start to question how to deal with others what God has given them. All we have to take account of a day.

  11. Elaine81 says:

I am not Catholic, but in all fairness they give to the needy and the poor, widows and others.
The people tithe 10% of their income and give a gift of love for other things. They have a large following, not to rake in a lot of money.

  12. praisedi says:

Your question reminds me of a certain Bible passage:
When I was in Bethany at the table in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came with a bottle of perfumed oil, genuine nard expensive. She broke the alabaster jar and poured it on his head.
There were some who were indignant. "Why has there been this waste of perfumed oil? It could have been sold for a wage of over three hundred days and the money given to the poor. " They were furious with her.
Jesus said, "Leave it. Why create problems for her? She has done a good thing for me. The poor will always have with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them, but not always me. She has done what he could. She has anticipated anointing my body for burial. Truly, I say, everywhere proclaiming the Gospel to the whole world what he has done will be told in memory of her. (Mark 14: 3-9)
Most of the "wealth" that is to talk of priceless art, all to glorify God. This art is on public display for all to enjoy.
Also, before the advent of widespread literacy, the art of the church helped people remember the history and teachings of the Bible.
Logically one can question the decision of hundreds of years before spending the money on putting in these works, but no further place in the Vatican. Another said, "would you have the Louve sell the Mona Lisa?"
As it stands now, the Catholic Church is the largest provider of Human Services in the world. It was also the sole provider of human services in Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire until the beginning of the modern era.

Good idea. I can send a check.

  14. Daver says:

The Church has a "wealth" that is generous charitable donations made by the Catholics on a weekly basis. Where is the justice in the church and left such generous donations?
Moreover, the Church has been the recipient of many fine - and price - gifts. These were given to the Church in the understanding of the Church maintain these devices. The Church shares these gifts to the world …. Ever been in the Vatican Museum?
Do not overlook the fact that Catholic Charities helps people in need than any other single charity in the world.
However, if you feel that the Church needs a lesson, perhaps by example, give away all your valuable possessions, as you think the Church should give up the possessions and donate the money to the poor and needy.
Doing so, and you gain credibility. Do not, and runs the risk of flirting with hypocrisy.
PLUS: The Church, like any other organization, needs money to function. Architects must be paid to design churches, contractors are paid to build them. The parish needs to finance the maintenance of the building, pay for repairs, payment of utility bills, etc.
All that, and more money is needed. Much of it comes from voluntary donations from the Catholic faithful. There is nothing wrong with that.

  15. Righteous Indignation says:

To understand this, you first have to understand that Christians did not start the church.
Once you have that … the rest makes perfect sense.

Because they are hypocrites and thieves. The Vatican must be transferred to the city of Rome and became one of their districts. But there are many beautiful treasures worth saving as the Sistine Chapel.

  19. fredsmit says:

Jesus said that the Vatican not to build, either.
But to answer your question, if the Catholic Church did this, would be too fragmented. Control is the most important thing for a religion, and money usually equals control.

  20. Karenita EWTN ((Allecat)) says:

The Catholic Church _does_ give to the poor. Of course it can not be as publicized as some churches, but still care about the poor of this world. We do all our neighbors!

  22. Quailman says:

from what I heard, the Catholic Church gives a lot of money to help poverty and disease.
the Vatican was built so that, as a thousand years ago? Luxury all arrived at a different time (not like they are building a new one)

It is not only cathloics most churches do not do much for the poor.

  25. Midge says:

That's basically the same thing, "said Judas when Mary broke the container of expensive perfume and anointed the feet of Jesus. So we know about Judas, right? The poor will always have with us and most of the poor are poor because of his own work.
The Catholic Church is the largest charity in the world and gives you more money than anyone else. Why not ask these questions of Mormons who are much richer than the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has a lot of things we do, but it is the history of the Church and everyone is entitled to his story.

  26. Lizbiz says:

Because then you would not owners of some of the world's most expensive real estate. I've never read anywhere that Jesus wore robes of silk and gold brocade. Actually, do not preach the distance delivery of material goods lest you become empowered by the wealth? Well, maybe we are reading the Bible wrong?

  27. cowboy_c says:

Because the Catholic Church has never tried to follow the teachings of the Bible's feet. Long ago replaced the Bible and its authority with the Pope's authority. Therefore, the actual teachings of Jesus have little bearing on the Catholic Church. Note that you still have to Him on the cross. If the story had ended there would have been nothing. But not there yet. Jesus is not in the cross rose from the dead. Because He is God!

  28. techtwos says:

I've asked this of my life. I was baptized and raised Catholic and I always wondered why has not used some of his money to help the poor of the parish. I stopped attending Catholic services, because they just do not understand all that wealth and so many Catholics hunger.
Now attend a church that takes care of the parish church. They have programs for youth and help homeless people obtain housing and employment. That is my idea of what a church is all.

  29. Jack says:

When Christ returns, many were surprised, because He promised that the child shall be exalted and the first shall be last.
